I know it wasn't anime, but does anyone remember The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest? It used to come on Toonami back in the day when they showed Sailor Moon and Robotech, before DBZ. I used to tape that show. I still like it. :)

I remember that show. I didn't really watch it, but I remember Jonny Quest.

Wow....my first anime...... My first was Teknoman on UPN. *Drools* The greatest show I've ever watched in my life. It was when I was in seventh grade and didn't even know what anime was at the time! Then came Robotech. Its kinda interesting how I got into that as well..... My cable had been cut off for a long time and I didn't know about Toonami until they my cable was re-connected.... When I saw Robotech, I was like "oh no! not another old show!" But then I saw the jets transform.... WTF?!?!? When I made it to High School, thats was when I got familar with the term anime, otakus and such. It was also thanks to Rick Hunter and several other people who helped me out by letting me borrow their DBZ, Macross and all the other anime I saw until today.

I technically don't count as an anime fan, seeing as I've hardly seen anything... Stupid Isolated country -.-

Erm, I guess DBZ kinda started me off... There's no way in hell I'm counting Pokemon... o_O

Oh my gosh, I have so much fun getting all of my non-anime friends to get to watch the stuff. Like Anna, I basically got her started and she used to call it the "disease". And then one day I met this other girl at school who liked anime just as much as me and I was like WOW! So yeah, now I have a few anime friends, and then some friends who just give it a chance. Of course, I don't push it on them as much as I used to, but ah, the memories...

 The disease funny stuff, thankfully the high school I had attended didn't think of anime as the disease.:) Eventually the word got out around my school about the kid with various animes, and some sophomores came out of the wood work and proposed that we should start an anime club, I said yes and became the president! Ironically that anime club is still indeed going strong even a year after I left!:D I'm just glad I was able not only to provide anime fans with something to do, but actually was able to hook some people who had no clue about anime!

-___- Opps getting way off the topic here, must follow my own rules!;) Well thats enough ranting, by the way sweet banner Queen Asuka!:p

Well, i never liked anime. I hated pok'emon and despised Dragonball Z, I basically passed it off as poorly animated japanese crap (could you believe the nerve of me? no i wasnt racist if thats what youre thinking) by 2001 I was sick of pokemon Tv3 has just started playing the Dreaded DragonballZ. heh oneday i was convinced (or forced) to sit down, shaddap and watch. the show Was Dragonball Z and i have been a fan of anime since. Nothing could possibly tear me away from my daily dose of DBZ. :p

~ and the moral of todays story, don't knock it until youve tried it!

I was once considering that we start an anime club at my school because someone has once had a thread in here about one that they had. I thought it sounded like such a good idea. I mean, I don't know how many people there are at my school that would join such a club, but I always thought it sounded like such a FUN idea. Like, every meeting or so, we meet in a classroom afterschool, watch an episode of some series, and then discuss it. It's my dream really...Next year, after this school year, I'll be going off to college, hopefully at the University of Georgia...*crosses her fingers*, and they have an anime club there, I believe. So I'll join it! :)

And by the way Rick Hunter, thanks for the compliment on my banner. Altron Gundam made it for me a while back. And yours is cute, too, with all the Lisa/Rick pictures, although I myself am a Minmay fan. ;)

Ugh, I can't stand Minmay.

I have not found many people in my area who are also a fan of anime. Two of my friends enjoy watching the Toonami stuff, but they seem to be very inarticulate about the series they watch.
"When Spike hit that guy in the face, it was cool."
*sighs* If it weren't for the internet, I doubt I would have become such a fan as I am. One of the best parts about anime is that you can discuss it with other people and hear their opinions.

BTW: Your artwork is wonderful QA :)

I totally agree with that...and if there aren't enough people around you who watch anime, MAKE them watch it...let them borrow your videos and yours books and sit around and watch it and then you guys can talk about what you liked or what they didn't get and see if they are interested in it and stuff like that. The only way to get more people into it is to expose them to the real stuff. Instead of all the scary mainstream stuff...like DBZ....*dies*

And by the way, I don't particularly like Minmei's personality, but her character was pretty. And she was a beautiful singer. I wonder what ever happened to her in the Macross universe...I heard that she was on a ship that got lost in space and no one ever heard from her again. At least that's what I read in Animerica...

-Edit- Oh yeah, and thanks for the compliment on my artwork. :D I have more posted in the artwork forum.

This somehow reminds me of what happened when I had one of my friends over...

We didn't have anything to do, so I suggested that we watch one of my anime tapes. He was just getting into DBZ so he thought that all anime featured buff guys throwing eachother into rocks. We started watching "Vampire Princess Miyu" (yawn) and he couldn't get over the fact that we were watching it in Japanese. But when it was over he still asked if we could watch more of it.

