amiboshi
Yeah, I don't thing you overdose on anime. The people at the book store I go to for manga actually know me now. o.O The same lady is usually there, and she knows who I am now everytime I walk in. I've tried not to buy anime, but the longest I've lasted is one weekend without buying new stuff. I'm so ashamed. It's like a bad habit! Of course, it's not as bad an plenty of other stuff I could be doing in this world......^^
Queen Asuka
Yeah, anime is a pretty healthy hobby I think. Of course, I don't see how you can buy new stuff every weekend unless you have a very good paying job. I haven't bought any new anime stuff since right around Christmas. I never get any money. And then when I had money at my birthday I spent it all on music because I really wanted to hear Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains and I was craving some good music...and I got some Star Wars, too... >.>;; (YESH, I am a big SW fan...teehee...). So yeah, no new anime for me, and I need to get the rest of the FY OVA series. And I also want to see Yu Watase's other work, Ayashi no Ceres.
amiboshi
I don't have a job. ^^ I get an $8 allowance every week, and frankly, I have no clue how I get a DVD every weekend. It just kinda happens.....and I can afford it.....But I just graduated from 8th grade and got $70 which I just spent on Inu-Yasha books...(Whoops!). I don't usually buy music, because I mostly listen to anime music, which I get in mp3s. Ceres was good. Although after 6 (of 8) DVDs, I decided to sell mine because it's SO depressing that it wasn't something I could watch over and over again like FY. But Ceres is still very good. The artwork is gorgeous, and the love story is almost scary it's so serious. Almost every episode made me cry, it was so sad. Such a dramatic love story.....but it's a pretty cool show. ^^
Kei
Originally posted by Warlock Erm... I can't really remember. Used to not be able to get enough of it, now I wish it would be blown off the face of the planet, even though I still play the RPG. Unfortunately for me, Pokémon was my first anime. I remember seeing the Mt. Moon ep one day on my town's FOX. Then I was blessed with cable and CN. I turned into Toonami one day and saw DBZ, SM, and GW. I was hooked ever since. Rancid
i think it was when I saw DB, then I watched a little of DBZ, that sucked so I got in to other things such as, GW, Tenhci Muyo, Ninja Scroll, etc. etc.
JCBaggee
Hey, did anyone else find out how many earlier shows they watched were animes? I didn't find realize Vampire Hunter D was an anime until I started watching DBZ, and I saw D years about 6 years before DBZ...
Guest visciousviper
It happened one day when I was watching DBZ. It was the first time in a while because I used to watch it in the morning but it kept coming on too early so I forgot about it, plus it wasn't that cool to me then because I thought they just walked around and fought each other. Then Goku got yellow hair all of a sudden in one show (the day I started to watch it for no apparent reason) and I was like....."WHOA, he got his hair dyed". Then they called him a "super saiyan" and I was like, what the heck, he just dyed his hair. So that pulled me in so I could figure out why they were calling him a "super saiyan" and finally after a couple of DBZ episodes it told why and how one becomes a super saiyan and what it all meant and it just grabbed my attention. Thats all I wanted to do from there on out.......watch anime (dbz mainly), but later on I started watching some Gundam and Cowboy Bebop and some Yugi and I thought they were pretty awesome so I fell in love with anime. That was umm......some odd year ago I think, lol.
