I am sure all of you have already heard of this game, but those who haven't gotten around to looking up on it, i got the following article from ps2.ign.com.
May 21, 2002 - After ages of rumors and suppositions, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is official. The first GTA game to be published under the franchise's new exclusivity agreement with SCEA, Vice City brings the immersion and interactivity of Grand Theft Auto to a new time and place. It's the '80s, the setting is Vice City, "the vibe is glamour, power, and corruption" (Rockstar's words, not ours), and that's about it as far as details go, although more news will be released in July. There is a precise release date, however: October 22.

GTA producer Les Benzies stated, "Although it may appear to be a challenge to develop a game superior to Grand Theft Auto 3, our progress to date on Vice City makes me highly confident that we can deliver a truly innovative game." Kelly Sumner, Take-Two Interactive Software's Chief Executive Officer added, "Grand Theft Auto 3 has become the "must-have" title for PlayStation(R)2 and is appropriately regarded as a landmark in interactive entertainment. We are delighted with the plans for Vice City, and are totally committed to supporting Rockstar's creative efforts and investing in the development and marketing approach that made Grand Theft Auto 3 such a tremendous success."

Expect more news on Vice City for sure in July, and we'll try and dig up a few odds and ends while we're at E3 this week.
Personally i am really looking forward for this one. A rather famous online store is already taking Pre-Orders. My question to all of you is, do you think this game will blow, be a huge success like it's older brother, or will do ok. It seems like it's going to be much like GTA3, from what i heard (but is probably totally a rumor) you can drive motorcycles. Expect this to be almost exactly like GTA3 except for new levels. I highly doubt any update, graphics wise.

This Grand Theft Auto III follow-up will undoubtedly be a success coming off one of the best selling games in recent history.

To be sure, it's not too surprising that we're seeing this ( A big "I told you so", to the otaku's very own Solid Snake, by the way).

The Grand Theft Auto series usually does recieve these kind of updates. When the game ships, I expect something like Grand Theft Auto: London Edition.

Like you said, we'll probably see new vehicles or whatever, but the ultimate purpose of the game will be to expand on its predecessors successful formula.

Honestly, I don't think that we'll see a Grand Theft Auto IV on the PS2. It'll probably take more powerful hardware to truly improve upon the last game.

Agreed. Hopefully we'll see it on X-Box though... Who knows, the SCEA thing really ruins those chances. I bet we'll see IV on either X-Box in '05 or on PS3 (assuming one is released about that time). In fact i wouldn't be entirely surprised if IV would be a launch title for PS3. Hopefully after Vice City they redo the game, instead of trying to play off the others success.

Well, it sure does sound interesting from my perspective. I'd love to check out what it's like....I think they should, maybe, release it a bit later than the precise release date mentioned, just to let GTA:3 settle in.....I think the release date is likely to change thoiugh.

It all depends who is actually developing this game.

Rockstar is publishing, but it doesn't mention a developer here.

Being a spin-off, this could end up being developed by someone other than DMA Design...and thus, could end up to be worse than GTAIII.

But if DMA are handling it...then it could be good.

To me, it sounds like a traditional case of "milking the franchise". But if it is a serious attempt by DMA, then I'm sure it will be fine.

All GTA games work best on the pc, better graphics, more special features, better sound quality.
What was best about GTA3 was the feature where you could put your own music from your mp3 player, maybe you can do it in the new GTA game..it would work well!

Eh, but the controller scheme is usually better on console...much more accessable/easy to use/less cumbersome.

The only thing I'm interested in with PC is possible online play.
Playing GTA3 online would definately work, hopefully it will be released on pc, even the xbox or ps2. A hitman mode would be cool, or car races, there are infinate possibilities.

I can't see GTA3 on line, mainly because it's more of a single player game. Now a game like State of Emergency would be good online but not a GTA title. Another Plus to GTAs on consoles is the fact that it comes out earlier on consoles.

Cool, a new GTA game me hears. MUST PURCHASE! ok, GTA3 was with out a doubt a success but i do believe that if they are going to make this game they will definetly need to tune up the graphics and definetly make the weather time as good as it was in Shenmue, not only that but is this game an add on disk for GTA3 like GTA London or is it an established sequel some one fill my brain with vast amounts of knowledge.

Golgo 13, that won't happen, the game is coming out much to soon for them to have time to do that.

True, i beat GTA3 in about 5 days, i was a little dissappointed, It would be nice if there were more missions too. Heck just a lot of missions with the same difficulty wouldn't be bad, some of the missions in GTA3 were pretty dang hard...

Wow, how can you two say that! GTA 3 was i-m-p-o-s-s-i-b-l-e, and was dead long, it was a real challenge.

But can anyone answer golgo, is it an add on, or a new project from scratch?

It could be considered either. It's mostlikely using the same engine GTA3 used, but it's taking place in the '80s... it's whatever you want to make it to be... at this point in time.

There are cheats for gta3 which make it a heck of a lot easier, I am not accusing anyone of using them ok, I for one didnt use them at all- I felt like the challenge and took it. The mission that I was stuck on the longest was espresso 2 go, thats a type of mission where you cant use cheats much to help you out, its a matter of speed and time.

As for killing people for no reason gotenks, I have to agree with you, its something you can never get bored of, you can sit there and play all day long, even my dad sat down and had a go! I got the game the first day it came out and got tired of it the same day that mgs2 came out.......wow, six months of gta3.....

Yes you may have 'Beat the game', meaning beating all the main story line missions in three days. Yes, that is believable...

But. I highly doubt that you have collected all the hidden packages, done all the unique jumps, done the taxi missions, ambulence mission, police missions & fire missions. Fully completed all of the missions, not just the compulsary ones, mastered flying the dodo & Know all three of the islands like the back of your hand.

Now... Can you truly tell me that you have completed Grand Theft Auto III..?

Once you've reached the last mission you know each island like the back of your hand. "Beat" or beat, you beat the game none-the-less.

The idea of hidden packages is awesome, especially with every ten you get, a reward awaits you in your hideout. There is only one aspect of the game which discourages players to collect all of them, the cheats, people think what is the point of going through all that effort if you could just bash in a few buttons! I hope to think that rockstar regret putting cheats for gta3, and will hopefully not put them in vice city.

As for the cities, its always best to stick up the map (which you should get with your copy of gta3) by your television set, it worked for me, lol!

I have known about the cheats since shortly after purchasing Grand Theft Auto 3. However, the only one I've actually used, is the cheat that allows limbs to be disconnected. My point is, that it's the player's choice whether he/she wants to use a cheat or not. Thus, it wouldn't matter whether Vice City had cheat codes or not.

The choice is with the player. My bet is that there will at least be GameShark codes available to Vice City. Will you use them? It's up to you.

On that note, I'm going to close this topic. This discussion has degenerated into a Grand Theft Auto 3 topic and we've had our fair share. Maybe when more information for Vice City is revealed, we can try another thread on it.

Anyway, I've cleaned things up a bit by bringing back an old Grand Theft Auto 3 topic. If you want to talk about the game, do it in there.
