wrist cutter
...of modern American rock? Since I was born in the '80s and never really cared for American rock music, I was just wondering who you would consider a driving force behind rock music in America. I'm thinking Metallica, but I don't really know. Maybe it stems back further than that - but just keep in mind that I said "modern American rock"... I don't think the Beatles ever influenced any thrash metal.
The Harlequin
ICP. (Insane Clown Possie for all those uneducated, uncultured unfortunates out there.)The ORIGINAL Detroit Rockers. They shall forever be immmortalised, if for nothing else then for their many, many, Eminem parodies.
Amphion
I think Pearl Jam and Nirvana was big for the industry. Even though they where both not as much heavy metal but they paved the way for the good ol garage band headbangers...

But they are not pure rock. Don't gat me wrong I like ICP, they are just not rock. Ok?
RicoTranzrig
For just good modern rock...I'd say Metallica or KISS (I guess...) But for the Heavy Metal...Korn and Tool paved a lot ground for the newer bands.

Now, you can not deny that they influenced a lot of early American rock bands, and still continue to do so. On another note though, some of their songs would be considered more rock than rap. Transtic Nerve
"Modern Rock" today has so many different genres it's hard to tell exactly. ALot of "modern" groups now-a-days say that bands like Led Zeplin and the likes inspired them. Bands that Eric Clapton used to be in lol. He's been in so many it's not even funny. Metallica is still fairly new... they were formed in 82 and released their first album in 83'.... their only 20 years old, which is good for inspiration for the newer, younger bands on the market right now. Depending on which type of music they play, Nirvana could have been inspiration. WHich undoubtably they have been for numerous bands. Hair bands like Bon Jovi, Poison, Motley Cru, and the likes were inspiration to some. George Michael is another... these were all bands that our modern rock stars listened to as kids and teenagers.... There's so many great American rock bands... yet... so many more crappy ones.... Glad, we got that cleared up.
