Ugh! Why does the friggin US government have to be so damned arrogant?!

As some of you may already know, I'm leaving for the USA on June 12th. I'm gonna stay with my Dad for upwards of 3 months... Which means I have to get a Visa.

14 year old boy, going to see his Dad in the USA, and maybe attend public school there for awhile. Seems fair. But not to the US Embassy. Oh-no.

My first application for Visa got declined... They didn't even supply a reason. We just recieved a little piece of paper that said 'blah blah blah your Visa application was denied blah blah'.

But we weren't gonna give up there. After reapplying, this time providing letters from the school I planned on attending, and my Father. But still, I was declined. Thankfully, they gave a reason this time. Why? Because I couldn't attend public school in the US. Why? I have no idea. My Stepmother has US Citizenship, my Dad has Permanent Residentship... They pay their taxes.. Why the hell can't I attend a public junior friggin' high school!?

But we persevered. We reapplied again, this time just stating that I WOULDN'T attend school while over there. Hell, I was gonna go anyway, screw the government... The school even SAID they were fine with me going...

So just this morning, we got another letter regarding my Visa application. And guess what? Denied! Why, you ask? Because I 'don't show significant financial/social/family connections, and therefore may illegally immigrate to america past the limit of your Visa'.
What the hell?! I'm 14 years old! I have no financial connections! Social and family connections? They only Social and Family connections I have are in this country! God...

So now, my First, and possibly only OE is cut down to 3 months, thanks to the stupid frigging US Government and its stupid rules. And to make matters worse, my Mum spend over $110 on the applications, which won't get refunded. Greedy sons of bitches.

I pity everyone who lives in the USA, for having such a pathetic goverment. And that ends this rant.

I am sorry to hear abut your problems with the US government. It seems to be much easier to get out of the country, than it does to get in. One of my friends went to England for the summer, and he didn't seem to have any troubles. My guess is that it is a security.

The government is making it's laws to get into the country more strict in some sort of futile attempt to stop terrorism. I am not accusing you of being a terrorist (a terrorist who makes Mega Man sprites? No way!) and I don't think the US government is either, but they have to be careful you know.

You also have to be really careful with filling out the paperwork, no matter what you are doing here. One typo on your taxes and you can get in huge trouble.

Good luck in the future... but where exactly are you going in the United States?

There's nothing really notable here in the U.S...but I really don't like what they're doing to my family back in Southeast Asia...they applied in '79 and they won't get here until 2004...and it's getting worse over there b/c there's a lot of terrorism in the Phillipines, kidnappings, murders, bombings stuff...you've never really hear of in the news...the U.S.'s excuse was they weren't "financially stable" enough...how can that be? (Given the good economic status of my family overseas...)

Isn't there a quota system? I am pretty sure that the U.S. picks and chooses immigrants depending on how government feels towards certain populations and how much they are needed. Basically, relations with other countries and how much the United States rely on them economically and politically are taken into account before new immigrants are admitted.

I must say that Australia?s record isn?t perfect but that?s pitiful. I would suggest going higher up, and complaining to some one with some power about your situation.

I have a feeling he thinks you're from Aussie, like me... Either that, or he's typed Australia instead of America... Or something like that.

But anyway, I don't like the sound of what the US goverment is doing. Not at all. I don't really know much about the US goverment, or even the situation you're in, so I can't really offer any advice. But either way, good luck on whatever happens...

Sorry, no offense but I dont feel sorry for you. I am glad they are like that. We just had 8 to 10 people come over here on visas to go to school and the used it to learn to fly and take out two of the biggest buildings in america killing loads of innocent people. Age doesnt matter either, there are young 15 16 year old palestinian suicide bombers. I dont think they sould cut people from coming all together but I am glad they are very strict now. Thanks to the wacked Clinton administration just about anyone could walk over here when they felt like it. I doupt seriously you wont kill anyone so keep trying I am sure they are just trying to keep anything bad from happening, thats something yuo will just have to understand.

Oh come on, this is a kid from Australia. He's what 14. He's not form an "axis of evil" state. (*Cough bush needs help *cough) All of thoughts people that did the "revenge attacks" where over 20. [And yes I'm calling them the "revenge attacks" because I'm sick of the American people on this board acting all innocent. When you where bombing these countries and kill there innocent people did you care? NO! And did you try and stop it? NO! They are just getting you back for 10 years of killing there people.]
And wasn?t it 22 people? Not 8 to 10?

