I finally got a chance to rent Ghost in the Shell on DVD... and I was thoroughly pleased! It's was a perfect anime flick, in my opinion.... awesome cell work, beautiful animation, and lots' o sci-fi action! Has anyone else seen this movie? If so... I'd love to see what y'all thought about it. :)

Ghost in the Shell is a very good anime movie, but I never found myself terribly interested in the story. I have only seen the english dub of it, and it pretty much put me to sleep with it's dialogue...

BTW: Ghost in the Shell's sequel manga is being translated into English and should be coming out in the spring for all of those who are into that sort of thing.

I like the flick, and i don't see it as overrated at all. I guess i don't really buy into the hype, that way i don't become dissappointed after seeing the flick.

Hmm... It might very well be overrated. I've never really heard any type of hype about it, so I thought I'd go out on a limb, and see the movie for myself. It's just one of those movies that makes you think... a lot, and I love that. It brought up really philosophical ideas, like what truly seperates human thought from AI... and what if a computer could self-actualize. Movies that make 'ya think and ponder *two enthusiastic thumbs up* !

Well I have it, I saw a few times dubbed and subbed. But it seemed to be missing something. I felt that there wasn't really a point to it. But beyond that it was a great movie. Good animation, the whole deal. Though I did not like the dubbed voices. But as you say it makes you think, and personally I'll leave that up to the school to do. But if you want to think you should go get this movie.

I did enjoy that movie, I think that it was really wonderfully animated and the music was great.

One thing that bugged me was all the female nudity. I mean, you can tell right from the start there's gonna be a lot, seeing as how she's gotta be naked to use that nifty cam-o-flouge, you know?

Well I have to get back to my anime roots. I have went to long without buying a new DVD. Sounds like Ghost in the Shell will be a good one to start my buying frenzy again. Last thing I bought was the fisrt DVD of Eva Series. Think I will go get it and ninja Scroll.

Heehee I own Ghost in the shell :D

I love that film. It's not on my list of favourites although I enjoy it every time I watch it but it's most memerable. I find it's hard for an anime or manga to be my favourite movie over regular stuff like 'The Crow' however it does happen in cases. Mostly I have fave regular films and fave mangas like monster city etc :)

You rented it on DVD?! Hmmm, it's not even out on VHS here.... :drunk: It looks good from the magazine, though I really won't know untill I see it I suppose....
Hm, you are often saying stuff like that...but my local video store has Ghost in the Shell on VHS and DVD.

Maybe it's because you live in Dubbo? lol

Anyway, I personally enjoyed Ghost in the Shell. The animation was superb...and the effects were amazing (I especially liked that water effect, when she was kind of surfacing while wearing those goggles and it goes to first person view...the beading water effect was gorgeous).

Anyway, yeah...I liked it, but I don't see why the woman had to constantly get naked...it was like "we're doing it because we can". I think it kind of took away seriousness from the plot and frankly, I found it to be a little stupid. But the rest was fine by me...I enjoyed it. :)

I just rented the Ghost in the Shell dvd a few days ago because I heard a lot of good things about it, but I can say I was pretty disappointed. I mean....I heard that the Matrix was based off of it (the scrolling green numbers in the beginning and the whole 'jacking in' concept was also in the matrix) and it was from the same people that did Akira (which is awesome), but the whole movie was pretty blah. They tried to make it way too dramatic and it ended up being boring, they'd show 10 min of a bus going by, then a puddle, some stores, nothing relevant to ANYTHING, at least after renting it now I know that if it's on showtime or something that something ebtter is on that I could be watching =\.

I dunno, I think you'll find that Ghost in the Shell is a very artistic movie. It does tend to focus on small things like what you mentioned...but that is to set mood...and sometimes those things act as a sort of metaphor as well.

So I think it really depends how you watch the movie. If you just sit and think about the artistic direction...and the small elements which have meaning...then you will appreciate it a lot more.

I saw the anime movie Ghost in the Shell today. Far and away it is considered one of the best anime films of all time. I, however, came away from it quite disappointed.

Has anyone else seen this? Any other opinions? I know Rick Hunter told me that it's importance was just in being a stepping stone for other anime films.

In my opinion Ghost in the Shell is a great anime. But I do like to why you think it's disappointing. The story is alittle old but beside that it's great to me.
