Dementia is a brain disorder that seriously affects a person?s ability to carry out daily activities. Alzheimer?s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia among older people. It involves the parts of the brain that control thought, memory, and language.

Every day scientists learn more, but right now the causes of AD are still unknown, and there is no cure.Scientists think that up to 4 million Americans suffer from AD. The disease usually begins after age 60, and risk goes up with age. While younger people also may get AD, it is much less common. About 3 percent of men and women ages 65 to 74 have AD, and nearly half of those age 85 and older may have the disease. It is important to note, however, that AD is not a normal part of aging.AD is named after Dr. Alois Alzheimer, a German doctor.

In 1906, Dr. Alzheimer noticed changes in the brain tissue of a woman who had died of an unusual mental illness.He found abnormal clumps (now called amyloid plaques) and tangled bundles of fibers (now called neurofibrillary tangles). Today, these plaques and tangles in the brain are considered hallmarks of AD.Scientists also have found other brain changes in people with AD.

There is a loss of nerve cells in areas of the brain that are vital to memory and other mental abilities. There also are lower levels of chemicals in the brain that carry complex messages back and forth between nerve cells. AD may disrupt normal thinking and memory by blocking these messages between nerve cells.

Sharks don't show any signs of deginerative brain disorders or brain cancer as they grow older. Within a multi-million dollar research center located in a secluded position underneath the waters of the pacific, approximately one hundred men and women, under heavy funding from the National Drug Association, strive to discover an effective treatment for Alzheimer's disease.

Breeding a new generation of sharks with genetically engineered brains, these fish's enlarged brains will provide the right amount of a unique tissue needed to secure a miracle cure for Alzheimer's disease.

Your Mission

Date:: 5/21/03
Time:: 7:21 AM
Pacific Ocean, fifty-three miles northwest of Hawaii

Outfited in wet suits, you are part of an elite rescue squad, sent to inspect troubling disturbances within the facility. The promise of a revolutionary treatment blended with the doctors' headstrong ambition for power, have produced the perfect formula for trouble: Five Gen 1s, and 7 Gen 2s are known to reside in the titanium-fenced surroundings.

Only seventeen doctors are believed to be currently among the living based on recent transmissions. Communication with the base is difficult to maintain due to its position. Caged within titanium fencing, the facility will be difficult to penetrate.

Due to impending danger, you will be equipped with standard handguns and shotguns. Caution is encouraged, due to the supposed fragile conditions of the facility. Thus, aggresive action will be limited and explosives will not be involved in this mission.

He has long black hair pulled back into a pony tail and hangs to about half way down his back held togather with several hair bands instead of a single one, there is however an ulterior motive for the multiple banding of his hair, in one of the bands houses a pair of super dense fiberglass lock picks and another holds several long sharp pins that have several practical uses these items well hidden from view by his thick locks of hair.

Squad History: Tristam had grown up in a military family, he had always been pushed beyond his limits by his father who was a decently high ranking officer in the navy. At a very young age he drew his son into a military life, rationing his food and drink, dictating his lifestyle and training him in the ways of combat. By the time he was 18 he had mastered Thai Quan Do and had become quite accurate with a handgun as well as knowing every protocol in the lower ranks of the navy by heart. Upon his graduation he immediately signed up for the Navy and went to sea, 2 years he spent learning of the sea, ships and marine life until he was approached by a superior officer with the truth of why he was trained so hard as a child. They had seen him as Navy Seal material and when they gave him the chance to join the ranks of the Seal's he quickly agreed. 6 years later he emerged from the Navy Seal training a hardened man, the cheerful yet obediant man he used to be was now a silent structure of rock-like flesh. He had become a killing machine in many ways but he still had a weak spot... His heart. The training could break his mind and break his spirit, but nothing could break his heart. Dissappointed in this development they discharged him from the Navy where he ended up at an emergency rescue organization. That brings this Character to the present, on his way to the facility with the group of people.

