"official nintendo magazine" doesn't tell me much... What is the name of the magazine? Is it Nintendo Power? If so, it has to be the June issue, because I have the May issue and it doesn't have any screen shots of FFX for the GCN in it... I didn't think the June issue was out already, though.

Oh... well, if you had used capital letters in the name, I would have known it was a name... But otherwise, how was I supposed to know?
CAPITALS ARE GOOD :toothy:

Hmm... looks like I'm going to be upgading my PC, so I'll be able to play FFXI... Lets see, I'll probably be buying a new CPU, more RAM, new video card, new sound card... dang, this is gonna be expensive... But, I suppose my computer really will be needing an upgrade by the time FFXI is released. I'm all over that broadband internet connection, though :)

i've got a great idea, why don't we all just sit tight in front of the tv in our underwear for while, then we can wait, yes wait, for the new ff to come out and see how many different systems it comes out on instead of arguing and bickering about it in some forum that is only read by a handful of people every other day...a dn oh god i've gone cross-eyed....

Okay, For the Playsation 2 to be able to play Final Fantasy XI, will you need the Linex thing on Sony's Online store? The thing that costs $199? Also, Could someone list ALL the costs and the total? I just hope what i make this summer ($500) Is enough to buy it all.....

Edit:

FFXI Game- 7800 Yen ($58 US)

40 GB Hard Drive- Unknown, but I would imagine anywhere from $100-$150 price range.

Network Adapter- $39.99 US

Monthly Fee- 1280 Yen ($9.50 US)

Fee per additional character- 100 Yen ($0.75) (I?ve heard from $0.40 to $1 per extra character, but I have yet to see any real info on this.)

Optional Tetra Master Mini-game- 100 Yen ($0.75) (Again, same for above.)

Optional USB Keyboard- 3500 Yen (roughly $26 US, but any USB keyboard should work)

There is also a keyboard supposedly made specifically for FFXI, that goes on sale on May 30th. It is projected to cost 6000-6500 Yen. I would also assume that is a Japanese keyboard, so don?t get your hopes up. (Source: Mamek-int.com, April 25th entry on the FFXI news section)

You don't need the Linux kit for anything, that is mainly for people interested in game development... like the old Net Yarouze PSX.

I've been reading that Sony is thinking about putting some sort of slot on the broadband adapter so that you could use any Hard Drive you wanted with a US/UK PS2. Meaning, you wouldn't need to buy an official PS2 HD set. I'm not exactly sure how that is going to work though.

FFXI is really not worth it. for example, the game features are not very fun to work with including the system. also, the multiplayer story where many people control different characters is just a very bad idea cause disagreements can occurr due to bad moves.

another major problem is that the servers hosting the games are constantly under major problems causing a great inconvenience to users, and to play this game decently, u need T1 atleast, not very easy to get for everyone!!!!

First off, how would you know that the game isn't fun to play? Have you played it? Considering that it's only out in Japan so far, I'm betting you haven't. Secondly, for the online part, that's pretty much a matter of oppinion. Some people will like the idea of playing with tons of other people all together online, some won't. Third, all online games have server problems, mostly when they're just starting out. They get fixed, though, and after awhile they run pretty well. And last of all, no you don't need a T1 for FFXI. Normal broadband will probably be more than good enough, and a 56K narrowband connection will probably work okay too.

Broadband access is incredibly cheap in Japan due to so many competitors and such. It's at least half of what we pay here for normal broadband access. I really doubt most people would get a T1 though. And that is just plain overkill. A T1 can run a server handling like 24 people in a Quake 3 match no problem. Why ONE person would ever need that for themselves I'd never know.

Yes, Square had problems at launch. They weren't ready for the massive influx of people who signed up at once for the game. They have fixed most of these though, and I'd figure by the time it goes worldwide they will be prepared.