Well, the United States Visa program has been very screwy since 9/11. I used to live in Australia(Perth) and have since moved back to the US. The United states goverment isnt perfect, neither is any other goverment. Sounds to me like you got tangled up un beurocratic garbage.

I dont know if this would help but if you could go to one of the US embassys and ask to talk to someone about your visa application, it might help.

I personally liked Australia when I lived there and much perfer it to the US. But I never got to NZ though. Mabye someday.....

I admit, Bush was wrong for that "Axis of Evil" crap, but we admitted that we killed innocent civilians in the retaliation attacks and we deeply regret hurting people who didn't need to be involved. You're making us Americans to be heartless savages or something. And that's messed up what happened to you , FF.

Bah... Oh well. I guess I'll just stay for 3 months, or apply for a Visa extension while I'm over there... I'm not immigrating, just going on holiday, after all...

Besides, why would I stay? I'd miss my PC too much... :p

Yes, those people did get Visas and so forth, but that is no reason to stop a teenager from going over to America to spend time with his father. I think that this whole "anti-terrorism security" is getting way out of hand, my aunty recently got searched because American airport officials thought she had bombs planted in her barely half inch thick sandals!
Final_Flash, I know how it must annoy the hell out of you but keep trying, you'll eventually get that Visa.

Everyone in America is except for the Native Americans who I might add the Government treats like crap! So lets see if this makes sense...no immigrants even tho we are, and treat the real Americans like crap. Makes alot of sense to me!

Look yes it was a tragedy but it does not justify us from stopping people to come over here! I say he should be alowed! He has nothing in his record that would hint of anything, hell we don't even have the slightest anger/suspistion/fear against New Zealand! Why should he not be accepted?!

I tottaly agree.... I mean 9/11 did have a terrible effect on us but we do need to keep going on with our lives. I mean we cant just stand there feeling sad for ourselves. We need to put all that behind us now.

I think everything about 9/11 is pretty much stupid. I think it's stupid Afghanistan felt the need to crash 3 planes in the US, and I think it's stupid that now people are so racist against muslims, and that everyone's all paranoid. I mean, security is good, just don't go overboard........

And I think it sucks that you can't get your 3 month+ holiday. That's totally screwed. Now the US government is just being paranoid.

I totally agree with DuoGod of Death on this issue.

However, as far a the "revenge attacks" go since when did America attack anyone without a real reason? When has America attacked anyone for nothing?

Can you give me any answers Cloricus?

You're wrong on quite a few points there.

Firstly, it's more than acceptable to tighten the belt and have higher security...but in this case, we're talking about a fourteen year old boy from New Zealand, who already has parents in the United States.

The Government can filter through people who are suspicious or whatnot, but this is just plain stupid. There is no excuse for such a ridiculous response from the Government -- this just comes down to laziness and inefficiency.

As for Clinton, he did what he could. I'm not trying to defend every action, but a lot of morons are now saying "that idiot Clinton did nothing".

Well I hate to tell you, but had September 11 not happened, President Bush wouldn't be doing anything either. He has been no better than Clinton; he's been reactive rather than proactive.

It's unfair and ignorant to blame a past administration when you don't truly understand the circumstances.

Wow, this is two posts in a row that I agree with James whole heartedly...Amazing...

Whatever happened to "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

That is the inscription on the Statue of liberty...now it should read "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door AND SEND THEM BACK HOME!!"

Flash is only 14, and he is visiting his father!! It is ridiculous that our country will not grant him a limited visa to see his father.

As proud as I am to be an American, if I could get a visa to New Zealand and had a good job lined up, I would hop on a plane right now...from what I have heard the country is as close to paradise as you can get, it is having its golden era like the US did in the early twenties and in the early sixties. Although no country is perfect, I think the US has unfortunatly past its prime... hopefully I will be proved wrong.

Well, the US government contols Immigration Services, it is a government agency, and it is one agency that is constantly scrutinized in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, so I do tend to blame the government for its falicies. Unfortunatly, I blame, but I can offer no true solution to our dillemma...so what if I cast the stones, that is the best part of the US, we can freely and openly disagree with any aspects that we do not like.
