Horrors of the Web!!! ::scream::

Well, I decided to start this thread after a nightmare plauged me all this week. Bad part is, it is still at it.

It all started a while back. Several months I do beleive. I downloaded a COMET cursor. That was a big mistake. Well, I did not like how it was popping up every where so I deleted it. It did not have an un-install so i had to do it manually. Well it hid a little bit of itself somewhere, problem in my systems folder or something. It was deleted but it was still hanging on by a thread. About once every other week, it would pop up and say comet cursor was out of date and ask me to update or cancel. Well this has happend for a while. The other day, I was busy and it popped up. I got extremly pissed and jerked the mouse over to it and clicked................and then it happend, a slight error, I had accidently clicked update. Well it brings up a box and starts downlaoding. It had no buttons, you could not cancel it at all. I swing the mouse pointer up to the X in the corner to close it. The button does not respond....it just keeps downlaoding. I knew how much of a pain that thing was when I had it so I was starting to get nervous. I start hitting alt ctrl and delete franticly. The little close program window came up and I searched for it. It was not there. I started to close everything hoping to stop it. I closed everyhting except the one I needed to keep windows running. No EFFECT. Still it set there downloading, I felt like it was laughing at me the whole time. I could not do anything to stop it. Could not close it, could not use end task....nothing. So I sat there and waited for it to finish. It finally did and nothing happend. I thought it was gonna leave me alone. I open everything back up and start to surf the web again. BAM! its in my face with some kind of tool bar on my IE browser. So I close it. I go to the next page, it pops back up. I turned it off again. Then one popped up at the bottom. I was being assualt by COMET and could not find a defense. I searched my files, and can not find a folder or anything that has anything to do with COMET cursor. I disabled the task bar button, but it still pops up. I can not find any way to get rid off it.It has no uninstall or anything. And it is still popping up as we speak.

BY ALL MEANS DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING THAT HAS COMET ON IT. DONT TOUCH ANYTHING FROM ANYONE WHO IS ASSOCIATED WITH COMET.

Well sorry, I hope you did not mind the long story there. Well, thats the kind of horrors I am going through. I was just wondering if anyone had some Horror Stories to share.

And please, if you had the same prob I did, please tell me how to get rid of it.

Man, you can bet those people at comet will get a nasty, profain, and insulting letter from me. Im gonna use every profaine word I can think off........TWICE.

wow :wow: That really freaking sucks. The same thing, but not as bad happened to me with PanicWare. I DLed it, to stop popups, and when it expired, a few months, it kept popping up saying my trial expired. I always hit okay, and a few times I hit the other option, and it still kept happening! There was no uninstall, and there was some file that it said I couldn't delete. I was like WTF?! It's my computer, I can delete whatever the heck I want! I've actually had that problem with a few files. Anyway, after a few months...it stopped popping up, and I've been safe ever since :p

That happened to me with some porn thing once. To make a long story short, I suddenly had a porn icon on my desktop and I couldn't get rid of it. I was about to throw my entire computer out the window for fear of my parents seeing it, but I finally deleted/unistalled it...or whatever I did to actually get rid of it.

Gave me quite a scare :)

Something like that happened to my friend. He downloaded a comet thing too. He just kept getting the update. He liked it. So about three weeks ago he downloads the latest update and it crashes his computer. When he finally got it running again he took it to a computer place to get the COMET thing purged. The technitian can't figure out how to get it out. The guy made a copy of everything on his computer and wiped the system clean. He went through every CD looking for something to do with COMET. He found something on one disk. It was some kind of re-circulating disk cache or somethign. It was a program that re-created & deleted itself every week. How wierd it was... I don't hink it's gone yet either... You might be stuck with it forever Amp.

SON-OF-A-B****!

Thats just the crap I needed to hear....If I had the money I would sue. I think I will call the Screen Savers or something. I know they hate stuff like that. I might can get on the air this way....finally get to talk to Marty....anyway, Since I have posted this topic, it has popped up 12 times. It doesnt understand the command close.... This almost justifies the use of a virus....but I dont want any jail time so I won't bother.

Yea whoever stated about the Bonzi Buddy thing...I HATED that, I hated it with a passion...The stupid..purple...monkey...EVERYWHERE! it was so horrifying it gave me nightmares(ok i'm exaggerating) but everytime i loaded a sit or went into hotmail or msn it'd pop up "would you like to_____" and it was sooo annoying! I tried uninstalling it but it came back, and for some odd reason the bonzi buddy site became my homesight when i would open IE or AOL....pissed me off....Everytime it would pop up it'd say in that annoying electronic voice "Hello. Amber" "How. Are. You. Today?" ARGH! but then I got a new computer recently *hugs it* and If that purple monkey comes back...i'm going to go mad and throw my precious computer out the window (yes thats really how annoying that monkey is).

