Would you believe it?! How could this happen?! ..........

My Gamecube, the japanese one, has had an unfortunate problem.... :( The CD lid thingie that closes on the CD has.... snapped off.... :drunk: My little bro was fighting with me to play it (as if I'd let him play it.....), and he got so angry that he... hit.. it... It fell off the table it was on, and the CD hatch was open. So it snapped off the lid.... and to go with it, the controller was plugged in, and it was caught on the top bunk of my bed (I usually play my Gamecube from the top bunk). So it somehow ripped out the 1st player plug. that you plug the controller in to.... :flaming: It still turns on, but that's all, because it can't play the CD, and can't detect the 1st controller...

How do I get it repaired? Would an Australian repairer be able to repair it? Or would I have to send it overseas or something?

Man this sucks...

First off, I don't think it matters which plug you play from as long as there is no preceding plug with a controller and about the lid I think if there is a button which is pressed when you close it, if you hold down that button when you want to play it would work.

Ahh, that's the price for getting a Japanese system. ;)

You can send the console to Nintendo Australia for repair -- but be warned...you'll have to pay for the repair and pay for the shipping/handling.

Nintendo's HQ are in Melbourne...so it might be pretty pricey.

And with all the repair and shipping/handling it would cost a pretty penny. ;)

You may as well just get a new Gamecube :), it would probably match the price of all the above anyway.

Well, before doing anything rash like buying a new gamecube you really should contack Nintendo and ask them an estimate of the price for repairs. It may be a expensive to repair but if it is less then buyinga gamecube new then you jsut saved yourself some money. Be the smart shopper. And i am guessing that oyu will need someone who knows what there doing so you should not try to fix it yourself. Oh and next time don't keep it very hight off the ground. But if it is on the ground make sure not to step on it, lol

Man, that really sucks... You should try looking on www.nintendo.com under the "customer service" section, and see if it gives prices for repairing a GCN. I'm pretty sure it has information about that sort of thing.

Also, you might look at your warrenty and see if it covers stuff like this. It probably won't, because the GCN is Japanese, or for some other reason, but you never know. I'd check it out just in case.

Ok, if the warranty is in the manual, I can't read it, unless it's also got a translation in english with it. I'm sure it does, but at the moment I'm busy trying to find the actual manual... :drunk:

I'll ring Nintendo HQ to see the price it will most likely cost me, though I'm not expecting anything cheap.

Going to Nintendo.com won't help him at all...as Nintendo.com is an American site for Nintendo of America.

If he needs warranty info, he should ring Nintendo Australia by phone or he should visit www.nintendo.com.au for assistance.

Eh? They don't have repair info for different countries? I checked www.nintendo.com.au, and I couldn't find any information on getting a GCN repaired... I was sure they had information for different countries in the costomer service section, though...

Nope, of course they don't. :)

Nintendo of America isn't Nintendo Australia...they are two different companies. Their repairing policies may also be somewhat different.

I am not sure whether or not Nintendo Australia would actually repair a foreign machine (he may even need to send it all the way back to Japan for repairs)...but you never know.

If there is any doubt, he should just call 'em. :)

Oh, it's never a good thing when a system breaks, especailly one that you are particularly fond of at that point in time. I'm going to have to go with Kizu on this one at being a smart shopper. Price everything out, and go with the most affordable and comfortable offer, without going out and buying yourself a brand new GameCube. What would that waste? Four hundred plus dollars? There are, of course, other options. You say that the GCN cannot read the CD, most likely because of the detached lid. Well, maybe it would read the CD better if you put something in the hole as a temperary solution to make it THINK the lid is shut. Once this is complete, try to play games with the second controller. If both work, you will be cured for a short period. In time, however, you should get both replaced, so my advice is to start shopping now.

Good luck.

Actually, it would waste$324 here.... still, I'd rather repair my broken one.

For some reason, the phone won't be answered. It rings, and then just hangs up. I just guess I'm having a very bad week...

I see, yes, I too would rather have the panasonic cube fixed. That is unless the combined price of shipping over seas and the actual repair amazingly adds up to more than $200, which I would then unfortuanetly forget about the "Q" and go for a normal one. Heh, an even better idea is to make your younger brother pay for the repair, since it was he who broke it in the first place.

If the phone just keeps ringing, then perhaps either they have a new line that you should use, or there are so many people calling in that you can't get through. It seems, from the look of your situation and your banner, that you have fallen victom to your own nightmare.

dont let him ever pull that kind of crap again.
my bro has done stuff like that and prob. is, you cant get it replaced for any valid reasonl; its all left on you to worry about.
its not like a warranty will cover that...
good luck my friend, good luck.

Thats terrible...

I remember a few years back when my little brother knocked my TV onto my SNES. The whole side of the system was busted off, and the TV had a double image thing on the screen, and then just stopped working later that day. Somehow I managed to get the SNES to work, I don't even know how I did it. But the TV had to be thrown out.

Now about your sittuation, I really don't know what to tell ya, but other people have posted some pretty good advice. Good luck solving your system problem.

Indeed it is. And though I'd prefer not to 'brag', so to say, I only live about 2 k's away from it. :D

Anyway, that's real unfortunate. Anyway, I don't really know what advice to give to you about your problem.

And buying a foriegn console system has never been the best idea. If I were you I would've saved up and bought the GameCube when it came out in Aus. ...Wait, I did do that. *goes off to play Gamecube*

Do you know if it's their phone or yours? If you have more than one phone in the house, you might try them. Or maybe try calling from someone elses house... Is there an e-mail address you could contact Nintendo of Australia at? If so, you could try e-mailing them.
