MaggotDude
I just got Resident Evil today, and I am glad to say I am satisfied. I haven't even met an enemy yet, but the voice that says "Resident Evil" when you select New Game or Load Game and the opening movie already have me scared to death.I really can't wait to get further into the game...I wanna pop a grenade in a zombie's mouth when it attacks!:naughty: Does anyone else have RE yet? bignatedawg
I'm gonna get Resident Evil for the GCN some time soon. I havn't played it yet, but it looks good and scary as hell.
Adam
Rumor has it that James Burns is somewhere hidden in the game as an enemy zombie. And you thought the game was scary BEFORE. ::shudder::

Charles
Originally posted by Adam Rumor has it that James Burns is somewhere hidden in the game as an enemy zombie. And you thought the game was scary BEFORE. ::shudder::
Yeah, tell me about it. The only way to unlock him is to wait in the main hallway at exactly 3 hours and fifteen minutes into the game. I was playing as Jill and I heard Wesker getting yelled at by an unseen individual. As I was about to enter, the door broke down and Wesker stumbled out rambling about someone "more evil than himself." I got killed the first three times I fought this guy, but finally managed to take him down with a healthy poke in the forehead using my index finger. As for the rest of the game, it's pretty cool too. I knew 70% was changed, but I didn't know that that 70% would be of such high quality. The voice acting is better, but I really miss the old lines. Ah well, I'm loving every minute of it. This remake is almost like playing an entirely new game. Almost none of the puzzles went untouched. Also the zombie aren't pushovers anymore (besides the aforementioned JB zombie). I love the new method of disposing them. The only thing that still bothers me is the limited amount of items that can be carried. Backtracking is a major pain.
Fall
I take it you mean the Gamecube game of RE. Well, no I haven't got it on the GCN, but I intend to.... it looks great on the back of the box, and I'm looking forward to it. P.S. Great description CWB.... :)

After seeing the spiders and sharks, I'm just dying to do battle with the original badboy himself. Yep, that's one boss with the heart of a champion....
There is one more way that I know of to put Sephiroth down. It's tricky, but back in the mansion, under the rug in the main hall, there's a secret book. DON'T try to examine it, or your health level will go down to danger. When you get to the truck by the fence, deposit the secret book (Martha Stewart and Rosie O' Donald yuri) within the yaoi stash. Everyone knows that Sephiroth can't resist good yaoi, so when he comes after you, make sure you point him in the direction of the yaoi. Suffice to say, he'll be blinded temporarily giving you the chance to escape and see an alternate ending. And nope, the sandwhich line is deader than the zombies. Darn Capcom for taking out the best lines. Barry doesn't even do his ultra cool, "I've got this," while raising the colt python in the air. lol, I really miss, "We're old partners ya know." Guest Solid Snake
Ah, it's games like these that I regret not buying a GameCube for. Sure, the original Resident Evil is still a possibility for me, but as I see it, the remake sounds (and looks, for that matter) 50% better. With breath taking graphics, more rooms, more strategy, tougher zombies, different puzzles, and more, it's like a fresh start on the previous skeleton. And not only does it have better improvements, but it's also supposed to be even more scarier, adding such a great atmosphere to the game that it's no wonder people are finding it to be so fun. I look forward to seeing more great games by Capcom release for GameCube, but this game will always rank top among my Capcom favorites. :blah:
Semjaza
I knew the game was having a lot of things totally redone-- acording to some reports more than 70% of it was changed... But I honestly didn't expect it to be that big. I just beat the game earlier today, and I beat the original on PSX several years ago. The PSX version took me maybe 4 to 5 hours my first time, while the GC one took me almost 10 (plus all the times I died and forgot to save). So much has been changed that relying on your memory of the original won't help anything. It uses what you remember against you. Of course the graphics are amazing... Especially the outdoor areas. Later areas where there is lots of puddles on the floor are also impressive as they reflect all character models perfectly (not all blurry like a lot of games with mirrors are on recent systems). I don't even think any two zombies look alike, at least it didn't seem like it. And things like the Chimera and Snake just look way more frightening now that you can see all the details. I can't say it was all that scary, SH2 is honestly creepier...although I don't feel it was as good as the new RE (and I LOVED SH2). It made me jump a few times, but honestly rather rarely. The game is very good at atmosphere and tension though, way more than any game I've played in a long time. Totally worth buying a GC for if you like this sort of game. I can't wait for Zero. The Vampire: Ed
Originally posted by Sephiroth btw, does barry still say "jibble sandwitch"? that was the greatest line ever!
Minor correction Sephiroth. The line is "Jill sandwich", and like Crazy White Boy said. It was removed. Bah! They also had the nerves to removes the "I've got THIS!" line that Barry use to say while holding up his Magnum. That was a great little line, and they replaced it with "I like the buddy system I've got right here." So stupid... Well, anyway it's still a great game. It definitely improved upon the erie feel the first one had. A lot infact. Play it alone in the dark, and with head phones connected to the TV (providing you have that sort of TV). I'm willing to bet that'll really add to the scare factor of the game. 4/ /itchy tasty :drunk:

I've noticed that they don't grab at your legs anymore when they're down. Well, at least Capcom put in the ability to burn them with oil and the lighter. The Crimson Head zombies are a really neat idea. There's nothing like forgetting to truly kill a zombie, only to come back sometime later to find it rushing at you with huge claws. It just feels that much closer to being a full-fledged B Horror film. There is a drawback though. Sadly, Capcom didn't put in the ability to drop items like they're doing with Resident Evil Zero. I'm playing through Jill's game right now and it's really a pain in the neck carrying around a lighter and the oil (which needs to be refilled after every two uses). I can just imagine the backtracking I'll be forced to do with Chris because of that oil can taking up a whole space. :bawl:
James
Yeah, the backtracking element annoys me too...there are a few small things in the RE series which have really never changed. But if those things changed, the game would feel much different. Still, I like the whole concept of having limited inventory space...and relatively limited ammo/weaponry. They give you just enough, so that there will be times where you run out for just a moment...or you are close to running out...and it really increases the tension level. At first I hated that part of it (especially in RE3, where you go through ammo so quick, thanks to Nemesis). But after a while, I realized why they'd done it...and I kind of came to respect/enjoy it. :)
NeoCactuar
Oh the Resident Evil games.... I must say it is one of my favourite series, and it has completely defined the Survival/horror genre. I've played all the games numerous times, and still love them. Now... they are coming to Nintendo, and I couldn't be happier. Being the proud owner of a GBA, I would love to see RE make it to the handheld world, and with the new 3D engine that has been unveiled for the GBA, the dream is closer than ever. So... until then, I?ll just keep playing RE-CVX on my PS2. :)

You know, on paper that sounds good, but I think that a three dimensional Resident Evil would have its share of problems on the GameBoy Advance. The main thing that comes to my mind is poor visibility dragging things down. The backgrounds in Resident Evil are usually pretty dark and I don't think they would translate well onto the GameBoy Advance. Especially since it would be a pain seeing some items. And I heard about a new mode in the GameCube Resident Evil that creates even further difficulty in carrying items. From what I understand, the item boxes wouldn't be a network. If Chris deposited a shotgun in a box within the mansion, he couldn't access it in the sewers. I wonder if that's true....then again, I'm not sure I would want to play that way anyway. :drunk:
Guest
This game is so much better than the one on PS. Them Crimsons give me the freak when they run at ya. ::shudders:: The game is MUCH darker than the original as well. Playing in the middle of the night, lights off, window open, and you hear a scream outside ::shudders:: is scary. But otherwise the game is excellent.( We are talking about the GameCube version correct? 0.0)

The Vampire: Ed
Yeah, Crazy White Boy is correct there. It would be a whole different story if it was actually on the GBA. Also, I remember hearing there is another unlockabe mode in the game where all enemies are INVISIBLE! Imagine trying to play the game like that, it'd be damn near impossible. Also I heard there is another unlockable mode called 'One Dangerous Zombie.' It supposedly plays like it normally would, except you will be chased through out the game by a new zombie. But if you kill it the game will end before it is suppose to, so you will have to avoid it rather then fight it off. Strange huh?

NorykoAngelcry
I was never a big fan of Resident Evil. Last one I played was the one with Nemisis, and well. . for a starter game, that one really pissed me off. Something about wasting a guy with everything you have, and him still coming back. . that is just me I guess =P I am used to things dying when I kill them. But then again, that IS the fun of Resident Evil I suppose. Nothing got to me more then walking in a room after finally recharging my oil canteen, and saying, "Now where was that Zombie that was supposed to be right here?" before seeing it charge at me, arms hanging at it's side with claws extended. Now THAT was messed up the first few times it happened to me, LOL. Again, not being a bit RE fan, there were a few things that got me stuck easy. First was getting behind the waterfall. I had NO clue what to do there, and was getting frustrated. Two of my friends (one a RE freak) were not able to help me, though they plead now that they didn't know what part I was talking about. Finally got past that, only to get stuck at the room with Lisa?(the girl with chains) walking around, where you have to put the Broken Flamethrower next to the door. I just didn't see the switch for the first hundred times ^_^ Other then that, I suppose this game was very well done, and enjoyed beating the games multiple times with both characters. The secret costumes are great, but the game just seems to fizzle after the first few games. Still, the graphics were top, the sound and the puzzles were great, and the game overall is one of the best I have played in a VERY long time. Can't wait till RE 0. Oh yeah, first time I played the game 42 hours (from leaving it on while I was at work or asleep, etc etc. Second game, 3 hours 59 minutes. . gonna have to shave that time just a bit I think, lol