 Sorry I shouldn't be laughing at this, but to save you all trouble in the future from programs installing that you don't want the easy way to uninstall them is going into control panel on your computer, go to where it says Add/Remove programs, click on that look for the name of that pain in the butt program you don't want where it says add/remove click on that button, restart you comp and say bye bye to that unwanted program, this is Kevin the computer nerd signing off for now! ;)

Halleluja! Everybody hold hands and sing. Comet is finally gone!!!!

Thank you Rick. If you where of the opposite sex I would kiss you. But your not so Im not going to kiss you. Anyway, I knew about that Add/Remove thing but it never hit me to do that. Even when I did do it, It popped up and started saying are you sure you want to delete comet cursor. It was telling me I would be missing out on this and that. FIinally after about 5 pop ups worth of it telling me what I would be getting rid of-which could have been summed up to fit on one page by saying, Bunch-o-s***- I finally seen a button at the bottom of the window that said unistall. I clicked it and its gone.

But now, theres another problem. I have this bonzi buddy thing waiting to go off any moment now, and it doesnt have a little thing in the Add/Remove. No unistall either.

WHERE DOES IT END?!

 Well despite what everyone thinks, I'm not just good for anime info, well for the Bonzi Buddy you will have to go through even more stress! First if the Bonzi Buddy is in that list of Add/Remove programs remove it from there, if not the other way you can get rid of it is this!

First you have to go into your hardrive look for the folder in programs that says Bonzi Buddy and delete that folder emptying it out of the trash immediately! Next up you have to delete all the short cuts that you find in your windows pull down menu of it! Once all the short cuts are deleted you can say good bye to that annoying Bonzai buddy pest!

I nearly wanted to strangle my sis, for installing that in the first place, hopefully if you follow the instructions correctly that I gave you, that will be one less hairy ape on your comp!;)

And how do YOU know this Seph???? lol.

Sometimes even after you add/remove programs COMET or bonzi buddy(I hate them both), it still leaves entries in your registy. This could cause it to come back. So go to download.com and download ad-aware. run it and it will remove all the spyware(COMET cursour left over files, bonzi buddy left over files) from your system. but be careful, if you have kazaa and delete this spyware called cydoor, kazaa will not run. so head over to kazaalite.com and get that. it's spyware free. What annoys me the most about the web is popup windows. I HATE that! Now I'm not plagued with popups anymore thanks to this program I've found on the web. It was free too, and doesn't ask for signing up or anything. I never had a problem uninstalling programs (I'm a computer geek like Hunter:p ). Self uninstalls programs never work anyway compared to the Add/Remove Folder. ANYWAY, what else I hate about the web? Spam, and broken links.

My sister likes to download those bonzi buddy and comet cursor things. I just go in and delete the files every time. I do believe I am the only person that knows where all the files are downloaded to on this computer, lol. Sometimes they'll stumble upon it, but what is really fun is changing the sounds this computer makes for certain things. For example, today AOL ( ::shudder:: ) has this thing for new sounds when you sign on, get mail, and log off. It is in "celebration" of the Scooby Doo movie, and you can get Shaggy saying "Like, Hi!!", "Zoinks! You've got mail!", and "See ya later, dude." Being the big fan of Scooby Doo I am I put those sounds in, meheheh. It drives my sister insane, and my mom could care less. Since it drives my sister crazy it means she doesn't spend as much time online, which means more time for me :p.

Pop ups are bad enough. But when soemthing starts taking over your computer like Comet and Bonzi do, it becomes a nightmare. I think I have rid my computer of all these problems now. I will watch what I download from now on.

Please if you know of more of these intrusive programs, post them up. A list of programs to avoid would be nice.

I downloaded Bonzai Buddy, damn that little guy is annoting. I searched for 3 days for something that would remove it and finally i got it. Damn you Banzai, go to HELL. :flaming: :flaming:
You really don't need a program to remove it that you don't already have on your computer. go to control panel, then add/remove programs. i don't see why anyone whould use it too add programs tho....

and another program to avoid is gator. it is good for remebering your passwords and crap, but it is too damn annoying and is loaded with spyware. I hate those programs that when installing they say "Buy it for 20 bucks or have it come loaded with spyware." that pisses me off.

That is why our parents won't let us download anything off the internet. I haven't downloaded any of the Bonzai Buddies, but I can imagine how annoying they can get (i think). I was going to a web site when suddenly, I'm attacked by a swarm of SPAM! GAH!! They would not go away! One of the messages was an advertisement for a Bonzai Buddie, but I just closed it, but when I did, another thing came up saying "You don't want to do that. Download it" or some other crap. It wouldn't let me close it, so I used the Ctrl Alt Delete to close it. Thank goodness it closed. I hate spam. I'll usually get so much that I'll have to close all the programs to stop it.
