I know just how you fell. What people don't think about, is anime has always been around and it's now just for little kids. They think that just because we all watched Speed Racer when we where little and out little brothers and sisters watch Pokemon, they think that is all that is out there. What about all of those hard core animes like Cowboy Bebop and White Cross? I bet if they all just sat down and watched one episode with Ed on it, they would be hooked to. Also, what about all of those movies out there that are anime? Like World Strongest and Blood? They insult our anime then they insult out intelagence by coming out with American trash like the Power Puff Girls, Sameri Jack, and Totally Spys. It is enough to drive a girl crazy!!!!! By the way, Sailor Moon is a great show! Luna and Wrine are so cute!

LONG THE THE GREATEST OF ALL SEYAINS, TRUNKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think youll find ppls english isnt that good, but understanding what they mean i think they meant to say ''the current fad is anime'' NOT 'anime is a fad' a whole world of difference....

:nono: Transtic Nerve i know what a fad is. personally i started watching anime when i was six, and i got it from my older cousin. he grew up watching it and he was born in 1975. so i think i know what im talking about. just because you didn't here about it prior to the '90s doesn't mean im wrong.
also i'd like to ask you this. wasn't Star Wars just a fad? thats how it got started. now there are fourty year old men still talking about Darth Vadar. (This was happening YEARS after the final Star Wars and YEARS brfore the Star War Episodes.
So personally i think that you dont have to steep so low as to call me immature and stuff because im not here to fight. its just that i dont think its right that people talk and dont know all the information. :grumble:
I hightly doubt you know everything there is about anime. And even so, I don't care about your supposed cousin... this debate refers to how anime has been recieved in American culture. Just because you've watched anime, doesn't mean crap. I've watched anime too, and I think differently than you. What's your point? Watching anime has nothing to do with how the American public view it NOW. I don't watch anime anymore... it was a fad to me... a fad refers to a majority of people. YOU are not a majority just like I am not a majority. So our personal expereinces do not contribute to the overall outcome of this debate. The Majority of people watch anime right now because it is popular, and when it looses it's fame, the MAJORITY will stop watching, and thus, anime will become a fad. Kinda like Vanilla Ice.

Star Wars was a fad, sure, bu tnot anymore... you see, the love for Star Wars has NEVER faded. Unlike, lets use Pogs for example. Pogs were HUGE back in the day, but whens the last time you saw anyone playing pogs? Exactly my point, Star Wars has exceeded being a fad and now is the most popular thing in the world basically. I'm not saying anime will always be a fad, but it is as of now. If it stays popular, than so be it, it's not a fad. But in 5 years if you don't see DragonBall or whatever on TV or as popular as it is now, then it will be a fad. A fad thats past and gone.

And I was simply calling you immature because you WERE immature in your responce. You were whining like some 4th grader. Thats immature.

hey, anime isnt a fad now or ever.
it has to be popular to be a fad; or you have to be into it just for a band wagon of some sort.
anime is still a small thing and it aways will be.
adult of my age and older rarely use their imagination, none the less, watch cartoons.
if its a fad, thats only to you.
also.... no matter who you are, you dont know everything about anime.
oh yea, i think that if you replaced the word fad with something meaning a cult like following, you would find lots of this stuff to be not only true, but unnessicary.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, personally, if anime goes out of style, I will still be watching, because I love it as if it weren't a fad. I believe it is a fad at a moment, and many people will stop watching, except for true anime fans. Anyway, I am nearly to the point of killing some DBZ fans, who think it is the best anime ever. You know who I'm talking about, people who watch the CN DBZ. The hardcore fans who have no idea about anime >describing own cousin< I think when CN finally cuts it off many people who are "otakus" (10 year old CN watchers) will no longer watch anime. I am not an otaku, but I love anime.

Ok, sorry, I'm babbling. I will leave you all in peace now

I agree. All the little DBZ fans, especially all the kids in elementary school who own a million DBZ shirts (some of which have never even watched dbz:therock: ), will never watch anime again once DBZ goes off the air, most likely. I certainly can't imagine most of them watching any other anime. Whereas, the select few who say, "wow. I like this art....." May go to the store, purchase some anime that's not on the air, and that my friends is how people can be hooked on anime. Off-air anime is the only thing, I believe, maybe not you...., that creates real anime fans. Because if it's not on the air, or if it's manga, you don't rely on a network for it, so there's no popularity behind it. I mean, there's no popularity in Fushigi Yuugi where I live, none at all, but I still love it. And I don't rely on a network for it.......So instead of saying anime in general is a fad, I think for cetain ages, and for certain shows, those would be fads. I think DBZ is a fad, but probably not anime as a whole.

New Kids on the Block were a fad. They were popular one moment and then completely gone the next.

Anime, like everything else, experiences a rise and fall in popularity from year to year. However, the fact that anime has been received (on some level) by American society through the years, indicates that by definition, it isn't a fad.

If it were a fad, it would be here...and then gone the next moment.

