Too many punks

With the exception of one, every band that is formed at my school is punk, or alternative of some sort that sounds similar to punk. This pisses me off, because I don't like punk/alternative at all, it's just not my taste.

Every time I hear of a band forming, I'm interested because I've been looking to join a band ever since I got in high school. But every time I ask what kind of music they play, I always get the same response: punk. And it pisses me off. The one exception noted above is a hardcore band, but they have no need for me there and their musical style is not to my liking anyway.

Just figured I'd vent my frustration on this topic.

I know how you feel, even if I myself am not looking to get into a band. At my school, everyone is trying to play Punk or something they call Grunge..lol Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Punk or Grunge, however, when people play the same music over and over without trying to play their OWN music, it gets irritating and annoying.

*sighs* How about you put\ together a few of your friend and make your own band?

Heh heh heh... maybe we should switch schools :p Not really though.

I have a similar yet different problem. You see, I like punk! And most bands that form in my school try to be punk, but can't. They are all "We are gonig to sound just like Blink 182!!!" Even then they only have heard the 'latest' songs by them  It is fun though, to find their cheapy little geocities websites and sign there guest books and flame the hell out of them !! Though there are plenty of decent local punk bands here, I'm just talking about at my school :p

ehm, sorry to hear that. What is your musical preference?? I myself love punk music, but not the kind that sounds like every other band... the generic and monotonous stuff that lacks originality. Same with alternative... seems like the only thing different with all these bands are their names. Well, sorry you're disappointed in your school's main genre...... I'd help ya if I could buuuut.... I kinda can't. ^_^

[obvious] Well... why don't you just start your own band? Seek out friends who have the same taste in music as you do. That way, you don't have to wait for ever for a non-punk band to form. [/obvious]

And then, you can get back at the punks, and if they want to join your band, you can tell them what kind of music you're playing, than they'll feel the same way you do.

Or something...

I wish I had more people that like Punk at my school, well there are, just they are high-school and I don't hang out with them... I'm one of the few that like Punk, Grunge is like Acid Rock isn't it? Correct me if I'm wrong, just don't flame me [Piro :p]

Most people at my school like RAP, although I like some of it, just not all of it

I never pay attention to bands that form in my school... or my former school... They all mostly sucked... except one... who I think are fairly famous locally now. But I don't keep up with them....

We had this one year where these girl groups just kept popping up... 0-0;... that was an odd thing... There was this one girl in my math class last yea, you'd like her Jimmy (how she looks that is :p) and she actually got fairly famous here. She was payed on the radio, did big house shows... I haven't heard of her lately, possibly because I don't listen to the "pop station" here where she was played on the radio.

So yeah... METOLIUS IS THE BEST BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well OK... I'll respond to all your posts individually.

~Mystical Pan~:
I agree; everyone at my school sounds the same because they're all following the same musical pattern. And I would form a band with some of my friends, but I really don't have many. Those who are my friends are already in a band or aren't interested in joining one.

PiroMunkie:
Well, I really can't tell the difference between "poser punk" and "real punk" because it all sounds the same to me. But I'm guessing the bands here are the ones you enjoy flaming the hell out of...

Anna:
Um, well, I suppose my favorite genre is "pop-rock". But I doubt any of you are familiar with exactly what I'm talking about, because pop-rock in the states either has too much punk influence or is just pop with occasional guitars (which isn't too bad I suppose). It's a genre that isn't really too popular in America unfortunately. But if I were to join a band, I'd wanna play all sorts of genres. Speed metal, ballads, medium tempo rock songs... I wouldn't want to limit my creativity.

Nerdsy:
Well as I said above, all of my friends are currently in bands or aren't interested. And it's not easy to find people who want to follow the same musical path I'd like to, because I have a rather unique taste in music I think. Plus I'm a control freak -_-;

Transtic Nerve:
Yeah, you told me about that group awhile back. What kinda music were they? And why would I like the way this girl looks? (perhaps you should PM me about that matter....) And yes, of course, METOLIUS forever.

Some of the replies I didn't respond to, 'cuz well, there wasn't really much to respond to that already hadn't been stated above.

That's cool. Where do you live anyway? And I suppose if pop rock isn't what I've heard here in the states, then no I don't think I'm familiar with the kind of pop-rock you're talking about. Do you mean like, umm..... say Collective soul? I guess they have a little pop in their sound, especially now  I can't stand when people sell out. Have you seen the new album cover?! 40-year old men sporting a Backstreet Boy ensemble..... I wouldn't mind as much 'cause image is nothing (thirst is everything :toothy: sorry) but their sound has followed their looks.... downhill. Anyways, back to topic; yeah specify what you mean by pop-rock, I'm interested.

At our school, there are three basic types of music:

1.) punk

2.) RAP (maybe we should tell them that it stands for "Retards Attempting Poetry" and see if they change their minds. lol)

3.) Pop (such as N*Sync and Brittany Spears. >.<)

I don't like ANY of those types. I prefer rock. :D

lol! Thats a good one.

At my school, I'm in a punk band, and we kick a*s. You probably haven't heard of us, because we don't play to make money, which is what most high school bands want to do. We play for the fun of it, and the suprise when people here how good our songs are!

And when I read the topic title("to many punks!")I thought you were some crotchety old man!

