GameCube Price Drop & More

Yes indeed, GameCube is now selling for $149 in the USA!

It seems that Nintendo has decided to respond to MS/Sony's little "price war".

Those members who live in Australia won't be surprised though, as only a week or so before launch, Nintendo Australia announced that they were cutting $70 off the price of the console.

Interesting stuff indeed.

Nintendo has also revealed some interesting tidbits prior to their E3 Press Conference tomorrow.

First, the new Zelda on GameCube (which will be playable at E3), will see Link saving his sister and not Princess Zelda.

Interesting, eh? ;)

Second, the new Zelda for GBA (I think it's a Link to the Past remake), will apparently feature a two player cooperative mode.

The idea is that when playing two players, each player will have a different coloured Link...and some puzzles will require both Links to stand on switches and such...

Very interesting news -- just imagine how fun a two player cooperative Link to the Past would be! ^_^

Nintendo's big press conference is tomorrow...and the company will be showing a slew of playable GameCube titles this year, including Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, The Legend of Zelda and more.

The company will also reveal new games such as 1080 Snowboarding 2: White Storm, Wario World, Mario Party 4...and also, there are rumors that they will be revealing Super Mario Kart for GameCube for the very first time!

I can't wait to see what news pops up at E3...

What are you guys looking forward to reading about most?

Wow a Zelda game for the GBA. Thats cool and cooler is the co-op feature. I wonder how nintendo is gonna use that... Anyways, I don't have a gamecube yet and I'm not looking forward to that cel-shaded Zelda game. I don't know how Nintendo now says Link has a sister, since they took long enough for them to tell us if he has any family at all. Anyway as for the price drop, I thought it was $125 drop. At least thats how much I saw it at my local video game store....

I'm looking forward to hearing about three games in particular. The first is Perfect Dark Zero, because I love Rare's first person shooter series. Although the graphics have never been that great, the gameplay and multi-player are spot on. Hehe, no one has been able to top Rare's one Bond game and that was released when? 1996? Really, the just demonstrates how great the game plays.

The second game I want to hear about is Metroid: Prime. I'm just really anxious to play this game and see how well it stays true to its predecessors.

Lastly, I really want to see more of Mario Sunshine. Mainly because that game looks disappointing. Heck, if I took a picture of Mario 64, did some minor Photoshop work on it by adding a jet pack, you'd think it was Mario Sunshine. I hope that Nintendo (a) overhauled the graphics, or (b) made the water pack a lot more revolutionary to the series than I expected. :smooch:

The simple idea of Link saving someone other than Zelda intrigues me. I wonder if Zelda will have a part in this game, maybe she will be a playable character.

Mario Sunshine, the more I see of this game the less I care about it. I grew up with Mario, and he will always have a special place in my heart (next to the NES) but this game looks odd. I think these current games might be straying too far from the original Mario concept, but it will probably be good anyway.

Metroid, I love Metroid. This game needed a huge 3d update, the original game would not work today. I am very excited to play it, it is the game I am loooking forward to the second most (after Zelda GC.)

I need a GBA! The idea of a co-op Zelda game is enough to make any Nintendo fanboy drool. Maybe I can permanently "borrow" it from a friend, he he he.

Other stuff: I don't care about the new Mario Kart. Kart games are a thing of th past, and Nintendo will need to insert some major extras to make this game worth buying. Mario Party 4 could be awesome if it comes with online play, but I am still not sure about Nintendo's online strategy.

I don't see any third-party titles annouced, so I assume they will be reported during E3. I might actually be able to get into E3, considering I live in the area and have some "connections" *cough*

Anyway, it looks to be another great year for Nintendo, I was expecting some sort of Yoshi title to be announced (I have no idea why.) Beyond that I am very pleased with the lineup.

In the UK, the price was dropped by about £20 a day before release I think.

Yeah, but this E3 sounds very interesting with the playable Zelda game. It'll rock, what else is going to be at E3, anyone?

I read something in Nintendo Official that there are going to be two Zelda games for the Gamecube. One is going to be the one of the CG they showed at E3 (the one with Ganon fighting Link) and the Cel-shaded one.

A Link to The Past is an excellent game, I loved it. But this would be the first Zelda game with a cooperative feature, it sounds really interesting.

I really want to hear about how Zelda is on the Gamecube, all of the reviews in the magazines I read and the websites I visit. I think the Zelda will be a smash hit at E3 and when it's released. :)

The price drop in the UK was £58 pounds before launch, bringing the price down to £122 (sold by shops at £130).
A co-operative Zelda game? I'm interested to see how they set out the game to accomodate for 2 players...

I actually don't think the game strays too far from the original Mario concept at all, besides adding the water pack. In fact, the game doesn't stray away from the traditional formula far enough. Heck, even those chain link fences that Mario interacted with in Super Mario World are back.

The problem is, it looks too similar to Mario 64. Sure, that game revolutionized 3D adventure/platforming, but so many games have duplicated the 3D Mario style, that it has become stale. I'm sick of running around and collecting crap and beating up the same monsters. Zelda and the other titles have evolved and now it's time for Mario to do so too.