Pretty simple stuff, really.

5 years ago, anime shown on TV...none existant
1 year ago, sci-fi now showing sat' night anime everyweek, pokemon toys everywhere, range of games, DBZ tops and popularity soaring, cartoon network showing loads, fox kids jump on band wagon, shown on loads of channels etc...
and as i said before it is now dying down there for it is/was a fad, it was the latest craze.

fad -something that becomes really popular really fast and then dies down
-the latest craze
- etc, etc...

half of u seem to think fad means some kind of cult following...

im gonna go get some sleep.

I know I'm a little late posting on this topic, but oh well....I don't really have that problem. Sure I get people who are all like "You're 17 and you still watch cartoons?" But I just laugh it off. The people who know me know how I am. And I have been sucessful in getting many of my friends into anime, so I'm always happy about that. I've only dated one guy who liked anime almost as much as I did, but things didn't work out because he was such a loser....I think you should date people who don't necessarily get into it as much as you and are willing to sit down and watch it with you, that way you'll have something to share with them. And I have no clue where in the world that comment came from. But yeah, I'm accepted for being an anime fan, people know me as that, and they wouldn't have me any other way. I also love it when people tell me I look like an anime girl...it makes me feel so special! ^_^

At my school people really don't care except for those very few who believe they are the rulers of the universe and everyone should bow down to them

In my area I have a friend thats actually going to start a club (hopefully) thats just anime of all kinds

It was at lunch, but I was still funny and one of my friends sead " your a digifreak" and so I answered "yeah, so whats your point?!"

I got into animé when I started watching Pokemon- that was a fad, I don't like it anymore. Now I'm about the only person I know that watches anime 'cause everyone thinks it's only for kids(though it's mostly on kids channels that they show the dismal amount that I get to watch).
Sometimes I'll be doodling some kind of anime character in school and everyone's just like 'Ooh, that's pokemon isn't it?!'.
I wish that people would keep more of an open mind about anime shows and people that watch them, and not immediately put us in the 'freak' category.

:D Well it seems its time for me to give everyone some positive Reinforcement, don't worry about what other people think and certainly anime fans are not freaks!;) Some of the "coolest" people I know are into anime! So just ignore those close minded people who call you freak when you watch anime! Their just being ignorant!;)

Man in San Antonio it is not like that at all. Well probably when I get older it'll be like that, but in middle school, as long is you don't walk around listing facts about everything no-one cares.

You're one of the lucky ones then. Nearly everyone in my school that likes anime is a bit, well, weird.
I'll try to take your advice- the ones who think anime is crap are the ones who are missing out anyway:p

well i have to admit that all of the coolest people that i know are into anime. yet the problem is that even some wacked out teacher hates anime fans. im in class and the teacher gives my graphic design class a lecture on why anime is for little kids and how it is unhealthy for us older kids to watch it. i think this whole situation is ridiculous

Ironically that was the same way most of my teachers thought in my high school, but after year book time came around and teachers actually entered the room, they started to gain an apperciatation for anime! Anyway not every person will accept anime, just keep your head up high for being one since they are missing out and not you!;) :D

Does that include me?:p :D But seriously don't pay attention to those people who say anime is freakish cartoons. They obviously never saw real anime and just brush it off as a cartoon. A club is a great idea to get more anime fans come out of hiding and others to get addicted.:babble: Its certianly worked on Hunter and my High School. Besides, anime is FAR better than any movie or TV show that I've seen so let them talk, they're just missing out on some great stuff.:smirk: And Hunter were there really some teachers who didn't like anime? I never noticed. (Guess was too busy watching the great anime we had and taking part of the video game tournaments!) Ah those were the days....

heh i'm going to have to agree with you guys on this. i mean, people dont make fun of me because i watch anime, but when the occasionaly snobby girls says "oh your just like those boys, watching that stupid dragonball show." i just retort by saying and looking at their Winney the Pooh stuff "oh yeah? at least i'm not like those little 4 year olds that watch Winney the Pooh" and they start yelling at me saying how cute he is and.. GAH... :flaming: i hate winney the pooh. i hope he gets killed by those bees!:flaming:

Well, around here, I get the occasional, " What in the world is Gun- Dam?" People aks me why I still watch cartoons sometimes. I usually tell them something like,a cartoon is different from anime. Some people think its stupid but they never really tease, they just ask why I like it. There is one other guy at my school that is into anime. Other then that, thats pretty much it. I have gotten some of my freinds interested but they really do not take it seriously.

Its kinda funny too, for some reason Sponge bob is real big at my school, (High School I might add) Why, i dunno. But even at that, I still get the why do you watch kiddy shows. This coming from a person who has a Sponge Bob t-shirt on. I only have two Anime shirts but I wear them and dont care. Seriously though, I think i should be concerned about the intelligence of my class mates.

I dont think Anime is something that will go mainstreem in the US. Wether it does or not, I dont care. I am still going to be a hardcore Anime fans who goes broke buying anime collectibles.
