Okay, I'm totally in the mood to discuss this series. I haven't been able to have a decent conversation about it in such a long time. Now, please don't post in this thread stuff like "Oh yeah, I really like that show" and leave it at that. I want some DETAILED opinions....the kind that are fun to read and make you HAVE to reply.

My first thing, isn't Miaka Yuki one of the most annoying heroines? I mean, she has her good points sure, but she's always whining for Tamahome...(of course, I probably would be too, but still...) I think the main thing that bothered me about her was her whiney English voice dubbing. I liked her subbed much better...:drunk: So yah...

Oh yeah, I hate her dubbed voice. It's so obnoxious, and it just kinda pops out. When I read the manga, I imagine her with a normal voice, so I like reading my manga more than watching my dub tapes. But anyways, Miaka is annoying. Tamahome doesn't do anything mean to her, and she repeatedly pulls away from him. For good reason, but she's just so stupid sometimes. I mean, why can't she just accept that she and Yui are enemies? And she said she pulled back once from Tamahome because Yui loved him.....so what?!? Who cares? Tama loves Miaka and she loves him. Yui doesn't fit in there. Even though Miaka's pathetic all the time, I really can't help but love her. When she cried (only REALLY cried, at the right dramatic moment), I cried too. That's what I love about the series. And Yu Watase knows how to be funny. But Miaka could suck it up more, and not whine so much about everything. She automatically needs protection because she just acts so helpless all the time. I don't believe I ever saw her pick up a sword, even in attempts to defend herself.

That's the thing about Miaka, when she first got dropped into Ancient China, she gets jumped by thugs. And what does she do? She stands her ground and defends herself, not doing a very bad job...she even does some wrestling moves on the guy. But then Tamahome comes along, and BAM! She automatically ALWAYS needs some GUY to be there to protect her. And the thing about Yui, I got so mad at her. She shouldn't like the same guy as her friend anyway, and especially to the extent of stealing him away. If they were such close friends, they wouldn't have that sort of conflict. Yui would be supportive and understanding of Miaka and Tamahome's relationship, you know? I would never try to intrude on my friend and someone she was truly in love with...

I know. I just can't stand Yui. She acts like such a brat. She always has that "Queen of the World" attitude. And if she was reading along in the book about Miaka, she would have known about Miaka's confession to Tamahome and everything, but the moment she met Tamahome she started blushing and going ga ga over him. She should have minded of Miaka's feelings for him.

You made a good point with Miaka. I forgot about that fight in the first episdode. She had no one but herself to depende on, and look at what she did! She was doing pretty good for being so outmatched, but the moment she had her Celestial warriors to depend on, she couldn't do anything for herself. The way she acts just says she needs someone to hide behind.

I know, that's something that I always think about, is that one fight scene...but of course, she was very scared and it could have been just an adrenaline rush, but then after she met the Celestial Warriors and realized how dangerous everything really was, she totally backed down from fighting for herself and leaving them to do all the dirty work. That's so dirty on her part. But of course, if I had seven men running around trying to save me and all of them were pretty much SEXY and good looking, strong men...I'd probably want to let them go at it, too...(Of course, make that six, Chiriko is far from being a sexy man...)

And I see, that you yourself are a very big Amiboshi fan. He was one of my favorite characters! :love2:

Yeah, I'm an Amiboshi fan. ^^ He's so cute. And I love Ami and Suboshi's weapons. I like the flute, but Suboshi's weapon really is cool. Those floaty twindle things.....they're cool. ^^

But yeah, if I had all those guys there to protect me, I sure wouldn't stop them. But that doesn't mean I would cower all the time, either. And why is it that Yui has such a bad relationship with her Seishi? I mean, sure she's all snobby and everything, but it's SO different from Miaka's relationship with her Seishi, and I'm just wondering.....why?

Well, for one thing, the Seiryu Seven are almost all evil and corrupt. Nakago only wants her to be the priestess so he can get the wish to become a God, Soi hates Yui because she thinks she's taking Nakago from her, Amiboshi is too busy being in love with Miaka and his brother, Suboshi is so in love with Yui it's not even funny, so he totally hates Nakago. Ashtare died too quick, so did Miboshi, and Tomo was gay so he didn't like her anyway. And Yui's not charming and cute like Miaka, so she can't lure the affections of her Celestial Warriors the same way. At least, that's my analysis of the whole thing.

