Transtic Nerve
Originally posted by The Unholy Newt Evolution is the process of life which involves one organism (example- ape) evolving into another (Human) I'm not so sure on Creationism
Evolution isn't quite that... vague.... it involved more the idea of "efficientcy"... ape involving into man is a highly efficent step that is yet to br prooven... but like... yeah... it deals with efficentcy and standard of life. The ancient horse used to be 10 times smaller than that of a modern horse... it's evolved so that it may be more efficient in what it does (whatever that is) Creationism... that involves the idea of something being created... life for example, out of basically nothing. ALL scientists believe in creation of life. For thats the only way it could have happened, but not in the way you think of when one reads Genesis 1:1 - 2:4 or whatever the verses are... There are many theories of creationism.... the bubble theory, the underwater vent theory, the land ocean something like that theory... also and outer space theory which involves like a meteor carrying cells of life lands here, or even the more "non-accepted" theory of aliens... then there's the religious theories which are TONS... every culture basically has a theory on creation... what we call the "Creation Myths"... which can deal with Adam and Eve, Tawa and Spider Woman, to Greek gods and other cultures. it's VERY complex... so is evolution.... James
I just want to point out that none of you seem to know anything about evolution. Evolution doesn't mean ape turning into man...it means many millions of generations changing in tiny little ways over millions of years. Of course it sounds dumb when you say "ape turns into man"...because that's not how it happens lol Each generation changes just a little bit. Just look at how dead trees turn into coal...and how mountains form from volcanoes over millions of years...this is all a process of evolution. No way to deny it. Anyway, just thought I'd correct that for a few people... Out of interest...to the person who originated this thread...what is the purpose of this specific survey? I mean, what subject is it for?
Dan L
1) Gender: Male 2) What do you believe in? Evolution: Yes.. Creationism: Unsure, I do not believe in creationism as in the sudden appearance of man, but perhaps as the kick-start that must have been necessary to begin life. 3) Why? In my opinion, too many people take the bible to mean exactly what it says, I believe that there may be a lot of symbolism in there, as in most books. 4) What is your religion?
Originally posted by James Just look at how dead trees turn into coal...and how mountains form from volcanoes over millions of years...this is all a process of evolution. No way to deny it.
Er... sort of... but trees decaying is a chemical reaction that happens over time, and mountain formations are formed from random eruptions... evolution in living things is due to small changes like those, but also it depends upon the environment alot more, as certain changes are favoured by certain environments. Although, a new theory is that evolution is merely a product of luck.... -------- Here's a point.. lots of you say you disapprove of Western Religions... how many of you disapprove of the religion (i.e. the belief), and how many of you merely disapprove of the organised religious groups (i.e. the church)... Although, a new theory is that evolution is merely a product of luck....
Yes, but they are the same thing. Evolution is a combination of random changes in genetics (over many generations) and changes based on adaption. It is known that evolution itself exists, in the sense that we know that species evolve over many millions of generations -- the fossil record is one of the best examples of this. But we can see it all around us -- why do you think some of the many-centuries-old streets and doorways in Europe are so small? Simply because older European civilizations were physically shorter than today's civilizations. This is also part of the process of evolution. Scientists also discovered that the Y chromisome is actually dissipating with each generation as well...once again, evidence of evolution. It's simply something nobody can deny -- it's 100% proven. The only question mark is that we are still unsure exactly how all aspects work. But having said that, we're still unsure about how the brain works and we are still unsure about how to cure some diseases...it doesn't mean we don't know the function of the brain or the function of the disease. Anyway, that discussion is kind of off-topic...from now on, I think everyone should just stick to answering the survey itself...I'm sure the member who posted it doesn't want to have his survey interrupted by discussion. It's easier that way.
VP-Master
Thanks to those that have responded to the survey so far. If about 5 or more ppl could take it, that would be awesome. Also, please remember to answer all 10 questions. Thx.
