Im a rookie, working my way up:My Final Fantasy Overview

Ok, im sorry to clog up my thread with this useless info. But I have recently started playing the Final Fantasy games, and I love them!

A long ways back I played pieces of 7 and 8, but no more than 15 minutes of them.

But my first FF game Id ever played was FF10, it was so good, exciting, and in-depth, that I couldnt stop playing.

If you are wondering why I was crazy not to buy the games right away, it was because I am a nintendo man, and have never bought a PS1 or 2. After playing 10(I am 20/30 hours into the game), I snagged my friends FF9 to play, now with 9, it wasnt the same, the graphics were horrible and it was hard to see where I was going, I also thought that the characters were a little too childish. Im about 10 hours into the first disk.

After 9 I snagged 7, I started to play and I liked this one, the graphics are simple and easy. The gameplay and storyline is fun! Cloud is a very cool player, but of course Tidus along with FF10 has to be the bst yet.

Ive played FF2 to get a taste of the old school FF also.

Sorry to bore you but I was so happy to become a fan of FF and I just wanted to share it with you.

Just think of this as a Mini Forum for members like myslef to step into the door of Final Fantasy.

I hope you understand my purpose of putting up this thread. And for one last question, I would like to know what Final Fantasy 8 is like, I have only played a little bit which was a while ago and id really like to play it. Can you give me advice on whats good and whats not?

Thanks to all

I'm not saying it is spam, it's just along the lines of it. But yes, it is on the Final Fantasy topic...

About FF8, it's a great game, junction system could have been left out though... play it and find out more for yourself.

We can't really tell you what's good and what's not Krillen, see, cause everyone has different tastes....

there's me who can't stand FF8 more or less, but in love with FF7, and there are others who're vice versa.

So really, when you ask what so-and-so-game-name's like, we can only tell you its system etc.

OK, ignore all the above, I'm just really tired

I'm sure this doesn't count as a spoiler

System
OK, FF9 used a Magic Stone system to build up abilities etc. for characters, right?
And FF7 had Materia...
FF8 uses the Junctioning system, whereby the GFs (Guardian Forces...AKA the Eidolons/Summons) can be 'junctioned' to playable characters, to give them status plusses.
Magic is not in the form of spells using MP, but items, which are 'drawn' from normal monsters/enemies.
These items are also 'junctioned' onto characters' abilities to improve them. Item-junctioning can only take place after a character junctions onto him/herself a GF/GFs.
Certain GF can only give item-junctioning access to certain statuses.
Some statuses can be accessed with some GF, by the GF learning abilities from AP from battles.

Eg 1-
Draw: In a fight, Squall's commands are:

Attack
Draw
Magic
Item

The Draw command here means that Squall can absorb magic (item form, remember) of whatever element the monster is. He will then have that magic stocked up, ready to use in his Magic command, along with any other drawn magic.

Eg 2-
AP: Before the fight, you go to the GF menu, and choose an ability which you want the GF to learn. After a battle, you may receive say, 20AP. The ability you've chosen to learn may need 50AP to be learnt fully, in which case you will need a further 30AP to learn it :p

Eg 3-
Item Junctioning: Some statuses of characters can be improved by adding magic to it. A status may be, say 'HP' (can't remember proper String names). Attaching a large amount of a strong spell to it will boost it immensly, like say 100 (or was 99 the max?) Flares.

OK...I think I've said enough for tonight, I might edit more on if you can be bothered to read all that and understand it, lol

Actually, i'm quite pleased with this topic! It brings well needed discussion to this forum.

Final Fantasy 8, well to sum it up as short as possible, it's really a game where you get to customize you characters to your liking. Any character can be , fast whatever, it all depends how you junction your spells. It's a game worth playing, but it's a pain in the but trying to get rid of all your thinders and crap to make room for new stuff.

I'm like AJ, i cannot stand it! it gfot way over my head when ya had like a zillion types of magic. I mean i beat it, figured out the best way possible to make all your characters rock, but it took HOURS to set my characters up, and learn the best combos and all. I like FF7 a lot better, although it's not as customized, it's a lot better.

If you want a taste of old time Final Fantasy's, i wouldn't reccommend FF2 (a.k.a 4), i'd say play FF3 (a.k.a 6) it's a much better game in all.

Hey AJ, thanks alot for the info, it was helpful in a way, but t gave me the idea.

Thanks Cloud for taking interest in my Topic. I understand you alot more clearly on your theory for FF8, I really like 7 just like your self.

It is very easy and not that complex. The graphics are nice and simple too.

But I have a question, how can FF2 be FF4? And how can FF3 be FF6?

And one more question...(sorry, I'm just really interested in learning more about the history of FF)....What system is FF1 for? And What are the systems for everyone of them? I'm goign to take a guess anyways.........

FF1:NES
FF2-FF6: SNES
FF7-FF9:PS1
FF10:PS2

And wasnt there an FF Chronicles?

To see a complete list of all the Final Fantasy games, go to this thread, and look at my post in it.

As for FFVIII, I saw my brother play it a bunch, and it didn't look that good to me... Mainly because you had to sit around Drawing magic from enemies for so long... I mean, really, I don't want to sit around building up magic, I want to get on with the story!

I dunno, I'll probably play though it sometime, though, since my friend has it on the PC. I can just borrow it, so if I really don't like it at all, I won't be wasting any money. :)

Well for me FF9 has to be the best so far(i have yet to play FF10)

I just love how it goes back to basics which was a welcome change over the abomination that is FF8...Now dont get me wrong FF8 is a lovely game with a great story line and some nice characters...But its whole battle system is the dumps...

GFs and junctioning...ick...

FF7 is always a joy to play as well as Tactics. I havent played much of the old FF games however...I just hope when i finally do play FF10 it stands up well against the rest.

Ive played all of em 'cept for 6, imo in order of just general gameplaying it'd go something like

10
3
9
7
2
5
4
1
8

Where, the games are labelled as the japanese names.

I really dispised 8, its the only game I havent yet completed, I started exploring on disk 3 i think it was, and then just lost plot of the story, it was as though they kept trying to extend a very simple story line and so i lost interest.

*sigh* I can't believe I'm having to post this up again so soon... Take a look at the attachment to get the numbering straight.

That picture you linked to is from a CG scene in FFVI in FF Anthology (that's Kefka in the front, and Terra in the back). FFIII on the SNES is the Japanese FFVI. When they made FF Anthology on the PSX, which has FFV and FFVI, they used the Japanese numbering. So, FFIII on the SNES is the same game as FFVI on the PSX. Likewise, FFII on the SNES is the same game as FFIV on the PSX, which is in FF Chronicles. The only difference between FFII on the SNES and FFIV on the PSX is a couple CG scenes added to the PSX version and a new, better translation. The only difference between FFIII on the SNES and FFVI on the PSX is a few CG scenes that they added for the PSX version.

SNES FFII = Japanese FFIV
SNES FFIII = Japanese FFVI

PSX FFIV = Japanese FFIV
PSX FFVI = Japanese FFVI

really? I wonder y they put it on there websites then, ok i believe you

no, but the chances of someone coming round and catching me within 24 hours has got to be soooo low it might as well be legal... o_O

besides, on another note, they've stopped selling the early ff, so they must have become freeware, and i do know that its then not illgal ... :D
