Governor: I think you all know why I've called you here today. For those who don't it is because of the strange happenings going on outside of town. Zombies, fires, lightning, earthquakes and the like. I suspect that these calamities are being caused by devils. I have hired you all to go and stop this infernal calamity. You will be paid a adequite sum when you return. There is no time to lose! As we speak more horrible things are happening! You must go now.

The group leaves, setting out for the rocky hills to the southeast, where the calamities are origionating. Kune the druid scouts ahead, and returns with interesting news.

Kune: There is a group of zombies up ahead. Not just human zombies, but animals and beasts too. We need to procede with caution.

Just as he says this, there is a roar and a horde of 30 zombies or more come charging out from behind a large cluster of boulders.

Harlequin looks at Raistlin in disgust, and moves over to dispose of his attacker, lopping it's head off with the first circle of his twin viper, and slicing off an arm with the second.

Harlequin: Mages. No use at all.

Ignoring Raistlin's glare, Harlequin moves into the thick of the battle

Raistlin feels pain on his back from the zombie that clobberd him. Harlequin takes out the zombie on Raistlins back.

Raistlin:Chromo trio mas soro!. KA BOOM! Kune and Herlequin look to see what the comotion is and see lighting crackle from Raistlins hands then strike about three zombie ripping holes in there flesh. Kune takes out about 4 zombies with his triple hit kick.

*Why didn't you make it the same post?*

Harlequin continues to treat the battle as a joke, lazily avoiding the shambling zombies, and striking precise cuts in return. Very soon, his over-confidence gets the better of him, and he finds himself surrounded. Unperturbed, Harlequin ducks, and leaps up, while spinning his body and his twin viper around. His attack loses momentum after the first two hits, but the attackers have drawn off enough for him to regain ground.

Evelyn, having instinctivly hung back from the rest of the group, reaches the top of the hill and looks down upon the battle ensuing below. Not pausing for a moment, she runs into the fray and begins cutting down the few zombies that had penetrated the group and continued onwards down the road. Taking wild, slashing strokes with her katana, Evelyn leaves a trail of segregated zombies as she feasts from the leftovers with stunning grace. Glancing to her left, she sees that Harlequin has become surrounded. Conscious of his pride in his incredible combat skills, she camoflagues herself with a single word and begins to cull the numbers surrounding her fellow attacker. He does not seem to notice, and as she reappears they continue to fight unperturbed.

Noticing that Kune, Raistlin and the others have finished off the rest of the zombies, Harlequin turns around and bows ironically.

Harlequin: You feeling tired today Evelyn?

Evelyn: Not really...

Harlequin: Strange, I didn't see you. We seemed to be doing most of the work.

Evelyn: You didn't even notice my contribution. You think you killed all those zombies while surrounded.

Harlequin: Damn....

Ignoring the banter between Evelyn and Harlequin, the others continue on their way.

Evelyn: Well, if that is all, let us continue on our way. The earth tells me there is alot more ahead.

Harlequin(mocking):"The earth tells me there is alot more ahead..."Jesus, Evelyn, get a grip. We're warriors, not hippies.

Evelyn:....

Harlequin: Well, anyway. You're right, we should get going.

Evelyn stands completely still and watches Harlequin leave with the rest of the group. Counting silently in her head, she continues forward after ten seconds, cursing silently to herself. "Go out of your way to preserve a man's dignity, and you get stepped on for it..."

Still amused by Evelyn's indignance, and secretly concerned by her predictions, Harlequin decided he should probably drop back, and make sure she wasn't wandering around on her own. Not that he didn't believe she could take care of herself... He could just never stand to miss a chance to needle her... And he'd been saving up a quite a few sardonic quips for this exactly situation.

Evelyn, not paying attention, did not notice Harlequin slow down until he was standing beside her. Infuriated, she focused all her attention on the road ahead of her, her concentration killing small weeds and grasses and parching the earth dry.

Evelyn: What the hell do you want, Harlequin...

Harlequin: Why Evelyn, I'm shocked. You really think me such a base tormentor?

Evelyn: Yes.

Harlequin: People always think the worst of me. I'm so misjudged.

Evelyn: That's a really annoying habit you've picked up somewhere.

Harlequin: That just makes it a whole lot more fun.

Evelyn: Not for the rest of us.

Harlequin stops and raises his hands in a mollifying gesture. Evelyn keeps walking. Shrugging, Harlequin moves to the side of the road and conceals himself. For some reason he decides that they are being followed.

Evelyn notices that Harlequin has disappeared and that the group ahead are not slowing. She senses something is wrong and calls out to the others.

Evelyn: Uh, guys...

Kune: Yeah, what?

Evelyn: Do you notice anythin wrong?

Raistlin(to kune): what is she on about?

Kune: I don't know. (to evelyn) Nah, nothing.

Evelyn: Just keep your eyes open, ok?

Evelyn sticks to the side of the road and walks carefully, watching her back. Suddenly the road behind her is too quiet, and the group ahead of her is too loud...