I like Suboshi's weapon, too. I forgot what it's called although I did know at one point in time. It's really sad how his weapon got turned against him and brought upon him his own death. Of course, it's his fault anyway because he should NOT have killed those four innocent children and their father...that made me cry...

Wow. Good point with the seiryu seven. I cried after Suboshi killed that poor family, too. That was plain cruel. There was no justice in it at all. Tamahome looked so sad, too. I wish Yui would have payed more attention to Suboshi's love. She was so busy being bitchy to love him. It was kinda nasty that Suboshi was killed by his own weapon. It was a death he had carved in his own destiny. He couldn't have honestly believed Tamahome's rage wouldn't kill him eventually. He was totally asking for it.

Yeah, but then you do have to remember, the only reason he killed Tamahome's entire family is because he was so grieved and so sad about Amiboshi dying, which was his entire family, he felt that he had to take his revenge. I feel really bad for him. He was such a sweet guy on the inside...even though he did try to kill Miaka at one point, too. All he wanted was some love and attention like everyone else...and all he loved was Yui and Amiboshi, and he wasn't getting anything from either source. Yui should have fell for Suboshi. He was much better looking than Nakago, even though he wasn't as strong. And he could have supported her with love more because Nakago was just too evil. And he was about her age, too.

Did you get the collectable cards inside the videos when you bought them?

I got the ones from the Ovas. I only have the first 2, since th borrowed the third from my friend. I love that cover with Tamahome and Tasuki. It's so gorgeous.

Yui should have gone for Suboshi. They would have been a nice match, since Yui isn't really as mean as she seems, like in the Ova. Even though Amiboshi was taken from him, she shouldn't have killed Tama's family. To put the same pain he felt after losing his brother on Tamahome was probably the cruelest thing in the World. It was the ultimate revenge, though. Yui is just a strange person. She seemed so nice in the beginning, but she was so twisted and cruel to Miaka. I can't imagine how Miaka felt in such a change of personalities.

Yui's personality and relationship to Miaka is probably the only unrealistic thing in the story. I mean, they were BEST friends. Of course, Yui blames all of her pain on Miaka...like that time that she thought she got raped, she said that Miaka had abandoned her when in reality Miaka had only changed clothes and she didn't know that three months had passed in the world of the book whenever only a few hours had passed in her world. Yui isn't a very good friend from what you see. Friends should stick together no matter what, through thick and thin, always together and always helping one another. I mean, even friends get in fights and stuff, but what she did to Miaka was just a little ridiculous, ESPECIALLY when she stole Tamahome away...

I don't know where Yui found the right to say it was Miaka's fault she was raped. Where the heck did that come from? Just because Miaka couldn't hear her, now it's all her fault? I don't think so..... Yui is too fast to blame other people for her own problems. For having been friends since they were babies, Yui dumped their friendship pretty fast.

And that also surprises me that Yui was so quick to dump the friendship because she was jealous of Miaka. Miaka got a boyfriend before she did and I think that probably killed her. But Yui has always been ahead of Miaka throughout their lives together. I mean, Yui is way smarter and probably way more popular than Miaka. So I guess it just really pissed her off that Miaka got a boyfriend, so then she goes off and gets mad, starts a big huge war, ends up tearing up half of Tokyo and killing numerous amounts of people, and for WHAT? Because of petty jealously over a stupid guy. What a dumb girl she is....

Yeah. But what was really stupid, since she was so mad over Tamahome, that she never saw Suboshi completely devoted to her. I mean.....Right there! A boyfriend for her! But no....she had to have Tamahome. She was so bent in her own vengeance that she ended up missing her own opportunites. She could have been happy, but she wanted to be angry instead, so she just ruined her life twice as much. But I guess that's why she was chosen as the Priestess of Seiryu, right?

