I have not noticed it before but now that you mention it,it does strike me as odd. Possibly it is because they want the FF series to be different then their other videogame series and want something to give the series a unique touch so they do not use it on other games. Or possibly it because they know that their other games will not sell as much as the FF series and do not want to spend as much money on computer generated FMV's so they hire someone to make animated FMV's to save money.

The use of computer generated cinematics isn't really hard to notice. Actually, most companies use CG instead of hand drawn anime cinematics now. I would love to give some great explanation, but all I can really say is that it's all a matter of preference. Most likely, Square feels that CG cinematics are more visually impressive and will help sell the games. Have you ever seen a Final Fantasy commercial? Ninety percent of what you'll see, is the computer generated cinematics.

Also, CG fits in with the actual in-game graphics of the more recent Final Fantasies. With the exception of FF7, the art styles of recent Final Fantasies haven't really been strongly anime oriented. Overall, they all try to take on a realistic approach. Even FF9 had realistic looking, prerendered backgrounds. Anime cinematics would probably clash with the overall artistic direction.

Just what other Squaresoft games use anime cinemas? The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Xenogears, which had awesome cinemas btw. I could care less if it's CG or anime-style, I figure they'll pick whichever one suits the gameplay and the engine.

Sorry about the signature thing, I just didn't know.

I still don't see why people should be concerned with things like this though. I mean, it can't really be changed, so why complain about it?

s'ok, right now the rules aren't up, so your not to blame :) -Cloud

Well, To name one popular non FF square game with anime cinematics, Legend of mana. That game was pretty cool. But I prefer anime type cinematics on RPG's but CG works well too. One of the few non FF games with CG cinematics on PS I've Ever seen (Besides Parasite Eve) Is Dewprism:Threads of Fate. Its not really popular and old so you probably don't know about it.

Now that I think about it, the only game I've seen with animé style cut scenes is Chrono Trigger in Final Fantasy Chronicles... CG seems normal for cut scenes, to me, although I like the animé style almost as much.

Ok for one, change your banner, because I'm the original Zidane on the Otaku Boards, dont try to imitate me.:D He he, just kidding.
But, I suppose anime CGI animation was used when Final Fantasy was mainly based and sold in Japan, here's my theoretical explanation. But when it hit Europe and so on, ah I dont know, but it makes a huge difference.

I think Final Fantasy VII was the first to come out with CG's, and since the game did *extremely* well, Squaresoft started putting them in all of their 'Soon to be a hit' RPGs... Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy IX, in my opinion, were totally based on graphics. I believe this is because a long time ago the question of 'What makes the Game?', Story or Graphics, The Age old Question... Got off Track, Sorry. But in my honest opinion, VIII and IX were designed for graphics, not story.

God dammit... This took me forever to rewrite... Please don't type in caps, NOFX... I also took the time to clean up your post. -Flash

I think FFVII wasn't the first game to utilize CG...but it was the first to use it as a storytelling component with the rest of the game when the rendering hardware of the PSX just wasn't enough to do what they wanted. Though in most of the FF PSone games, they're basically just for eye candy.
