From Gamespot Article
Japanese game giant Nintendo today announced that it will appoint director Satoru Iwata, who is 42, as its new president to replace Hiroshi Yamauchi, who has been at the reigns of the company for the past 52 years. Yamauchi, who is 74, became the president of Nintendo in 1949 and built the small Japanese playing card company into a global game machine maker.
I found it to be extremely amazing that he has done this for so long and raised this amazing "empire". May it live long and prosper.......

Its sad to see him retire from Nintendo, but we should all be happy for what he has done for Nintendo.I too am impressed by the many things he has done for Nintendo, without him Nintendo wouldn't be what it is today.Anyways, I wish him the best for whatever he's gonna do with his life.

As for Satoru Iwata, I know he's going to continue in Yamuchi's steps and continuing keeping Nintendo at its best.:)

Well I've known for awhile, that Yamauchi was going to retire... But finally they've chosen a new president of the company... I wonder if he'll continue to be involved with Nintendo at all, or if he'll go off and do something else entirely? Well, whatever he does, Nintendo will be in good hands with Iwata, anyway.

Farewell, Hiroshi Yamauchi! Thank you for all the great games and systems developed by Nintendo... Without you, gaming wouldn't be the same... *the Super Mario Bros. music starts to play softly in the background* ...*sniff*...

Indeed it's sad that Mr. Yamauchi is finally leaving Nintendo, after more than half a century of running the company.

But Mr. Iwata is a very worthy successor. He understands Nintendo from the ground up and he's very much involved with Nintendo's development operations.

He was a great choice. :)

May he retire in peace, he brought a company from nothing to a gaming giant. For this, he will always be remembered. As for the new president that is moving it, I have heard somethings of this person, and he seems like a good choice to be the next president of Nintendo

I bet to some of the people that knew Mr. Yamauchi that worked with/for him, they will know it will never be the same, but this change will be for the better. I hope...

yes it will be a great shame that Hiroshi Yamauchi has to leave nintendo, especially with the launch of the gamecube. as the GCs future tells, it will be a great success.
mr iwato hopefully wont be bad, heck he could be better, (lets hope so anyway) but from what ive heard about him he should be a great asset to the nintendo team.

I don't think that anyone will be able to fully replace Hiroshi Yamauchi, he was a fantastic president of Nintendo.

Some facts about him:
1. He has only ever played 1 computer game, an electronic version of a popular Japanese strategy board game called go (roughly translated)

2. He never wanted to become President of Nintendo after his father, he ran away but came back to adhere to his fathers wishes.

3. His son-in-law founded Nintendo of America

4. He only barely chose Sigeru Miyamoto (Western Countries call him Shigeru but his name is not spelt with a h) above someone else and sent him to work in Nintendo's R&D department, where he was not wanted, but Hiroshi said he had an "active imagination and some innovative ideas for games."

Long live Mr Yamauchi, he has done a fantastic job at Nintendo.

Yamauchi did a lot for Nintendo, more than many others combined. I really am excited to see how Iwata chooses to manage the company.

The one thing I didn't like from Yamauchi was that he was too stubborn. I hope Iwata's more open to change.

Long Live Nintendo!

go Is supposed to be an excellent test of wit and intelligence, but I have not seen any form of it over here. Nintendo never released it on the NES or SNES, Yamauchi said "it was too irritating, and lacked the cunning of a human player."

He was an 8th-Dan player, which meant he was very good indeed.

That's not quite true. :)

It was actually his grandfather (Fusajiro Yamauchi) who wanted him to take the reigns of the company.

However, Yamauchi didn't want to run the company unless some of his demands were met, including: no other family members were allowed to be at the company (this resulted in the firing of Hiroshi's cousin) and he was to be given 100% control of the business.

Fusajiro Yamauchi reluctantly accepted, just before dying.

And the rest is history; Nintendo is the most successful game company on Earth. :)

Whoops, sorry I did mean grandfather, apologies on that one.
But, his cousin wasn't fired, he was paid to leave.... Yamauchi couldn't stand having family members in the business.