Production Rate: 15,000 per year for the next 3 years
Color: Olive Drab
Unit Replacement Cost: $11.94 for the Undershirt; $10.26 for the drawers

M16A2 5.56mm Rifle

Primary function: Infantry weapon
Manufacturer: Colt Manufacturing and Fabrique Nationale Manufacturing Inc.
Length: 39.63 inches (100.66 centimeters)
Weight, with 30 round magazine: 8.79 pounds (3.99 kilograms)
Bore diameter: 5.56mm (.233 inches)
Maximum effective range:
Area target: 2,624.8 feet (800 meters)
Point target: 1,804.5 feet (550 meters)
Muzzle velocity: 2,800 feet (853 meters) per second
Rate of fire:
Cyclic: 800 rounds per minute
Sustained: 12-15 rounds per minute
Semiautomatic: 45 rounds per minute
Burst: 90 rounds per minute
Magazine capacity: 30 rounds
Unit Replacement Cost: $586

Features: The M16A2 5.56mm rifle is a lightweight, air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine-fed, shoulder- or hip-fired weapon designed for either automatic fire (3-round bursts) or semiautomatic fire (single shot) through the use of a selector lever. The weapon has a fully adjustable rear sight. The bottom of the trigger guard opens to provide access to the trigger while wearing winter mittens. The upper receiver/barrel assembly has a fully adjustable rear sight and a compensator which helps keep the muzzle down during firing. The steel bolt group and barrel extension are designed with locking lugs which lock the bolt group to the barrel extension allowing the rifle to have a lightweight aluminum receiver.

Background: The M16A2 rifle is a product improvement of the M16A1 rifle. The improvements are:
* a heavier, stiffer barrel than the barrel of the M16A1;
* a redesigned handguard, using two identical halves, with a round contour which is sturdier and provides a better grip when holding the rifle;
* a new buttstock and pistol grip made of a tougher injection moldable plastic that provides much greater resistance to breakage;
* an improved rear sight which can be easily adjusted for windage and range;
* a modified upper receiver design to deflect ejected cartridges, and preclude the possibility of the ejected cartridges hitting the face of a left-handed firer;
* a burst control device, that limits the number of rounds fired in the automatic mode to three per trigger pull, which increases accuracy while reducing ammunition expenditure;
* a muzzle compensator, designed to reduce position disclosure and improve controllability and accuracy in both burst and rapid semi-automatic fire;
* a heavier barrel with a 1 in 7 twist to fire NATO standard SS 109 type (M855) ammunition which is also fired from the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW). This further increases the effective range and penetration of the rifle cartridge. The M16A2 will also shoot the older M193 ammunition designed for a 1 in 12 twist.

M1911A1 .45 Caliber Pistol

Primary function: Semiautomatic pistol
Length: 8.625 inches (21.91 centimeters)
Length of barrel: 5.03 inches (12.78 centimeters)
Weight:
Magazine empty: 2.5 pounds (1.14 kg)
Magazine loaded: 3.0 pounds (1.36 kg)
Bore diameter: .45 caliber
Maximum effective range: 82.02 feet (25 meters)
Muzzle velocity: 830 feet (253 meters) per second
Magazine capacity: 7 rounds
Unit Replacement Cost: $242

Features: The .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol M1911A1 is a recoil-operated hand weapon. It is a magazine-fed semiautomatic weapon, which fires one round each time the trigger is squeezed once the hammer is cocked by prior action of the slide or thumb. This design is referred to as "single action only." The thumb safety may only be activated once the pistol is cocked. The hammer remains in the fully cocked position once the safety is activated. (Note: More modern pistol designs of the "double action" type will allow the hammer to move forward to an uncocked position when the thumb safety is activated.)
The M1911A1 was widely respected for its reliability and lethality. However, its single action/cocked and locked design required the user to be very familiar and well-trained to allow carrying the pistol in the "ready-to-fire" mode. Consequently, M1911A1s were often prescribed to be carried without a round in the chamber. Even with this restriction on the user, numerous unintentional discharges were documented yearly.

Background: The M1911A1 had been the standard handgun issued to Marines for many decades. Selected weapons were modified in the 1980s to meet the requirements of the MEU(SOC) in lieu of arming them with the M9 9mm pistol.

