Thanks for PGC for this info...
During the Nintendo developer's roundtable last week, Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned that the new Mario Kart game is moving along very well. He said it could have been shown in playable form during this year's E3, but Nintendo wanted to focus only on their games due out before E3 2003. Miyamoto also explained that no screenshots of Mario Kart have been shown because they would reveal what kind of game it is.
Can't wait, it's gonna be awesome i know it.

Interesting... very interesting indeed... Well, from that it sounds like the game will be quite a bit different from the other three Mario Kart games. If even just screen shots would give stuff away, it's got to be a lot different! Well, I just hope the changes are for the better. I doubt they'll be for the worse, though, since the Mario Kart series just keeps getting more and more fun stuff in each game.

I'm eagerly awaiting this game, as I'm a big fan of the Mario Kart series. Hopefully they'll do the power sliding the same as in the original and Super Circuit, where you can change the direction you're turning without having to let up on the button... That's one of the main things that I didn't like about Mario Kart 64... That, and making you slow down a bunch if you don't power slide. That sucked, because you couldn't pull off the same cool tricks as in the original, without slowing down... Such as stopping your power slide in the middle of a turn for a bit, so you're facing another racer, then smacking them with a Green Shell, and then resuming your power slide... I could do that almost every time in the original, but I could never pull it off in Mario Kart 64, and if you do you'll lose speed because you stopped power sliding for a bit while going around a turn... Which really sucks, because it'll also throw off your aim with the Green Shell...

I'm really looking forward to this game -- the original Mario Kart demo on GameCube looked utterly amazing...and I can't wait to see what Mr. Miyamoto has planned for the new version.

The N64 version of the game was a major dissappointment, so I really hope that Nintendo are spending some significant time on this new title (which, by all indications, they are).

I love mario kart as much as the next guy, and find it highly addictive for its special features and modes, and most of all its creative crazyness.

I agree desbreko, the graphics were blocky, and i was really uncomfortable with the joypad, it didnt work with car games. I found mario kart advance much more fun and addictive. However, things are going to change with the arrival of GC mario kart, but id like to see more modes to play on though, and a better variety of characters.

Ever since I saw an early video of Mario Kart on the GCN, where it showed Mario and Luigi racing I was totally impressed.I own all three Mario Kart games but the one I enjoy most was the one on the SNES it was just an awsome experience racing against others to win the big-golden trophy, and it was my very first racing game.:)

As for features I would love to see on the GCN version, I hope to see more Battle modes stages, new characters ( It would be nice if Koopa Troopa returned as well), new levels, and if Nintendo ever decided to also have online play, that be awsome.Just imagine racing against others around the globe for the trophy, battling against each other in the Battle mode, etc. But even if Nintendo doesn't include online features, I'm sure it'll be as fun as the originals.:)

I just hope you'll be able to add computer players in the Battle mode. I feel, among other things, the 64 version was really missing that feature.

I agree. . I really liked the N64 version. Me and my good friend Jay would spend countless hours playing vs. each other, and the circuit 2-player mode was really great. I thought the graphics were very nice, and the game was challenging. Granted, it is a Mario Kart game, so the computer will ALWAYS be able to catch back up with you, no matter how much you kick it's butt, but . . well, I suppose in a way that makes it all that more interesting. ^_^ Oh well, I also loved the other two versions of the game as well (for SNES and GBA), so . . just a fan of the series you might say =/

Umm, I never said anything about the graphics being blocky or the Control Stick not being good... I mentioned the power sliding being done differently in Mario Kart 64 than the original and Super Circuit... That has nothing to do with graphics or the Control Stick on the N64.

I'd say I liked the original Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 about the same, just because of the better Battle Mode in Mario Kart 64... 3D levels and 4-player battles are just too dang fun! Overall, though, I like Super Circuit for the GBA best. It plays like the original, has the originals tracks (stripped of a few things, though), and also has 20 new tracks! I absolutely love the new Rainbow Road track in Super Circuit! I've actually beaten the game testers' time on it! And that's making four minor mistakes in the course of the race, too! (I have to give some credit to one of my friends, though, because he adapted my short-cut route, and I'm now using the adapted route).

But anyway, the thing I'd want to see in the GCN Mario Kart, besides online play, would be more Battle Mode courses. Then a couple more characters, or maybe let multiple people be the same character, just colored differently, like in Super Smash Bros. and SSB Melee. I think they'd have to do that, if there's going to be online play. Otherwise, people would get upset because they couldn't use the character that they're good on, because someone else already chose that character.

Although Mario Kart for the GameCube is allegedly being developed by EAD itself, I doubt that we'll get a similar experience compared to the Nintendo 64 version.

Everyone knows that Kart racing have grown incredibly stale. Thus, I expect Nintendo to implement some fresh concepts in this one.

Like the Nintendo 64 version, I know that split screen multiplayer will be included and built upon even further than before. in addition, I agree with anyone who feels that the game should be taken to the realm of online gaming. To my knowledge, no other console Kart title has gone online. Such a feature would definitely pull Mario Kart ahead of the pack. Although, Miyamoto doesn't appear to favor online console titles, I wouldn't count out the possibility.

Moving on, wouldn't you guys like to see the game take on a look similar to Zelda's? Mario Kart is a light hearted game, and the visuals would probably fit this title perfectly.

