Guest cloricus
Yes you are smarter than me, but not stronger. All I have to say is there should be a standard for men and women not one for women and one for men. And if that is failed they are not admitted. It's a simple solution that puts the best people out there.
The Harlequin
I would jus like to point out, people, that the societies where women hunted the food were matriachal ones. Guess what happened to all of them? That's right, they got taken over by the patriachal ones. So that argument is irrelevant. Raven, men are genetically stronger than women in both upper and lower body. Women are more porpotionally stronger in lower body though. Physical strength is not really the issue. When you're running around with a rifle, aim would be more important. And men have better hand/eye co-ordination than women. Another byproduct of our instinctive past. And I'm willing to bet I know more about genetics and biology than you two do. In fact, I'm sure of it. Strength is not an issue. The distant past is not as issue. Whether Raven is stronger than Cloricus is not an issue. (Funny though) The issue here is that no matter how you look at it, a dual standard cannot be reached. Males and females tend to excel in different areas. It's really irrelevent if one sex is better than the other. It's a symbiotic relationship.
Guest cloricus
But in battle only key area's matter so if women do not excel in these area's the subject should not even be considered. The area's needed. (There may be more.) -Strength -Aim -Agility -Stupidity (You must all was remember K.I.S.S) Harlequin you do not understand the military (Either does raven or I to it?s full extent. But I know more than you, for example the kiss concept. If raven knows what it is you should ask her.)
The Harlequin
Cloricus, I don't have to understand the military. Welcome to the world of logic. And the K.I.S.S. principle is not only found in military organisations.
Ravenstorture
What the hell does KISS have to do with ANYTHING?!?! Least of all the Anzac legend. It all comes back down to Harlequin's previous point - war is stupid. It is the mark of a severly unintelligent species. Other animals do not attack eachother en mass for land and status, or because one of their own was killed by the "unfriendly forces." (well, that sums up the cadet wing in a few words!) Humanity is not particularly smart. This is why we have problems in the world today such as war, and hunger, and aids, and crime, and poverty and divisions of wealth, race, sex and belief. Guest cloricus
Some animals are like that, but then again humans are animals. But this has nothing to do with the topic yay. War is stupid and not needed. -End of subject.
Ravenstorture
Originally posted by cloricus Some animals are like that, but then again humans are animals.
That is why I was comparing humans to animals, not, say, hats. I will bring this subject back to the topic. War is stupid, did the anzacs know that? It that what that last andzac guy was thinking on his death bed? Or was he one of those types of soldiers that like war... because there are people out there who do. Why? I think that the anzacs were probably fighting that war because they thought it was the right thing to do. And was it? I march in the Anzac day parade every year, and every year some old guy comes up to me and rambles on about the "anzac spirit" while I smile and nod down at him. I never have known what the "anzac spririt" was, exactly. Perhaps that is what it is, the feeling of having done something right, or having made a difference. I won't know, however, for probably twenty or so years.
The Unholy Newt
i am the same. I have been marching in the morning service since i was 3 (Dad carried me) and Dawn service since i was 5 or 6. And i have had the occasional veteran talk to me about the ANZAC spirit. Once I think I even shed a tear durind Dawn Service (Yes I do actually have a heart)
Lilac oranges
Originally posted by The Harlequin Alright, this is probably going to offend some people, but I'll say it anyway. The ANZAC legend is the most glorified stupidity around. We celebrate the fact that a bunch of people sat in a hole for a while, then ran in and got themselves shot due to general idiocy on the general's part. How is this noble? How did this sacrafice that proved nothing really help us?
would you prefer we celebrated what the british did or the russians or the americans? Lilac oranges
its not that i'm saying wars a good thing just that if we have to celebrate any part of it its better that its and australian part
Alley Catt
I agree with lilac oranges. I hate war and the pathetic violence that comes with it. But the people who fought in it should be remembered. Especially on ANZAC day because the Australians and New Zealanders fought in a war that would not endanger their land. They fought to protect the land of others. The Harlequin
Actually, I don't believe that the holistic view should be celebrated at all, only the individuals. And anybody who thinks I'm weird hasn't heard nothing until I start with Ed the Sloth!
Ravenstorture
I do believe I have a right to say that Ed has no part in this conversation. The only good thing that can come of war is that perhaps people could actually learn from their mistakes, see the result of such an abhorrance and not do it anymore. But as if that will ever happen in a hurry. People, I'm afraid, just aren't that bright. War should not be celebrated. There is on part of war that is worth celebrating. Not the idea, cause, result, the stuff it brings out in people, the 'improvements' it brings to a country, the bravery, the 'victory', nothing. NOBODY WINS A WAR. "You acn no more win a war than you can win an earthquake." Jeanette Rankin, first woman elected to congress.
