Desbreko
Okay, I got it... There isn't a fee for the UK version of the game, but there is for the US version... I would be pissed about that, except that I don't even have a Dreamcast... :cross: Hopefully there won't be a fee for PSO Episode I & II on the GCN in the US, like I've been hearing... That would be really nice, if I end up buying it... If there's a fee in the US but it's free in the UK, then I'll be pissed, lol. ;)

If Gamecube wants to keep up with their rivals, they will have to be able to stay on their levels to compete, if they dont then theyll obviously be having have a hard time, since samles of the Gamecube may go down, or less than PS2 and xbox, so this is something that they really need to think about at Nintendo. James
Actually, Nintendo will be releasing a first party broadband adapter and dial up modem for GameCube later this year. When you purchase Phantasy Star Online, you'll also need to pick up an official Nintendo BB Adapter/Modem. So, Nintendo will produce the peripheral while SEGA will provide the actual online services and infrastructure. The Japanese BETA was very easy to connect with and ran incredibly well, despite only using dial up at the time. So I don't think you're going to see any problems with this game, in terms of actually getting it online.

James
The thing is, a lot of people complained that they'd be in the middle of the game and suffer from a disconnection. The GameCube beta not only runs with even less lag, but also has far less connection issues. So for those who had the original Dreamcast version, I think they will be pleased to know that they can play this new version with relatively few issues.
Desbreko
Has anyone heard anything about a keyboard for the GCN being released? It seems like it'd be kind of necessary, if you're going to be talking to other people in the game. Actually, I did hear something about a GCN controller/keyboard being made, come to think of it... It was a keyboard with the GCN buttons and handles on the ends, or something like that... I think that'd be cool, but I haven't heard anything about it for a few months.
Guest ProudClod
Heres another problem, for me most of all....if you have one telephone line, and are playing online, and then suddenly someone picks up the phone to make a call, will that interrupt the game? Im having this problem with my internet at the moment, and the only way that I can get a second line is by doing good in school (that will never happen :toothy: ). I read a review of it on IGN and it looks really cool! It's basically a small keyboard with each half of the controller on either end of the board. It does sound fiddly, but it's actually really ergonomic. You can be playing your game and sit the controller in your lap to type a message -- the keyboard also contains all these special shortcut buttons for use in online games. It's the best console keyboard I've seen before -- compact, yet really functional. In Japan, it will be packaged in with PSO: Episode 1 & 2. :)
Red
In answer to your question ProudClod, someone picking up the phone and starting to make a call will give you a connection problem on the game, regardless of the console you play it on. Obviously this doesn't happen on Broadband, it only happens on dial-up modems. You wouldn't be completely disconnected from the game though, just temporarily out of it whilst the modem caught up. It used to happen when I played PSO on the DreamCast.

Im sorry Seph, i dont think I made that clear enough. What I mean to say is that if youre in the game, with other players around the world, and your status is offline (for example, you turn off your connection while in the game because you need to use the phone), and youre not active in the game, will you recieve damage and die? Secondly, thats great news about the online play mode, certainly value for money just like the xbox. I wonder what the PS2s counter attack will be....hmmm. Desbreko
No, you won't still be in the game after you disconnect... So no, you won't be able to take damage... And was that for the US too, or just the UK? I'll probably get it, if there's no fee. From what I've heard about it, it sounds pretty cool. And if I do get it, I'm going to have to get that keyboard/controller! That thing just looks cool, lol. :twitch: It'd be cool to have the GCN controls for playing, and then having the keyboard for typing messages and stuff, too. So far, the only PC game where I've prefered the keyboard and mouse is Quake II (and probably other FPS games too, though), because it's really easy to look around with the mouse. For just about any other game, I prefer a controller.

And how official is this? Being an extremely large fan of PSO, and the Phantasy Star series in general, I'm extremely excited about the new areas and character classes. I just hope Episode 1 & 2 doesn't turn out like the first installment: cluttered with illegit players.