I've read this book before, multiple times and loved every minute of it. But, I don't feel like reading it again unless it brings something special to the table. I have similar feelings towards the Crash Bandicoot series, but only on a much greater level.

Yep, Kart games have been waaaaaay overdone. Everyone and their dog as copied Mario Kart's formula. Unless Nintendo pumps up the mulitplayer and gives it a shot of internet compatibility, there won't be to make me buy the title.

Sure, Nintendo could add balls-to-walls secrets, but only so much can keep me playing through the same old formula. "The Big N" might make things interesting, because lord knows they have a way of making their games special, but Mario Kart will definitely need a huge tune-up if it's gonna stand out among the plethora of Kart titles we've seen over the years.

I'm hoping that the necessary changes and tweaks that these games need are apparent at E3.

GameCube PRICE DROP?! Why, why did I not wait till now to buy one?...Oh yeah, compulsive spending. :D

Super Mario Kart for the Cube? *drools* It's a good day to be a Nintendo supporter. As James once said about a handhled Mario-64 "It's orgasmic..."

Ah...Indeed...A good day to support Nintendo..

This years E3 should really be a good one for Nintendo. I can't wait to see a playable metroid prime and really wanna see how the GCNs first zelda title turns out. Also looking forward to see how different mario sunshine will be from its N64 predecessor game play wise.

A co-op GBA zelda game sounds interesting, but I have never been too good at working with other people in video games*remembering all the way back to ice climbers for the NES*

As for GameCubes price drop, I wonder if i can still return the GCN I own now and buy one at the cheaper price.......just a thought...

I think it went more like "The idea of Super Mario 64 on a handheld is simply orgasm inducing." ...But, um, yeah...

Well, I heard about the price drop and the GCN Zelda info yesterday on www.nintendo.com, but this new GBA Zelda is news to me. Personally, I'd love a cooperative Zelda game, as long as there's still a one-player mode. A Zelda: A Link to the Past remake would be really cool, as long as they don't change anything (except for the cooperative mode, of course). I'd want it exactly the same as the SNES game, right down to the sound effect for tapping a wall with your sword... I'm very eager to see how this cooperative mode will be used, though... There are just so many possibilities... *walks off to ponder the endless possibilities of a two-player Zelda game*

Other than the Zelda games, I think the game I'm most eager to see/hear about at E3 is Metroid Prime. I mean, there hasn't been a Metroid game for a long time, since Super Metroid on the SNES. I'm really eager to see how it translates to a first person shooter, from a third person, side-scrolling shooter. That, and I'm also eager to hear more about Metroid IV, which also can't be forgotten. One Metroid game is good, but two is better. :)

As for Super Mario Sunshine, I'm looking forward to finally seeing it in action. Hopefully it won't be really similiar to Super Mario 64 (I don't think it will, though, from what I've heard), but I don't want it to stray too far, either. I'm just going to have to wait and see, but from what I've heard I think I'm going to buy it come this August.

As for Mario Kart on the GCN, it could be very good. At the same time, though, it could just be another kart racing game. Hopefully there'll be online play (they're releasing the 56K Modem and Broadband Adapter this Fall, in the US), which would add something to it. Anothing thing that would be nice is if they put more than four battle arenas in it. Maybe ten, or something like that would be good, but I think four is just too few.

Lastly, I can say that I'm not very excited about Mario Party 4... Online play would make it more interesting, but it'll probably just be basically the same as the others on the N64. I own Mario Party 2, and I've had lots of fun with it... But Mario Party 3 seemed to be almost the exact same thing, when I played it... Unless they change it a lot, I'm not going to be buying it. I'll probably rent it, but it wouldn't be worth buying, in my oppinion, unless they change a lot more than they did with Mario Party 3.

Oh, and it also said on www.nintendo.com that the price of the WaveBird controller was going to be dropped to $35 when it's released, and the normal controller is going to be dropped to $25. I'm thinking that I might have to get a WaveBird, and just sell one of my normal controllers to my friend or something. The WaveBird controller will be released in the US on June 10, if anyone doesn't already know.

Regarding Zelda, I'm not sure if it's A Link to the Past or not.

There have been some shots released which show all-new multiplayer dungeons...now, these could be an add-on to Link to the Past OR they could be part of an entirely new game.

Here's a shot of the cooperative dungeon for you:

Well, the Links in that screen shot sure don't look like the Link in A Link to the Past... I hope that's not how Link is going to look, I liked how he looked in A Link to the Past. He seems too big in that screen shot... He should take up the same amount of space as one of those blocks...

And could you post a link or something so I could see the other screen shots?

According to Nintendo and Microsoft they have both dropped their console prices yet again. Supposedly the Gamecube price is £109 and the XBox price is £132. (this will probably be rounded off if this is true) If this is true, it shows that Nintendo really know how to compete, and they are not making the same mistakes as they did with the N64
