How many actual Final Fantasy games are there?

I think that Final Fantasy 2 was released released in the U.S. or Japan as Final Fantasy 6 or 4.

And has there been any more Final Fantasy games on the original 1989 Game Boy? I have Final Fantasy Legend and Final Fantasy Legend II for Game Boy already.

Thanks.

I have to say this
FF1=NES
FF2=SNES
FF3=SNES
FF4=PSX originally known as FF2/also in chronicles/ is English
FF5=PSX
FF6=PSX originally known as FF3/ only released in japan
FF7=PSX and PC
FF Tactics=PSX
FF8=PSX
FF9=PSX
FF10=PS2

I own FF Tactics, FF9 and FF7
One of my friends owns FF Chronicles, it states FF4 is FF2 just remade
Another of my friends owns FF2 and FF3
and in a magazine I own, it says FF6 is FF3 and is only released in japan.
The rest are obvious.

If you clearly read my post, FF3 WAS NOT RELEASED IN AMERICA

the final fantasy 3 you have right now WAS america's 3rd Final Fantasy, hence the name, it is actually FF6, under a different name...

Cloud you forgot Final Fantasy Chronicals for PSX
If you people just knew what you were talking about... Final Fantasy Chronicles is Final Fantasy 4, and Chrono Trigger, i have Final Fantasy 4 on my list, but Chrono Trigger is not a Final Fantasy game, so it's not there.... make sence?

FF2 and FF3 were on NES, not SNES. And like Cloud said, FF6 was released as FF3 in the US... And FF8 was released on PC as well.

GEEZ........first of all people,HOW THE HECK DO YOU KNOW ALL THIS??? Second, why are you all fighting over whos right,I know that there are ten final fantasys and some of them were remakes. I also know there were some others made like tactics but how do you know all this stuff about FF3 is FF6 and FF4 is FF2 etc. you are all competing to see who knows the best. oh, you forgot chronicles, you forgot mystics, etc. cronicles is just #4. "#2 and 3 are on nes not snes" So? the guy asked hoew many there were not what, when , and what system, you can just say that in total there are 18 final fantasy games you can buy.

First off, I know all this because I like the FF series, and I wanted to know about the numbering so that I could keep straight which were which. Secondly, we weren't fighting, we were just trying to get it straight as to how many there are. Third, I didn't forget FF Chronicles or FF Mystic Quest; look at the list I posted, they're there. And last of all, I figured he might want to know what the games are, that's why I didn't just give a number.

That post was spam, though, since you're not really answering the question originally asked. This is a thread for answering Parabola-'s question; if your post isn't answering that question, then it's off-topic, making it spam.
