SSJ5 Vegeta
I don't label anyone. People will do what they want wear what they want. I wear what I please, some people may label me because I wear baggy pants and shirts, and because my friends dress the same way, they label us "Punks" or "stoners" but that doesn't matter to me. To me, they're just my friends. I hate labels, as BG said, they are for jars, not people.
Vegitto4
Well, labels can tend to define what kind fo a person a person is. They help, but can be hurtfull at times.
D. Dark
Isn't usually a group of the same clothed people a group of clones? Usually they all think the same, act the same. Might as well be one person. But this is usually a huge overexaggeration. I go to a school which wears uniforms, so I understand. It's usually the people with enough brains to fill one head that act as one person. This, of course, is a double-edged sword. It is important to me how I present myself, but I will never be anyone else's clone. I'm an individual, and I dress how I like. Isn't that what individualism is all about?
Anna
you don't need to look "punk" to be one..
I think I am going to carve that on every wooden post, melt it on every steel plate, and paint it on every wall I see......... That so applies to me. I get sooooo aggrivated when people automatically write me off as a prep, just because of my clothes. It's people like a lot of YOU cynics here that make ME mad..... Just because I wear Abercrombie every now and then doesn't mean I'm shallow. Just because I like cute, fashionable and feminine clothes doesn't mean I listen to Britney Spears (and yes, I actually have had people ask me that, on more than one occasion). I'm not immune to pain, emotion, breathing life and living in the "real world" because I don't agree with drugs, premarital sex, and anarchy. Gah..... just pull your heads out people; clothes are clothes. End of story.
Vegitto4
wrong, and right. Clothes are not just clothes. They suually define you as a person, because thats how this stupid world works. It truly depends on where you are. As Anna implied, don't judge a book by its cover. There are many other ways to define social class in this stupid world. Unfortunately, clothes is one of them. Whatever happened to clothes that were just to cover yourself from being naked?

Sure I can be a bit bitchy from time to time...but so can most people. I just don't like being categorized that way. For many of you who know me or have talked to me, you know what I really am at heart...A NERD! Hehehe... When I feel like some more out of the ordinary I might hold my breath and duck quickly in and out of a hot topic, but that is only if I find something reasonable that strikes my fancy. Unfortunatley, I have really bad luck at thrift stores. I can never find clothes in my size, or gender, lol. Not that I mind wearing certain women's clothing, cause some is really not that feminine looking, it is just even harder to find the right size, regardless of how feminine-like my body is shaped.. :drunk: I don't alternate my clothes that much anyway.. I usually wear the same thing for a week then swtich to something different for the next week. Axel--Ignition
I try my best to tell all my friends this, only a few listen to it: Would you rather have 1 $40 shirt, or 40 $1 shirts? At my school, people slam you around all day if you either don't believe in God, or refuse to wear Abercrombie or Old Navy. I happen to qualify for both. *ducks*
Guest Raven131
Our school has uniforms and when I think of stuff like thiss I'm kinda grateful for it. I shop in walmart and wouldn't dream of even going IN to a gap. Good Hint : Try thrift stores or good will stores or whatever there called. Some pplz think thats lame but you can find great deals. You may have to look a little harder cuz alot of its just old pplz stuff but you can find good stuff for cheap. Like a cool shirt may cost about $1-$3. And I just wear what I like. I don't care if it's popular or not. And even though we have uniforms, kids find other ways to judge pplz. Like how good you're hair is or who you hang out with. It really makes me sick. Smoke
It varies at my school. Some certain "clicks" demand you have a certain name brand while others have name brand but dont care if you dont. I have name brand but I do not look down on other people for not having it. And I make it a point in my life to not hang out with people who do think you have to have name brand stuff. SS Vegeta
Yes, clothes are a big deal at my school. But do I care? Not really. So many people made fun of me, or whatever, for wearing my TMNT shirt. The only people that understood were my friends. What stereotype are they you ask. They like me are Punk/Skater/Goths.
