I was looking at ign today and there was an article about rare going third party. And the problem is you need a subscription to read it! Damn them. Any of you got a subscription so you can fill us in on this shocking news?

Damn IGN insider lockouts...and Rare...I can't believe them...well, I guess because Nintendo's getting a lot more 3rd party attention Rare might loose profits because of it...keep us posted though, since IGN is still somewhat skeptical of it...

If it is true...it'll be a disappointing to see less games specifically made for GCN...I guess Factor 5 is going to be taking the place of RareWare since they've been closely studing the hardware of the GCN...plus, I believe they're involved in the new Metroid project...

Well, this certainly is disappointing news... Rare has always made great games (even if they do get delayed a lot), and I just hope they release all of their games on the GCN, as well as other system.

And yeah, it's hard to imagine playing Perfect Dark on the PS2 or X-box... Mainly because of the great GCN controller. Those two analog sticks would be really nice, for looking around and stuff. That, and just the general button layout would be better than the other controllers, for first person shooters, I think... You still can't beat a keyboard and mouse, though...

As far as I know, it's false. I've just read an article on Gamespot, saying this:

Recently, the company Rare, has confirmed it has a considerable amount of game titles lined up for the Nintendo GameCube, aswell as some for the Nintendo 64.

Rare says they're quite confident of Nintendo, and have plans to release a BIG game with-in the next two months, aswell as a sequal to "Conker's Bad Fur Day".

Now this is an extract from the article at Gamespot. It's not all of it.... just search for "Rare, third party" at Gamespot, and you should come across the article. :)

You guys are silly! :whoops:

I remember back a little while ago you were all excited when Square and Capcom made deals with Nintendo, but now that Rare may spread some of its franchises to other platforms you're all long faced.

It would be great to spread Perfect Dark to other consoles. Why? Because they have the best plans concerning online gaming. Rare has always included a strong multiplayer aspect in its first person shooters, so what better way to continue that tradition by exploring other platforms that offer better online services. Makes sense right?

Nintendo would be just fine without Rare as a second party anyway. Most of their titles are just knock-offs of already established Nintendo formulas. Look at how blatantly Diddy Kong Racing copies Mario Kart. Likewise for Banjo Kazooie compared to Mario with its hunting and gathering aspects. The Donkey Kong franchise also goes along those lines. The new Star Fox games will combine elements from Zelda and flying areas similar to the staple Star Fox games. Conker ran along the lines of Mario as well, but with swear words.

All in all, Rare would probably stay focused on Nintendo and never abandon them. I don't see what all the fuss is about. Sheesh.

If Rare does go third party they probabally will still make games for the GNC just because of their relationship with Nintendo. If they do switch without keeping atleast some games on the GCN that will lose a large fan base having their profits fall largely in sales so I wouldn't worry about it so much.

I think it's likely that Rare may expand its franchises for other consoles.

However, I suspect that we're more likely to see new franchises popping up.

You must remember that Nintendo owns a 49% controlling share of Rare Limited. And thus, it's actually Nintendo who signs off on anything.

Nintendo are going to protect their interests; no doubts there.

So I'd say that if Rare spreads its wings, so to speak, it will probably be in a relatively limited way. I doubt we'll see Donkey Kong or Perfect Dark on PS2 anytime soon.

Donkey Kong on the PS2 wouldn't fit in my opinion.... even all those adventure games (i.e. Conkers Bad Fur Day, Paper Mario [that would never happen as far as I'm concerned]), I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't sell as good as they have on the Nintendo Consoles.....

.......or then again, they might?

I'm just thinking of what it'd be like if it was on the PS2... just imagin, I don't think I'd ever get used to it with one of those controllers... it'd be wierd... :drunk:

The controllers on the SNES suit the DK games that are on the SNES....

I think DK64 on the PlayStation or PlayStation 2 would be hard just because you'd have to use the analog stick (eight directions wouldn't be enough for a game like that), which is pretty awkward, I think. The analog stick placements on the controllers are to far towards the center, for a controller that shape/size. I end up having to stretch my thumb way over to be able to reach it, or hold the controller funny so that it hurts my hand after awhile... Either way, it's uncomfortable for me...

It would suit the SNES/GB Donkey Kong games fine, though, since the PS1/PS2 controller is pretty much just an up-graded SNES controller. They pretty much just added another R and L botton, analog sticks (in the case of the Dual Shock controllers on the PS1), a rumble feature (again, on the Dual Shocks), and handle things...

But, it probably doesn't matter, because I don't think Rare actually owns the rights to Donkey Kong. I don't think Nintendo would give up one of their big franchises... It just wouldn't be a very bright thing to do...
