:D *stands up* I'm proud to be an original, and certainly no person on this board is as dedicated to being an anime fan.

Interesting point brought up in this topic, I've never been one to flaunt my anime fandom in public, so I'm rather proud of those who can go out in public wearing an anime shirt.

Over the years I've watched anime, I've always tried to seperate it from my personal life. I don't really like to flaunt it and even if you saw me out in the street chances are you wouldn't know I am one. I tend to only flaunt my anime fandomness when people come over *cough* or on the net for some odd reason.

Generally I have to keep quiet about my liking for anime. My friend says that the only good anime is Akira, and he hasn't seen any others at all. I bet he'd wet himself if he saw NGE. But anyway, anime here's very sparse. You can't rent it, and there are all of about four DVDs on sale in the shops- Ninja Scroll, Akira, Generator Gawl and Ghost in the Shell. I couldn't talk to anyone about it and I started to get really frustrated because my friends wouldn't respect my liking for it, despite the fact that I have to put up with them waxing lyrical about the flipping Powerpuff Girls. I was *this* close to yelling at them because they'd shown no respect to my tatses for the umpteenth time. They're just ignorant to anime. And other people's tastes. Either that or I can't take a very bad joke. But that's why I came here. And now I don't have a problem. I don't have to see the PPG movie with them, so I won't. And they don't have to come over to watch Mononoke. So it's okay. But it's still frustrating that the shops ignore it.

LOL, actually no I don't have a notebook to keep table of them, I actually have the list stored on a database made on Microsoft Access everytime I get a new anime movie or series, I add it into the database, its an interesting way of keeping track of my stuff.

Though Cleaning up is a real pain in the ***!

As for how I started, that was easy, back when I was 3 years old I was exposed to the "disease". I started my collection at the age of 5 thanks to my parents and dad buying me various series on tape. I'm not very proud of my background but I come from a rather wealthy one. So buying stuff wasn't an issue nor was the importing fees. Eventually as I got to high school I had around 1,500 tapes, but thanks to new sources such as Chinatown coming into play the collection grew to 3,000. From there, I went to conventions and took various trips to Japan getting various connections to anime companies and retailers that give me a 90% discount or free anime.

And that my friends is how the collection came to be.

yeah, but hw often do you get to watch one? it's like, 1 out of 4,965 times of anime watching sessions. O.o

since three is a lot, but did you speak japanese when you were 5? cause there most likely wasnt a lot of anime around when you were three....16 or 17 years ago.

anyway, that still is a hell of a lot of anime... I wihsh i could say i have 1/100 of that....but i dont. i have 3 anime on VHS, 9 on DVD, i've seen 2 in theaters, and altogether ive seen a lot, though i dont know how many. about 50 or 60 anime. Im getting another DVD today... Im very broke..

Manga on the other hand...I've pretty much read every manga in borders. ive read a bit of manga online that was translated with scans(i cant stand without scans). I've also read manga ive found in other places. i love manga. its so much cheaper than DVDs.

wow. that's still a lot of anime to see in a life time.... especially when you're about 19 or 20(right?)

:D Well for the first question, ^_^ and well I'm sort of not proud of this but I really don't watch any american tv. Most of the stuff I watch is anime or asian films, so pretty much I watch my favorite series and movies almost everyday.

As for the second question I've been speaking and reading Japanese since I was 5 so that's not really a problem for watching anime. Also Anime has been around since the 1960's with shows like Astro Boy, Gigantor and Speed Racer (japanese versions). To top it off in 1985 a bunch of fan sub companies poped into existance, one of them went on to become ADV Films, a good group of friends of mine.

:( Ack but this isn't a thread on my life story....V_V and is about Anime fans being isolated so I guess we should get back on topic. Maybe one day if the mods or admins here let me. I'll have a Q&A session thread with me or tell you guys my fablous life story. :toothy:

I think it's partially my fault people don't like anime at our school. I used to be obsessed with DBZ *dodges bad things*, even though I now think of the show as trash...very bad trash. I used to draw cute, huge-eyed anime things that were sickeningly cute last year, and I was swamped when yearbook time came because people wanted some sparkly-eyed animal in their yearbook.*popular people actually talked to me.....but I don't think of that as good* Strange, I draw more serioud anime now, and nobody likes it. Kinda expected it...