Fully certain now that the party was being followed, and rather sure they were walking into a trap, Harlequin decides he should probably warn them. Or maybe not... See how they reacted to surprise. Harlequin moves back onto the trail, but only get a short way up before running into Evelyn.

Harlequin: Come on, we gotta watch this.

Evelyn: Watch what?

Harlequin: We're being followed, and we're probably walking into a trap.

Evelyn: We have to warn the others!

Harlequin: No, I think we should see how they react to surprise.

Evelyn: You're an evil bastard.

Harlequin: Yeah, so? We'll act as rear guard, so don't think we're all out abandoning them. So, why did you wait for me?

Harlequin: Why should it? Oh, by the way, I love you too.

Evelyn jumps back surprised, and yells "trout farms".

Harlequin: First time I've ever gotten THAT reaction.

Evelyn: God, for a minute I actually thought you were serious.

Evelyn starts up the trail towards the others, and, as such, misses the bittersweet, self-mocking smile Harlequin directs at her back. His broken sigh is too soft for her to hear.

Harlequin: And all my demons are heaven sent.

Getting over his melancholia, Harlequin walks after Evelyn, his face again emotionless.

Evelyn runs ahead to the group once more and then, thinking about what Harlequin had said to her, runs ahead. She sticks to the trees at the side of the road and steps lightly, and soon enough, feels the cold bite of steel against the curve of her neck. She freezes and slowly places her hands where her captive can see them, before ducking behind the blade and taking a wild grab at it's hilt. It was a very stupid thing to do, as the sword was a longsword and she managed to misjudge the length. Cursing as the blade bit deep into her hand, she held it anyway and pulled it out of the captor's grip. Then, much to their surprise, Evelyn screamed and began to bash the man around the head with the butt of the sword, blood running up her pale forearms. The man soon collapsed, but she didn't need to turn around to find out she was surrounded. Dropping the sword, she fell to her knees and began to wait for the others, angry at herself for taking such horridly dangerous risks.

Silently following Evelyn, Harlequin sighs at the number of men surrounding her, and strides in quickly. The first sign the men have that they are being attacked is a blade exploding out the chest of one of them, showering the others with blood. The blade withdraws, and the next thing the six men see is a black clad vortex spin at them, slicing three of them. Every hit takes out a vital tendon, leaving the three screaming, unable to move properly. Harlequin ducks a clumsy slash, coiling himself like a spring as he does so. Leaping up and spinning, he slices of the remaining ones across the throat. The last man takes one look at the expression on Harlequin's face and runs.

Harlequin: Let's go.

Evelyn: That's it? No "Are you okay?", kind of thing?

Harlequin: Would you care that I cared? I thought not. Again, let us go.

The party moved silently along the road, the trees around them giving way to burnt out huts and piles of unburied dead. The air breathes smoke and pools of fire dapple the desolate valley in front of them.

Evelyn: Wow, would you look at that...

Raistlin: And it's only been, what... a week now?

Rune: God, and already.... this.

The group, having stopped in shock of this scene before then, moves foward again, prompted by Harlequin's sudden stride forward. Evelyn levels wtih him, slightly ahead of the others.

Evelyn: Thankyou for what you did for me back there, I have never seen anyone fight like you.

Harlequin: Spare the compliments.

Evelyn: Well, I didn't see it as a compliment really, more as... a statement.

Harlequin: Well, you don't watch much fighting then, do you?

Evelyn(laughing): I'll admit that much. But seriously, you took an six people and finished before the other even had time to arrive...

Harlequin: Are you quite finished?

Evelyn: Sorry, I had no idea that compliments had this kind of effect on you.

Harlequin: Not compliments, just you.

Evelyn: What?!

Harlequin: I mean - other people's company. I don't... correlate well with other people.

Evelyn: I'm elvish, you know.

Harlequin: yes, it's rather obvious.

Evelyn: But thankyou all the same.

Harlequin says nothing, and continues to stare ahead.

Stepping over a decomposing corpse, Harlequin is unsurprised by the lack of scavangers in the ruined village. The undead have probably been picking them off. The exception to this is the carrion birds. Their raucous screaming fills the air, occasionally interrupted by a higher squeal as a bird loses a fight of a choice morsel. Harlequin walks on, ignoring the ravens the fly undaunted at his face. He does however, impale one on the end of his twin viper. It was about to hit Evelyn in the back of the head.

Harlequin: Watch your back damn it.

Evelyn: You seem to like doing it for me.

Harlequin: I'm not always there.

Evelyn: For which I am profoundly grateful.

At that, Harlequin viciously strikes out, slicing the wing off a dirty vulture too intent on its sickly meal to retreat. Other than that, Harlequin ignores Evelyn's remark.

Evelyn(removing the raven from his weapon and stroking it): I take it back.

Harlequin: What?

Evelyn: I take it back. I like it when you are there for me.

Harlequin: What in god's name are you doing to that piece of carrion?

Evely: Stroking it. But I apologise, I actually rather like you.

Apart froma slight muscle spasm, Evelyn's remark seemingly goes unnoticed by Harlequin. She Begins to pluck the bird and stick the feathers in her hair, keeping level with harlequin but making no attempt to revive the conversation.