Queen Asuka
GGRRR!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE??? DBZ IS NOT THE ONLY ANIME SHOW THERE IS! NOR IS GUNDAM, TENCHI, COWBOY BEBOP, OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM SHOW! GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF THE GUTTER AND GO WATCH SOME REAL ANIME!!!!!! READ THE STICKY AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS FORUM FOR SOME VERY NICE SUGGESTIONS AND GET ON WITH YOUR LIVES!!!!!!!! Thank you... Anyways, back to you Amiboshi, I can't believe that it's such a depressing show...but I would like it because it's depressing. And I LOVE love stories, so I would definately get the entire series so I could see it come to it's conclusion. But I'm glad it's a good show! :)
amiboshi
It really is depressing. One of the first things you see is her dad getting a bullet straight through the brain, complete with blood spilling into his eye after he hits the floor. That's not really a spoiler, it happens on the first tape... But it's so into the love story that it's easy to be depressing. Just make sure you don't watch it early in the morning, you're likely to mope around the rest of the day. ^^ (Maybe not, but it kind of took away the spunk in my day...) I looked at the first manga, and I actually liked it a lot better. The characters had a LOT more personality, and like in Fushigi Yuugi, Yu Watase made little cracks about her characters, and even though it was still sad, it was kinda funny, too. That's my favorite. A little funny with the sad. ^^
Queen Asuka
Yeah, I believe that no matter what, a book will always be a million times better than a movie, hands down, forever and always. I really do want to see that series. I have so many funny/romantic comedy series, I need something a little sad and depressing. I have Vampire Princess Miyu the TV series and it's sort of morbid, but not as morbid as the OVAs were. Of course, I only have the first volume, but Miyu already has a group of friends and that takes away from the darkness of the show..
Shy
"Miyu" is such a sad and depressing show. I saw the first volume (they had it at the video store, isn't that cool?) and it really made me unhappy. I had never seen a show where there are more depressed characters than happy and upbeat ones. In most shows, even if the main character is depressed they usually have some funny background characters to cheer things up a bit. Also the show seemed a little tooo much like Sailor Moon in the whole "monster of the week" sense. It would be better if it's storyline were more epic rather than repeating themselves every episode. I could be wrong, the show might get better after the first volume.
Queen Asuka
Well, the TV series is alright, but the OVAs, which came out a while ago, are much better. I've only seen the first volume of the TV series myself, but I liked it. I like depressing things because it counters my happy and cheerful self. Sometimes I need to watch stuff like that so I can mellow out a little bit. But yeah, I liked it...and it was nothing like Sailor Moon...SM was cheezy and it had a redundance of the monster everyday, but at least the plot was awesome and the storyline went someone. Of course, it was chopped up badly for the American version, so I suggest everyone read the manga and forget the nightmares you had from the horrible dubbed version on Cartoon Network....
amiboshi
lol. Yeah, SM manga was much better. Plus "Bunny" was much more elegant there. I saw one tape of Miyu, and it did remind me of Sailor Moon a little. with the monsters everyday and such... I know what you mean about depressing stuff countering the happy side. If I don't get at least a little sadness every week, I start getting giddy. And that's just creepy.....
Queen Asuka
I love the Sailor Moon manga. And Bunny was more elegant. Of course, all the characters were because they were all so much more beautiful...anywho... I like depressing stuff, and I need a dose of it every once in a while. I like indulging myself into some sad stuff. And I still don't understand how the whole Miyu thing is like Sailor Moon...I guess I will be watching that later on today to refresh my memory..I've been watching FY all day long, and I haven't seen Miyu since Christmas time.
amiboshi
That's why I love manga. Everyone is just gorgeous, all the time. I hated Serena's dress (I can't remember her original name now...) when she got married. She looked way too young in the anime. But in the manga, she looked older and really pretty. It's the same in FY. Miaka even looks prettier there, so does Tama. Tamahome and Miaka both look younger in the anime, a lot of the time.
Queen Asuka
Serena's Japanese name is Usagi, which means Bunny. :D I really like that, I think it's the cutest name. I think the reason why manga is like that is maybe it's more mature for some reason. And even though there isn't color, you can put so much more detail into the drawings. I like the way in the manga for FY that Miaka wears different clothes and has different hairstyles all the time instead of the same ol thing over and over, like in the anime.
amiboshi
Yeah. Miaka looks a lot more mature with her hair down than up in those little buns.....and all the guys look cuter. The hair has a lot more detail. whoops, I almost started going into FY again....*sweat drop* But everything looks better in the manga. I wish I could have one of those special full-color FY mangas....but they're only in japanese. ^^ Wouldn't do much good. But when I read manga, I can almost see it start moving sometimes.....it's cool how much it comes to life.
