Anyone in NZ would have known that there recently was a boxing Television event to prevent youth suicide. The fight for life pitted rugby and rugby leauge stars against each other, not to mention Politicians and mystery "psyclones". The average bout was 3 rounds of 2 minutes and all proceeds went to Yellow Ribbon, the Foundation to prevent youth suicide

The Yellow Ribbon, i believe, staretd in america. Have Americans had a Fight For Life?

We have one of the highest suicide rates in the western world. The Rate is dropping, but much work is still needed

I believe the fight for life was for a good cause. what do you think?

I haven't heard of it, but it is a great cause, and I support them fully. If I ever see a charity for it, I will definately donate, because suicide is very serious, and one of the things I hate most in life.

I can only say that I know allot of suicidal people and what ever the organisation is doing, they aren?t seeing any of the help.

The suicide rate is not dropping, it has just been over exaggerated in the past and the real figures are coming out.
In Australia there are 15 suicides and 3000 known attempts each week.

I have not heard of this, but I support the prevention of teen suicide. As Final_Flash said, it does seem wierd to help prevent suicide by having boxing matches. lol. I don't support that part.

I believe I have heard of that somewhere before, or something like it. It just sounds familiar. Suicide is a very big concern. Though I take no pity on those people that commit suicide. Suicide is for those with weak minds; who think that death is the only way out of whatever problems they may have. It is not the only way out. It is just the easy way out. Those who commit suicide are cowards.

What exactly does the organization who runs this Fight for Life thing do to help people prevent themselves from commiting suicide? Is it just counseling or what?

The Yellow Ribbon ehlps individual teens 5throught there problems and they put pamphlets in schools and Fundraise for counselling. The Fight for life is presented in a boxing match, and the proceeds of the 0900 number (automatic $20 donation) go to yellow ribbon. It raised over 1 million last year, I dont know the results for this year.

The ironic Boxing to prevent suicide has been bought up on a talkback section of local radio station Channel Z.

It does seem a little weird.

Counseling I know would help a bit more, but pamphlets would work basically just for those people that think about suicide, but don't actually act upon it. Which is just pointless anyway, since they're not going to do it, it's useless to waste money on them that could go to those who are seriously contemplating suicide. Pamphlet won't work for them, they'll take it and be like "Ooh, paper, I can use this to silt something open."

Hmm, I must say I support this program, for I know many who contemplate sucide. I disagree that sucide is for the weak-minded though. I think the people I know who contemplate things are strong-minded people with a very weak will and are sick of being tortured by society and it's idiotic ideals...