Personality: The consummate professional. Quiet and drawn inwardly, Christan Thomas is calm and calculating. Though, he has a problem communicating with others, he is always reliable in a sticky situation.

Appearance: With thinning iron gray hair, crimson lips and pale skin, Christian appears to be a corpse stubbornly clinging to life. His pebble black eyes, creased at the corners, tell tales of hardship and loss. Yet, they lack any inkling of emotional attachment.

Of course, he is wearing the Light Weight Cold Weather Underwear Set for this mission.

Squad History: No one is quite sure of Christian's past. Some say he has amnesia, while others remain too hesitant to approach him.

No one knows quite how the mysterious "White Tiger" became enlisted onto this mission. could it be nostaligia? Something personal? A vendetta? Only time will tell....unless he does.

Weapons and Equipment:

2x Silenced Beretta M9 handguns, several 15 round magazines carried on belt

Note: Each of Eric's M9's are specially modified to carry extra attachments that greatly improve the handguns' performance. However, they also have cons to them.

Another Note: These attachments were manufactured by Eric himself, so do not take them for yourself.

1. Snap-On Range Enhancer: Basically a long tube that, when attached, increases the round's speed. The suppressor can be attached onto the end of the enhancer, but this makes it much harder to conceal.

2. Stun Dart Launcher: This attachment shoots a small dart which, when it comes into contact with a living organism, releases a toxin which induces sleep within 6.5 seconds. The noise this attachment makes also gives away the shooter's position. It clips onto the underside of the muzzle.

1x M16A2 5.56mm Rifle , equipped with suppressor and AN/PAQ-4A/4C Infrared Aiming Light, 10 magazines carried in carrying case on back (Think Tomb Raider Movie handgun clip thingy)

Personality: Eric has never failed a mission. He is a hardened officer who doesn't like to be messed around with. People who get on his bad side are physically unable to talk about it for months.

Appearance: Tall, muscular. Not a guy you want to pick a fight with.

Squad History: Eric has been in the Special Missions squad for nine years and has ascended to the rank of Captain. He trains all of his subordinates for months before even sending them into skirmishes. He doesn't like losing and doesn't plan to fail this mission. Oh, and he's one hell of a shot.

Edit: As you may notice, my weapon descriptions are from the same site as CWB's.

Geez. Mention sharks and all the women run away. *shrugs* Oh well . . . someone needs to revolutionize the world . . .

*~*~~``

Name: Mairead Josslyn (Mai for short)

Codename: Lexar

Age: 21

Height: 5'5"

Weapons: Pair of pistols, Desert Eagles, a knife (ah, more of a dagger of sorts), and that happy little harpoon gun. (Ammunition? That?s a whole other story . . . )

Personality: Mairead's attitude tends to get her in trouble, faster than she'd like. Slightly bossy, but quiet. She?ll talk, but not unless she knows you can be trusted. Also, she?s very argumentative. Don't piss her off, she's a little bit trigger-happy . . .

Appearance: (Being a TR fan, I can't help myself) Think of Lara Croft in a wet suit, with blue eyes and lacking the gun belt (Ok, I submit. She has the gun belt only on the more . . . desperate . . . missions), and you've got Mai.

Squad History: Born in London (I trust you all know where London is), Mairead lived a sheltered life, until about 16. Her parents, both marine biologists, encouraged a trip to join in hopes that Mai would want to join in the profession. Little did they know that their decision would have fatal consequences. While working on a project, a close partner of hers was attacked. Mai watched as her friend was eaten alive by sharks, barely escaping with her own life herself. She returned to her London residence the very next day. Leading her parents on, she agreed to go into marine biology, with one catch: she went in Special Missions (on request of another worker from her trip; just after seeing Mai?s friend killed). Her parents reluctantly agreed, and Mai graduated from school, then went on the pursuit of SM. Years later, Mai?s still there (however, her accent?s pretty much faded into the rubbish pile of American speech), and now facing one of her greatest enemies: the sharks.

And I think that wraps this all up.