He was my one friend in real life who I could talk to about anime, and then he moved out of town a few months later! I don't even bother watching subtitled anime with my current set of friends, they can't handle it. Can someone please explain to me what is so hard about watching a subtitled movie? The words at the bottom of the screen do not pass very quickly, is the English speaking world illiterate or something?

*runs off to artwork forum*

Some people, me, are just to lazy to read subtitles. There's some anime thats just much better subbed though, VHD for instince. Usually after i have seen an anime series the whole way through (dubbed), i start watching it dubbed in Japanese with English subtitles... I then quickly switch back.

When I was younger I was anti-subbed because I didn't feel like reading it, but then I got exposed to crappy voice actors, and I got more exposed to subtitles, and I liked it so much better. I now regret buying the entire series of Fushigi Yugi dubbed...although subbed is more expensive...I haven't bought any new anime in a while because I'm waiting until I get a DVD player so I'll never have to buy dubbed again. It's so horrible....except Nadesico...the voice overs are cute...:)

How I got into anime...

JC is in his living room watching Thundercats when an ad begins

Has Goku become

blink

What the...?

...a SUPER SAIYAN????!!!!

blink...blink

What the *%&$ is a Super Saiyan?! Okay, that's it, I'm intrigued...

3 YEARS LATER

Ha! What a loser! He can't even hit level 1! Ha ha!

...And so, the young anime terror lives on...

Well at least DBZ was good for something...it's like a gateway anime almost....like those gateway drugs...you get started on the simple stuff such as network anime and then you get into the hard, addictive stuff....that's hard to get and cost a whole lot more money...:drunk: Hmm...that's a VERY nice analogy, if I do say so myself.

You're right, Queen Asuka. That was a good analogy. And it does cost a lot. I just "accidentally" bought 6 Inu-Yasha books in a row, at $17 a piece. Ouch.....that kinda burned a whole in my pocket.... But buying DVDs is even worse....$30 for like 2-3 episodes usually. Being an anime fan is so expensive these days....

 Well anime is not really a big problem for me to buy, especially with a 90% discount on any anime I can basically think of!;)

 Grr Lynn Minmei, the character that you just love to hate! Well in the Macross Universe Lynn Minmei boards the Megaroad 1 during Rick and Lisa's Wedding, and eventually the Megaroad 1 disappears in space never to return again!

:bawl: :bawl:I really wish they follow up that story, I need to know what becomes of my hero Rick Hunter!

I agree there aren't many fans in my area, sigh it gets so discouraging to be one of the only anime fans in NY. -_- Well hopefully when I move to California over the summer, things will be different, but knowing the luck I've had my whole life probably not!:p ;)

90% off, huh? Wow. I wish I had that kind of luck with my purchases. I wanted a laptop before school starts, but I spent so much on anime.....I don't think I'll ever get my computer! I was starting to think there was something wrong with me, having such an obsession with buying stuff, and spending so much, but since QA mentioned it, too, I guess it isn't just me. Phew!

I have spent so much on anime over the past couple of years, my collection costs out the BUTT! I have the entire Fushigi Yugi series, and two of the OVAs (I'm not sure how many of those there are, but there's at least 3 or 4...) and that was 18 videos right there! All at $25 each! And then that's not counting the OTHER anime movies I've bought, and all the action figures, and all the manga, and the magazines, and the merchandise, and the TRIGUN plushie...(Ah, I love my Kuro-Neko...), and stuff like that. I'm going to add it up one day. And I know my collection could be a whole lot more, but I'm waiting to start buying DVDs. Call me behind the times, but I still don't have a player yet, and I'm not wasting anymore money on crappy dubbed anime. Except maybe Nadesico...it's so CUTESY! :)

Hmm....I wonder what costs more, hard drugs or anime? I know that anime is a better price because it lasts forever and you can get that euphoria anytime you pop a tape into the VCR (or DVD into the player...) but drugs only last for that little while...

Good point with the drugs.....

I just added up my anime/manga collection, for fun. And here it is: Manga-$501, DVD-$455, VHS-$675. OMG, it comes to a total of $1,631! Lol! Without all my other models and posters and such. In about a year. Wow. I wonder how much hard drugs cost. lol

I don't know how much the drugs cost, but it's probably more than that because you have to keep indulging yourself more and more and more until you O.D. and die. I don't think that anime fans will ever have to worry about that. :D I don't even want to go add up my collection, but I don't think it's that much. Some of the stuff I recorded off of TV, I have alot of movies that I taped from the action channel and stuff like that.