ZeroBlade
Its amazing how that most people get into anime by the influence of others. As I said before, Hunter was one of the guys who helped me get into anime, and Asuka just said she was also helped out by her friends too. A 'disease' , well then time to get other people sick! (Cool banner by the way Queenie) My first subbed show was the Cell saga and the android movie. From there it just went up to macross plus, then evangelion, more dbz, and then its history from there. *Sigh* Its just too bad we graduated and now all my links to getting new anime from my friends are all gone now.....:bawl: I GOTTA FIND SOME OTAKUS AT COLLEGE! Come out! You're not alone!!! Damnit, if I have to start a club....then so be it! The other thing lots of people seem have in common too this watch some the anime the Sci Fi channel had too. I guess this would really be everyone's 'first' anime. Its just too bad, they don't air as much anime as they do back then nowadays and I really miss some of the stuff they had too. I think this had a part in otaku's being in 'hiding' due to the most annoying and absurd question in the world of anime: "You still watch cartoons?" Whenever I was asked this question, I would say yes because I wasn't ashamed of it and really don't give a damn of what others think. I was new to anime but I didn't hide it and thankfully there was others in my school that didn't either like Rick Hunter. It was a great thing when Hunter decided to make an anime club and it was a like a path for others to follow. :bawl:

That's a good way to get started.....O.o I still don't like it when people refer to anime as cartoons. I mean, it's animated, but not like Bugs Bunny, which, to most people, is "Cartoons". I mean, I've never seen Bugs take anything seriously. And Anime is just as realistic as MTV, it's just animated, not live.
Guest Imsirion
I remember when I was little, I'd flip through the channels and catch glimpses of Sailor Moon And DBZ, and I never watched. Than those horrid Pocket Monsters started there Campaign of Terror and I caught on in the 5th ot 6th grade. ( I dont like :ball: anymore, the games are kinda fun though) Then one day at a friends house, we were sitting in his room and showed me some DBZ mangas and I got hooked. I asked him tons of Q's about all kinds of anime and I started watching DBZ in the beggining of the Namek saga. Now, I surpassed my anime friend (it seems hes loseing intrest) and I watch more "UN mainstream" more and more and I'm going to be hooked forever. Amphion
I remember it well. I came home from school one day and turned on the tv. I was flipping thorugh the channels when I flipped onto some sort of cartoon. I was drawn in when I saw some guy in a weird lookinjg robot suit, blow this colony to peices with his gun. It was exciting, it wasnt like that sorry american crap you see all the time. I kept watching. I was drawn into the characters and got hooked. After that (Gundam Wing if you could not figure it out) DBZ came on, for some reason I kept watching and after watching a huge fight scene, I was hooked on it too. Like everything else I find interest in, I start looking them up on the internet. I found tons of info on both and started reading. My researchi s what brought me here. Ever since them I look at anime the way I do real movies. In fact I prefer anime over the real movies. Only prob is around here, there are no places to rent them so I just have tobuy and hope its good. Well thats my story.
Queen Asuka
I don't think manga in color would be as pretty as manga in black in white, honestly. It just wouldn't be the same, or have that Japanese feel to it, because American comics are always in full color. I like Gundam Wing, too, even though it is so mainstream. It has a really good plot and those Gundam pilots are VERY cute...especially Heero Yuy..I used to have the biggest thing for him...ANYWHO...
amiboshi
Oh yeah. The Gundam pilots are hot. I like Trowa... Yeah. Black and white manga is so nice already. But Yu Watase makes her color picures no pretty, too. Her art books are so gorgeous....But you're right. Color manga just wouldn't be the same. Queen Asuka
I've seen colored versions of the FY manga pictures and they are beautiful...maybe I wouldn't mind having ONE book that was in color...:D. I think it's so funny that you and I are always going on and on about FY, but it's such a wonderful series... Anyways, TROWA was definately my second choice. Just gotta love that weird sideways hair and that deep voice...OH yeah...but Heero..in the spandex...was much better.. ;)