One other thing that can be done, is expand on the single player experience. Maybe, we could see an overworld similar to that of Mario 64 or Diddy Kong racing and the player could travel to different worlds, interact with various characters and complete goals, in addition to strictly racing.

I have high hopes for this one. If it's not revolutionary on the gameplay end, then it'll be practically useless.

I wouldn't go that far. ~_^

So far it appears that Mario Kart is being developed by NST, with some input from EAD.

Nevertheless, the N64 version was horrible -- it was a big dissappointment to MK purists.

If the developer (whether NST or EAD) can recreate the same feeling as the SNES/GBA versions, while also adding a lot of new features and gameplay options, then it'll be just right.

I don't think it needs to be revolutionary...it just needs to be what MK64 should have been.

*thinks of a cel-shaded Mario Kart* ...Dang, that sounds really cool! Especially for the battle mode, if they had a cartoony look. Cel-shading looks, to me, kind of like 3D sprites, so I usually always like the cel-shaded look. I could go either way, though, since Mario Kart 64 looked pretty good in my oppinion. I think it would work either way, and I'd like either way...

I kind of have to agree with CWB, but not to that extent... If they add more Battle Mode features and maybe some new items and arenas, I think I'd buy it just for that. For me, Mario Kart 64 was mainly a party game that I'd rarely play by myself, except when I first got it. Super Mario Kart and Super Circuit, however, I play mainly for the 1-player game. The Battle Mode on those two wasn't exceptional, though I did play it a lot on Super Mario Kart (it was the first of it's kind, so there weren't any alternatives). Unless they change the 1-player game a lot, I'm probably just going to buy it for the multi-player modes. I'm perfectly happy with Super Circuit, if I want to play 1-player Mario Kart.

Yeah, and if there is no being the same character rule, then there would be about 8 people to a match every time, you know what I mean? But if you kind of think about it, the multiplayer mode is kind of like twisted metal, just take out all the gore, depressing music, and there you go! a more adult version of MK.

A better choice of stages would be really good, and a better selection of cup championships, still with the same 50, 100, and 150cc modes. Another adjustment to the game could be more weapons to use, a good idea would be the water gun from mario sunshine, or the vacuum from luigis mansion, with the elemental attacks. Maybe they could balance out the character stats in a much more spread out way, rather than just speed, weight (cant remember the other one). Nintendo could make this game a whole lot better, especially with the new ownership.

Well, I haven't played Mario Cart in detail other than the 64 version. But from that I would say it was a very good game. But i would like to add computer simulants in the battle mode. I enjoy the batttle a tremndous amount, but no one in my house will play me because i always win (unless every one else go after just me). I like the way they combine racing with fight (in a way).

Hehe, well let me elaborate on this people.

If I were to, right now, list all of the Kart racers out there, I would probably have to triple post. :toothy:

What I mean to say is, that if Mario Kart doesn't do something that sets is apart from the sea of other Kart racers, then why bother?

I mean, it doesn't have to be revolutionary as in "Oh my God, this is unbelievable!" No, what I mean is, this one should revolutionize multiplayer in Kart Racing by having more options and flexibility.

You know, similar to Goldeneye and what it did for first person shooters.

Heck, a unique look or the aforementioned single player expansion would even due the trick.

I'm assuming you mean console first person shooters... Goldeneye isn't anything special compared to PC first person shooters, even back then...

But that's exactly what I'm saying, though! If they don't change anything, I most likely won't buy it. They'll have to add a lot to the multi-player modes to get me to buy it without a rental first. If they don't change it much, I most likely wouldn't be worth buying. Maybe a rental or two, but I wouldn't buy it if it's not much different.

I agree. I got a N64 when they were released. I though that Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were great
But then, i was intriduced to pc games such as Deus Ex and the Half Life series, i couldnt beleive how much better they were.
Nintendo provided me with some great moments like playing zelda, ocarina of time, but pc totally kicks its a**

Goldeneye revolutionized all first person shooters, even those on PC.

In fact, you often find newer PC titles borrowing heavily from aspects created by Goldeneye.

I won't list all the reasons for it now, but it even among game development communities, Goldeneye is considered to be one of the most important games of the last decade -- and the game's phenomenal sales and legendary status tend to go along with that.

As for Mario Kart, I agree for the most part. The game definitely needs to bring something new to the table.

For me personally, I'd be happy if this was just the same as the SNES version, but with next generation graphics. As I personally loved the original (and the GBA version)...and so, as long as there were all new tracks, but the same gameplay dynamics, I'd be completely happy.

Having said that, I don't really feel confident that Nintendo will go in that direction.

Mario Kart on GCN will be different. It will be different to its predecessors in several key ways. I don't know what those ways are yet, but based on conversations I've seen between the media and Miyamoto (and based on the "Nintendo Difference" concept being pushed really hard at this year's E3), I'm a wholly confident that Nintendo is preparing something significant here.

Goldeneye basically invented and popularized the whole aiming at specific body parts idea. In Goldeneye it actually mattered where you shot people, and they acted and animated accordingly. Few games to this day even do that. It was also one of the first games to be something more than shooting. I play PC FPS games more than anything, and Goldeneye was definately a step in the right direction.

A lot of people seem to think that Miyamoto's comments mean Mario Kart GC is going to be cel shaded. Personally, I think it might mean that it's going to become more of an all Nintendo characters thing rather than just Mario characters... Kinda like Smash Brothers.

I just hope it will have some online functions.