Ya know, I just realized, I never really pay attention to the bands at our school. I know we have losers like Chris Mitchell who starts a band and all they play is Creed stuff...(Or how about the Scottish Jig that he played at the Talent Show... -_-)...but I never ever noticed. So I really don't know what would dominate our school. The only person I ever really pay attention to when they play music is um Anna, because she does the drums and stuff, and my Ryan...*stares off in a dream like state and waits for Anna to conk her over to head with the mallet that she hit Samantha with...* Yeah, he writes his own music and he comes up with the most awesome lyrics...he's going to be famous someday I think...

Over time, it's come to mere pity instead of violence. ;) (j/k)

Well, our school..... let's see, we have that rap group (the one that has the 'JC Theme' or whatever.... they were the last to go on in the talent show I think), we have Odd Man Out- which I still want to hear, umm.... I think we probably have like one 'heavy metal' band some people made that I don't know about,..... I think it's safe to say we have absolutely nooooo punk bands. lol...... Tori, I think I might be the only 'punk' in the school ....no wait, Alex Thigpen knows a lot of punk :drunk: and David moved away... maybe there are a few, but definately not enough to even consider. Punk is something that's not really even acknowledged at our school.

*coughs* Okay Anna....

Anywho, I forgot about Odd Man Out, but technically they're not at our school anymore because both Sam and Thomas graduated, but for some reason I think that I liked them...Sam wrote most of the music and it was pretty good, that one that they did perform at the Talent Show, just him and Thomas.

That rap group...is that retarded or what? I just didn't like them, but hey, at least our school has one?

Punks...*laughs* They just aren't here in good ol JC...*laughs again*

nooope..... *sniffles* and those who claim to be 'punk's are...... icky people. >_< Chris Wooten, Alex, bleh....... there aren't any cool punks, besides myself of course ;) hehehe ^_^ Actually, do you think that people even consider me that? I know I don't look it.......

-edit-

oh yeah, and I agree the rap group really isn't that great........ I could have laid down a better track that what they did, without the rapping. I've never professed to be able to do that, and that's the only thing I won't criticize b/c it's something I can't do. But the synthesizing they had...... :cross: even *I* could come up with something more original.

And that's basically how I feel about ALL rap, but that's just my opinion. There are lots of people out there who like it, and that's why it's so stupidly popular. (Because there are too many stupid people in this world, who support stupid music, because it's the only thing on their stupid brain level that they can comprehend because it usually has to do with girls, sex, drugs, cheesy love life, money, etc...) Anna, the only cool punk. Tori, the "Freakish-Punk" *laughs*, yeah, that's about all we have. Katie Jane likes punk, too, Anna.

If you noticed, Anna, I did not make any bad comments about punk music. I mearly stated that it was popular at our school. Also, *hits her on head with a baseball bat* you know full well that I like the Aquabats! :D

A local band here called "Y@nk" is the band I hate most of all, and enjoy flaming them the most :p To see what a "poser band" looks/sounds like, take a good look here: http://www.geocities.com/ya_nk/

You can already tell they are bad because of the geocities address, lol. Even then they can't make at least a decent website. If you look at their guestbook before they delete my latest entry. I'm the one that goes by the name of "Bob" lol

WARNING: That site is not for the weak of stomach!

I about threw up the first time I looked at it.. seriously..

Okay, um those sound clips...... do they really sound like that?! The opening picture looks like an ad for backstreet boys or something.

eww.......

I was thrown into a state of confusion...... torn between :rotflmao: and , almost to the point of :alcohol:. Bleh,....... yes, that would be an example of poser punk..... or just posers.....

Aie that's right, I thought I was forgetting about someone. She's the Alterna-Punk since I'm apparently the Psycho-Punk. I think our titles ought to be switched..... she's more psycho than I am (and I mean that in a good way :smooch: )

And Samantha- er "kool-aid"; your school doesn't know the meaning of 'punk music'..... you're in the 7th grade , I've heard what your friends listen to, from both you and stephanie. If I were to try and converse with others your age about punk bands or punk music, they'd be in over their heads. Of course, if you think I'm mistaken, bring your best :demon: and we'll see.

Okay, first of all, Anna, I agree with you...those guys look alot like Backstreet Boys...I see that more than one of them actually looks like Nick Carter, and that is very disturbing. If you are going to be a PUNK and you look like that, at LEAST spike your hair up or die it blue or something! But GEEZ....*shudders hideously...*

And Anna, I think your title is just fine, you Psycho-punk, you. And I'm the Freakish-punk. Ah, how I love my title. I don't know though...how exactly would you classify me? I'm definately not a punk although I do wear my spikes every now and then...

Weeeeee, I'm a Psycho-Punk! :wigout: I was actually "Psycho-Prep" as once David said, but I think the Punk fits better.... though I look more like a prep than a punk... most of the time... :drunk:

You seem to fit 'Freakish-punk' alright. Maybe you could beeee........ a Grungey-Freak! lol...... I don't know. Oh wait I got it, a Freakish- THUG. HA HA HA... :D Don't hurt me.

Grungish-Freak sounds better than Grungey-Freak...geez, Anna, you cease to trip me out. But I am so far from a Freakish-Thug it's not even fun. Me and Thug aren't even in close categories...*glares at Anna and then laughs*