Semjaza
Well I was forced to go to Catholic schools. So it wasn't generally an issue. I am in college now, and have attended two schools... And it's funny how it totally is a non-issue. I personally run around in big metal soled boots with bright neon green laces, jeans , bizarre shirts, lots of chains (my favorite being one made of metallic blue barbwire, although it is dull lol), and hair that is ALWAYS dyed... No one even gives it a second look. There are people totally opposite of me, and no one thinks anything of that either. That is probably the best part about college I think. Of course it's another matter when I am walking around downtown Chicago to school. Apparently business people don't like people running around with satanic shirts and violet and red hair (that's what it is currently) lol. Damn businessmen. The only good think I ever got at Hot Topic was an old German army coat, which I wear as much as I used to wear my old mechanic's coat. I refuse to buy labels.... I have never been in a Gap or an Old Navy. Weird.
BabyGirl
Originally posted by SemjazaAzazel I have never been in a Gap or an Old Navy. Weird.
You're not really missing much.
I refuse to buy labels....
You know, this subject has always intrigued me. Do people refuse to buy lables so that they can become the 'unconformists' of our society and 'go against' what is considered 'mainstream' and 'cool'? (I dearly hate that word...) I don't buy Abercrombie. I'll admit that I 'refuse' to buy it, though I will still wear the AF clothes that I already own. And yet, when I asked myself why I 'refuse' to even enter an Abercrombie store, I realized it's not because I want to rebel against the norm...it's simply because I hate their clothes and anything you own from there, someone else you know will own it too :p Besides that, it's just not my style. I'd much rather spend all of my time and money in Express or Wet Seal...which I guess could both be considered 'lables' to some extent. I think I look bad in AF/AE "prep" (hate that word as well...) clothes. I guess the reason I'm rambling is because I really am curious. Do you not buy 'lables' because you want to 'rebel'? And I assure you that I'm merely being investigative...
Semjaza
Generally, when I think about a label... I think about a shirt with the brand name plastered all over it, which is how most of those stores are. I don't want my shirts to say "Old Navy," "Abercrombie" or whatever else. Hell they should pay me to wear them, it's freaking advertising for a company no one should give a crap about. I simply do not like the whole style of Gap, Abercrombie or anything like that. It just isn't how I dress, and I refuse to wear it. I would return it if it was given to me too. Also, based on people I know...wearing stuff like that is like some way to show off to these people. Kinda like, "look I shop here too! I'm cool." I know this isn't the case for most people, but I do know a lot of people like that. As for the whole rebeling thing... I'm not trying to prove anything by it. The big reason, like I said before, is that I hate wearing shirts that say the brand all over them. I kinda just wear what I want, and generally when buying clothes I just buy things that I think would look good. Never once has anything I thought looked good been a big label. So basically I "refuse" to buy that stuff I guess :). I've got nothing to rebel against honestly. I just like doing what I do. I used to go to Southern (SIUC - Southern Illinois University in Carbondale), and it was mostly filled with the "preppy" and "hip- hop" type crowds. I saw big name labels all over the place, and it's just not something that has ever interested me. I don't care about the name of what I get. I didn't expect this from a supposed "party" school though. Not many people liked anything I did; I was suprised to see I was one of maybe 3 out of 1000s that actually dressed how I do and dyed their hair. I thought it would be pretty common lol. Hmm... I really went on and on... :drunk: OH... and the commercials! They just annoy the hell out of me. The Gap ones drive me insane. It's like everyone WANTS to look the same... I walk downtown (there is an Old Navy right next to my school), and I see everyone wearing what is basically the same clothes in different colors. It drives me nuts. The Old Navy commercials used to be okay...lately they are getting bad though lol.
Guest Raven131
I'll admit I used to buy label cloths. I really like Hot Topic but it's soo expensive. I just wear what I like and whats different. Okay yea maybe I do like to rebel. I like to be original. Not that I would buy something I totally hate because it is original. I'm kinda in between what I like and whats different
Alexander
I really wish we had school uniforms here at my school - no more of the junk clothes I'm seing here. I personally would love it - of course...nobody at school I can think of would agree with that.
