How you like to be criticised?

Well I just wanna see how you accept criticism. Well I like it when people go "Wow, that's so cool!" but I like it just a bit more if you go and take the(pic/story/peotry) apart and look at all the little things. It really helps, and It DOESN'T hurt my feelings, Its just thier opinion and it will probably help you to improve so why should it hurt my feelings? So, how do you like to be criticised?

I like it when people are honost with my work (Poetry, Stories, Drawings etc) it makes you more prepared for the world. I mean if you wanna become a writer artist or just about anything in life you gotta be ready for rejection and criticism is a nicer form of it :) The only difference is criticism can be used for your advantage not just the criticisers!

My teacher criticises all the kids in my class just to help us with work. I can except it well, but I don't like it when people say my work sucks. That is going to far.

[color=coral]People are usually honest with me (unless they're some butt-kissing yes man lol)...which has its good and bad points.

Usually people are quite happy to tell me that OtakuBoards looks horrible or something like that...but I have come to realize that you just can't please everyone. So as long as the criticism is constructive (ie: telling you how to improve)...and not "thez boardz r horrible! u suk!"...then it can be completely fine. :)[/color]

uhh...... well I suppose I'd prefer to be criticized like any other average human; honestly but constructively. Destructive criticism rarely turns out posititve results, but in some instances it's necessary..... I guess. I have first-hand experience with that. The last play I was in the director was [i]very[/i] critical, and none of you can possibly fathom what I mean b/c you have to know this woman to really understand. Anyway, she would tear us to pieces in the psychological sense, and pissed the cast off all the time. But, the play was supposed to have a lot of anger, a lot of bitter energy. So all the while she was getting us to tap into what the show really needed, and its performance was all the better. Now, that's a rather left-handed way of getting things done, but it did work.

Cheerleading: Even underclassmen were welcome to tell me how to improve, I always appreciated it since I started cheering halfway through my sophomore year, and many of them had been cheering since they were freshmen.

Photography: Ooh, this is a hard one. Criticism from professionals is always welcome, but I find it very painful to take it from people my age or from people who have never done photography. Regardless, I accept it and take everything into consideration.

Art (drawings): Extremely welcome! I take any sort of criticism that's thrown my way about my artwork because more than likely, they're right :p

Writing: I'm open to [i]suggestions[/i] with my writing, especially if it is about the plot. But criticism...I take that in the wrong way methinks. [/color]

i like it, i actually like being slated, the 'looking glass self' easiest that way, however what i have noticed is something like this when it comes to critisism on otakuboards.

i beleive in the good ol' saying " creative criticism " and that you dont go and say " your work BLOWS " you tell them what area's are bad and what area's need work on, although i do get a leeetle bit pissed off when people goto my website and flat out say , " this is a peice of [ censored ] website " when they dont even have one of their own!.

Constructive criticism is good. If I ask someone their opinion about something I've done or worked on, I would expect an honest answer and if that includes criticism, then so be it. It just allows you to improve.
I'm completely honest when people ask me my opinion about something. If there's a need for criticism, then I would express it, however I always give reasons for criticism and offer ideas for improvement. There is nothing more annoying than someone telling you that your work sucks without giving an explanation, and "Your work is pathetic because it just is," is not an explanation.

[color=purple]Personally, I hate criticism. The way I've grown up, criticism is only a fancy way of putting people down. I don't like it, or accept it, well, not often.

When it comes to my drawings, it makes me livid if someone who has never doodle a picture in their life tells me I need to improve. That drives me crazy. When someone at the same level does it, I won't say my age b/c I'm a lot better than many people my age, but when someone on the same level, like Eric-san tells me how I can improve, then I take it and use it to my advantage. If someone better than I am or someone I respect, like Ginny, TN, or James-san to name a few, told me how I could improve, then I would definetly listen to them.

But if someone ever criticised my writings, I would loose my mind. Such is the reason I hate my English teacher. But I'm not going to go there.

I just wouldnt answer, however if they asked me personally i would tell them that its crap! simple as that, i dont care bout constructive critisism if its that bad, the amount of websites i went on when i first started drawing to have comments like that was unbelievable, i occasionally go back to them just to rub in their faces how good ive got :D

.... Well, um... maybe the factor of whether or not I knew them really well would be a big influence. Like, if it's someone I know I could probably be more open to them, whereas if it's a stranger/aquaintance, I'd be more careful not to offend. Overall I'd point out what could be done to make their work better. I wouldn't just say, 'dude, you suck.' I'd be like, 'dude, I don't personally prefer it; but look, this right here could be changed to this, or something like this, and then right there is a small problem. If those were fixed it'd be a lot better.'

I like critiscism, especially in my fanfics(if i drew, i'd like critiscism in that, too). I can take most, if not all critiscism. My fanfics are nowhere near prefect, and I love it when someone tells me what's wrong and how it can be better. I think comments like: "u suck! what you wrote sucks!" I find that pointless. I think comstructive critiscism is much better, and more helpful.

actually, I gave constructive critiscism on a fanfic like that once. What I always try to do is find something positive about the fanfic, piece of artwork(i don't really give advice on art work since i don't know to much about it), whatever. Then I tell them what they need to fix after I state the positive thing about the fic. I always like to re-inforce the good things so they won't take my critisicsm too harshly. I dunno if it works.

my class is like, liesville. they lie all the time. VERY SCARY, AND WE EVEN GO TO A CATHOLIC SCHOOL. but, its sorta a good thought. like a white lie. i'll write a story. most likely it would be about some er....mystical. i pretty much the only person in my class who likes this kinda stuff. i'll have some of my friends read it and they'll say its awesome, even though they hate it and want to rip it apart since its so bad. -_- :( its so obvious when they do it. :cross:

I can stand critism well, but I can't stand it when someone just says "Your work sucks." without a reason. If you're going to give critisism, then I feel that you should have a very good reason. It has always been a legitimate request and more than half the people I know are to ignorant to realize that. (I live in Arkansas. That should say enough.)

I don't like criticism much, but I always ask for it when I'm working on a drawing or something. I'd rather get criticized and have my work turn out better than leaving it as is, knowing it prolly could've been better.

I agree, that praise and criticism should only come from people of greater skill, and it usually does mean a lot more than from someone who you believe is less talented at that subject.

Of course anyone accepts comments, but that does not necessarily mean you will act upon them, as I think was your point. (?)

But what do you do when it is difficult to judge the talent of others, like on the boards? I would find myself asking if I were to take their criticisms or not, and use the esteem of some members as a forebearing to my conclusion of which criticism to act upon.

When my parents try to criticise me, mostly my dad, they make it sound so bad and horrible.