Yeah, I suppose that's why she was chosen. Because she was bent on vengeance and so forth. But of course, Nakago helped mold her into what she was. He kept telling her that it was all Miaka's fault and so then Yui just kept hearing that and hearing that, and add when she saw Miaka and Tamahome kiss, and that just pushed her over the edge until she finally believed it. And no wonder Suboshi went off the edge and killed Tamahome's entire family...Tamahome has been ruining his life. He supposedly killed his brother and took away the woman he loved...the poor guy. Then he gets killed by Tamahome and his family. It's really sad.

Yeah.....Poor Suboshi....poor Tamahome, too. But at least Tamahome got the girl...

Nakago is just freaky. He's so good at being bad. I think he could contort almost any soul, especially if it was someone as vulnerable as Yui. Now, did Yui slit her rist after Nakago saved her or before? Nakago really disgusts me. He keeps saying he does things for Yui's happiness, and he's just a selfish jerk. I think he ruined almost everyone's lives in Fushigi Yuugi.

She slit her wrist after he saved her. And he also told her that she was raped when she really wasn't. I'm not exactly sure when she slits her wrist, it could be before or after, but I think it's after, seriously...and then he had to keep her from killing herself. Man, Nakago is one of the most evil badguys, and he's always got something up his sleeve. It's not the same old crap over and over again. He's truly a mastermind of evil schemes. Of course, I think he really felt something for Soi, the way he carried her body around after she sacrificed herself to save him. He probably wasn't capable of feeling love at the time, but I think she could have changed him if only she had the chance. He was only using Yui to get her wish. It wasn't necessarily Yui who was important to him, it could have been any girl if she was capable of becoming the Priestess of Seiryu.

And I think it's so funny that you and I are the only two participating in the this discussion. Oh well. :)

It is funny. It's just us...back and forth....Oh well....It's moving along, at least! ^^

Yeah. Nakago's a major genius of evil plans. Especially the Evil Tamahome plot....I liked that ^^ It was so cruel to Miaka to have Tamahome completely forget their love. I cried when she said goodbye....*sniff*. Nakago is such a calm and precise kind of character. He hardly ever seems surprised at anything. He has plan for everything, whether the previous one worked or not.....it's amazing....

Maybe he could see the future and knew that some of his plans would work, so he always had back up ones...or something...yeah right, teehee..

The whole evil Tamahome thing...I was really upset at that time. Especially when him and Hotohori had their battle in the rain and the Hotohori struck Tamahome down and he almost died. I was like NOOOOOOO...but whenever he came to and was normal Tamahome again, that's when I cried, because he didn't remember anything he had done or how he had hurt Miaka...it was the sweetest thing I ever saw...I didn't really cry when she said goodbye, although it was very sad...her annoying dubbed voice was in the way...:drunk:

lol. I read that part in the manga. I hate Hotohori. He's always getting in the way of Tamahome and Miaka. Like...he thinks he still has a chance. Grr..... Plus, when evil Tamahome came, and he just stuck Miaka in that little room. That pissed me off. Even though he know's Tamahome loves Miaka, he still hugs her and such right in front of Tama.... I was reading vol. 3 last night again, and I noticed he does that. Miaka isn't speaking to
Tamahome, and Hotohori goes up and hugs Miaka. Tamahome's face looks all contorted. It's so funny! But anyways....yeah, maybe Nakago does have powers to tell the future. Sure would explain a lot, eh? ^^

I really like Tamahome because he's so innocent. He's not perverted all the time. He's just really sweet. ^^

lol! It is kind of a long discussion to read at this point.....I don't blame you, Forest Pixie. ^^

I dunno what we were talking about....we're just kind of hopping around. Talking who we hate, who we don't hate. Um....I don't know...O.o

Hope I'm not too late to join in! FY is my favourite series of all time. ^_^

But then, you can't help but question whether or not his actions were justified. Think about it... his entire race was killed, and he watched his own mother die. All he wanted was revenge... so that nothing like that could ever happen to him again.

Evil Tamahome was cool! Also when Tama gets pissed, he looks the best... those red eyes, that silvery hair... ah. ^_~ But not as cool as evil Tasuki in the FY OVA 1. MMmmhmm... FY is full of bishounen eye-candy isn't it?

I remember bawling my eyes out when Nuriko died. I couldn't stop. Also when Hotohori meets his son in the FY OVA... ;_;
