*-- RagnaroK--*
For those of you that dont know, Angel of Darkness is TR in a sort of MGS format, you have the ability to choke, flatten yourself against walls, peak, etc... I dont know what to say about this game at the moment, but the fact that this game can compete with MGS makes it stand a chance. I dont think it is rubbish at all, but at the same dont think its excellent, but the only thing i can say is that it may end up like the game HEADHUNTER, this tried to copy MGS in many ways, but couldnt come through to test it, but the fact that in Angel of Darkness you play as a sort of sex icon: Lara Croft, which may bring it up in the charts, attracting boys, and girls, since you dont play as many girls in action/adventure games. To be honest i dont really like TR games, but i think that AofD should be classed as something totally different, maybe non TR fans will judge the name and not the game. Any opinions? Charles
Okay, well obivously I've decided to merge these threads. I feel that summaries of the past Tomb Raiders will help further an understanding of the latest sequel. Anyway, both threads deal with Angel of Darkness in some way. Hmm, What I'll basically do is post the beginning plots for each Tomb Raider. If anyone wants to take it further, please post the word "Spoiler" at the top of your post in bold. Tomb Raider Lara Croft, daughter of Lord Henshingly Croft, was raised to be an aristocrat from birth. After attending finishing school at the age of 21, Lara's marriage into wealth had seemed assured, but on her way home from a skiing trip her chartered plane had crashed deep in the heart of the Himalayas. The only survivor, Lara learned how to depend on her wits to stay alive in hostile conditions a world away from her sheltered upbringing. 2 weeks later when she walked into the village of Tokakeriby her experiences had had a profound effect on her. Unable to stand the claustrophobic suffocating atmosphere of upper class British society, she realized that she was only truly alive when she was traveling alone. Over the 8 following years she acquired an intimate knowledge of ancient civilizations across the globe. Her family soon disowned their prodigal daughter, and she turned to writing to fund her trips. Famed for discovering several ancient sites of profound archaeological interest she made a name for herself by publishing travel books and detailed journals of her exploits. Tomb Raider 2 Legend has it that when you drive the Dagger of Xian into your heart, you acquire the power of the dragon. Literally. In Ancient China, the Emperor was the holder of this power and with his army along side him, he was a force to be reckoned with. Thus empowered, he staked claim to the vast lands that are now China. His final battle however ended in defeat. While people fell into submission all around him, the warrior monks of Tibet would not relent and courageously fought against his evil. Knowing the poser of the dagger, they succeeded in removing it from the Dragon Emperor's heart, reducing him and his army to carnage. The dagger was returned to its resting place within The Great Wall and safely locked up for all time... Now three parties hold the dagger close to their heart, and all for entirelydifferent reasons. Lara Croft, forever the adventurer, is one of these. During her adventure, she will encounter the other two... Tomb Raider 3 The call for adventure and the mystical treasures has lured Lara to India, where the Infada Stone, a unique, out of this world existence awaits. Upon obtaining the sacred stone, new info began to stream in, hinting the existence of other similar objects of extraterrestrial origin were once found in the icy continent of Antarctica. It was believed that certain objects of this nature had been brought to this world by the crash of a meteorite centuries ago. First discovered by the British sailors of the 19th century, these objects were to be carried back to their homeland. However, a ghastly supernatural phenomenon occured, caused the artefacts to drift apart towards the various corners of the world. Tomb Raider: The Last Revalation The main story begins at the Temple of Set. Lara raids this tomb to obtain an amulet, only to find that, in doing so, she unwittingly unleashes the evil god into the world. Now she'll have to re-bind him into his tomb in order to save humanity. While there are a variety of locations?indoors and outdoors, city streets, desert canyons and abandoned ruins?all the action takes place in Egypt Tomb Raider Chronicles. The story begins just a few days after the ending of The Last Revelation. Lara's body has never been found, but people assume she's dead. After the burial ceremony of Lara, three characters: Jean Yves, Winston and priest Dunstan in their own way think back about Lara. The game consists of four new adventures and bring Lara back in time to Rome, a small Irish island, a hightech building and a Russian sub. Each adventure requires its specific game characteristics. In Ireland Lara has to find her way without any weapons, whereas the Russian sub can be compared to an episode of the X-files. Rome is said to be the classical Tomb Raider action, and in the high tech building the keyword is stealth. As for Angel of Darkness, well I believe it has potential. The main problem with past Tomb Raider games was the frustrating gameplay and stale concept. Finally, it seems like we'll see something totally new with Angel of Darkness. After all, the series really needs to reinvent itself. I've even heard that the game will implement Zelda and Mario-like gameplay to some extent. A lot of games emulate Zelda's targeting system, and it definitely wouldn't hurt the Tomb Raider series to do the same. Over the years there's been talk of adding another playable character to the series and it looks like that will finally happen. In Angel of Darkness, there is going to be a second playable character named Curtis Trent. Supposedly, you can switch between the two (think Oddworld for the Xbox). As, I've said before, this guy's even going to have his own spin-off series too.. It seems like we're seeing a bunch of gameplay styles melting together to form one unique experience with Angel of Darkness, but other series have tried similar techniques and failed. I'm anxious to see if Lara's game will succeed. Trying to emulate something like Metal Gear Solid, Zelda or Mario is no easy task. Anyway, this Tomb Raider game is the first of five in the new story. I hope they don't grow progressively stale like the PSX series did.

Flash
Well, this is good news... I've been a fan of the Tomb Raider series since it first came out, so I'll be happy... Seeing as it's on PS2, I expect they will add alot of things, aside from the obvious graphical enhancements.. Besides, are you trying to tell me a game called 'Angel of Darkness' won't kick ***? ^_^
Guest Deranged Gerbil
the only improvements they will be making to future TR's is the same as previous one's, they'll just make Lara's breasts bigger, one day they will become so big they will fill the entire screen, making it impossible to see the bad guys but WAIT, fear not, for one of her new moves will be her infamous "Bust Attack" watch enemies cower like babies as Lara squashes them with her breasts on a more serious note, the game doesn't look half bad, should be worth the wait

Why? well simple, angel of darkness must have some crappy story line of avenging her farther (it continued from TR4, i know that), where as mgs2 has its more political/patriotic side, walking right over angel of darkness. Ill still get it though. Looks really, really cool
