According to GamePro, there will be quite a few titles worth looking for. I've taken the liberty of slicing up the games into catogories, so you can just skip to the certain ones you want. :)

Remember, this is from GamePro June 2002, "E3 Expectations". Here we go.

Nerdo Says:
1. BloodRayne, Final fantasy XI, Devil May Cry 2: Devil Never Cry, Red Faction 2, Star Wars Bounty Hunter!

2. Dragon's Lair 3D, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets!

The original Dragons Lair was good, but I can't imagine playing another one and enjoying it. Woohoo, great games coming out!!!

Pffft.....obviously Kingdom Hearts, Red Faction 2 looks cool from what Ive seen.

Ive already got Tekken 4, so I need not worry about that, what else is there? *looks carefully through the list....* ah! Tenchu 3, must get stealth game, in my opinion, it can be better than MGS. Angel of Darkness...hmmm....thats a must get!!

I will never look forward to a Mortal Kombat game, never, they make me sick.

I'd like to know where they got Sonic the Hedgehog from, because judging from the sales of Sonic 2 on GC (which I think are better than on DC) and what Yuji Naka has said that seems VERY unlikely. I guess we will find out in July when then unveil Sonic Adventure 3.

Personally I am not excited about most of these games. Movie games are almost always crap. There has yet to be a good Mummy game, so I don't expect anything from Scorpion King.

I have always hated Tomb Raider, and it's horrible control scheme. If they fix that in Angel of Darkness, I might try it. As od right now I couldn't care less.

Red Faction 2 could be good if they make destroying things actually useful. There wasn't much use to blowing things up in the original. I think I needed it a total of maybe 5 times. It was a gimmick more than anything.

I'm going to keep a look out on Evil Dead, even though the first game was crap. I love that movie.

I'll most likely get DMC2, Auto Modellista, Rygar, FFXI, Kingdom Hearts and Tenchu 3 (assuming it isn't as crappy as Tenchu 2). Bounty Hunter sounds promising, especially the way Jango uses both hands for his weapons. People that actually spent time with it seem to think it was very impressive considering how very early it was. Bloodrayne is still failing to impress me as it seems to have bad control issues and the graphics are bland.

Also, as of right now Deus Ex 2 is cancelled for PS2... I guess they don't feel like recoding the lighting and such to make a PS2 and GC version right now. It sounded like they might port it to those two systems after the PC and Xbox versions are done at the least. Personally, I'd get it on PC anyway.

And how can there be an Oni 2? Didn't Bungie make the first one? MS owns them now.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter looks nice, but if LucasArts' recent track record serves as an indication of things to come, I'll be looking forward to the title with a bit of trepidation. It's almost criminal that George Lucas allows the Star Wars name to be drug through the mud as it's been.

According to what I've read, the gameplay is straightforward and feels similar to the Xbox Obi-Wan. The ability to fly and the arsenal of a bounty hunter might make this title slightly more interesting, but I doubt these slight alterations to a poor formula will do much to save this one.

I'm still eager to see a successful Star Wars game make it's way to the Playstation 2 though.

One of the most amazing looking games on that list, has to be Superman: Shadow of Apokolips. The visual presentation is almost up to par with that of the animated series it's based on. I hope that the horrible Nintendo 64 game, based on the same series, doesn't turn away fans from what could possibly be an exceptional game.

Of course, I am also looking forward to Devil May Cry 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, Tekken 4, Final Fantasy XI, Red Faction 2, The Getaway and Blood Rayne.

The scary thing is, there are tons of sequels on the market. Some of them are positive, offering nice variations to the original formulas, while others expand on what made the original so popular.

Devil May Cry 2 should have no problem on the market, because Capcom heads will clamor for anything that's put out, with Resident Evil going to Nintendo's camp.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 might prove that Acclaim is shooting itself in the foot by converting it's Dave Mirra Franchise to an "Adults only" status. With it being the last title developed by Z-Axis before Activision takes over the company, this isn't much of a battle anyway.

Red Faction 2 will face stiff competition. When the original appeared, the only true competition was Time Splitters, which turned off masses because of it's multiplayer-only appeal. I expect Red Faction 2 to pull out it's biggest trump card in the Geo-Mod technology. While that feature was previously a nice idea, I feel that it was used to a limited extent in the original. Hopefully, we'll see more inventive ways of using it.

From what I've heard of Tomb Raider 4, the game is not coming along well. Critics of the game have claimed that it looks strikingly familiar to the other Tomb Raider games. Although I hoped for more, I can't say that I'm surprised.

When it comes to Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, I'm looking at it's development curiously. From what I've read and seen, the series seems to be moving in a different direction (and trust me, it needs to move far). Boon's probably realized that the shock factor just isn't there anymore. Solid gameplay mechanics are what it's going to take to win back fans of the series. By implementing the ability to alternate fighting styles on the fly, I'm hoping that the gameplay will get a dose of the depth it needs. In short, this game will be hit or miss.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter looks interesting. LucaArts has had a pretty good track record lately -- games like Rogue Leader (developed by Factor 5) and the various flight games on PS2, have garnered relatively strong critical praise.

Universal: I'm not looking forward to any of Universal's games (at least, the ones that have been announced).

EA: Lord of the Rings might be interesting, but I doubt it will be very good. James Bond will probably be average...so I might check it out.

Infogrames: I'm not very familiar with any of these games. But once again, movie-based games often aren't particularly good. So I'll wait to reserve judgement.

Titus: See above.

BAM!: I don't know anything about this game...

Activision: Minority Report and Blade 2 would make awesome games, but I really doubt that the developers will do these franchises justice. Activision has been a little questionable over the past year or so, in terms of the quality of its releases.

THQ: Not interested.

Encore: Once again, not interested.

TDK: Aquaman? Hm, not interested so far.

As far as sequels go, there are a few that I'm looking forward to.

Hot Pursuit 2, Rayman 3, V-Rally 3 and Final Fantasy XI are probably the bigger ones.

Devil May Cry 2 might be interesting, if they fix up a few of the original's problems. As with Onimusha, DMC felt like a remix of Resident Evil...the controls were vastly different and the action was much more intense, but I really didn't find DMC to be the huge game that everyone said it was. It was nice, but it wasn't outstanding.

Same goes for Onimusha. I think the first Onimusha was such a cash-in on RE...it was so similar, but not as good, because it was far less scary...had a very poor storyline and characters and lacked any real sense of depth. I think Onimusha is massively overrated.

I'm somewhat interested to see the new Mortal Kombat, primarily because the original series was just so awesome.

It was such a shame that lately (particularly with the horrible MK4), the franchise has been dragged down so much.

The original Mortal Kombat was really a revolution for fighting games in its day, not just for its graphics or violence, but for the fact that it actually included some kind of original storyline...which previous fighters hadn't really done.

MK3 (and UMK3 in the arcades) was my favourite. I really hope that the new game tries something new...while retaining the atmosphere of the originals.

Sports games: Pass...I dislike all of them.

RPGs: FFXI is interesting -- I want it, provided I get it on PC.

I really want Xenosaga as well. And RPG Maker 2 would be very nice. :)

There have been too many Star Wars games out for all consoles, some good, and some bad. Like you said before in an earlier thread, they are all mainly hit or miss games. I guess that Lucas Arts stronger point in the Star Wars series were really the ship battles, Id have to say that they are the best of their kind, yet they have a lot of work to do if they want their "light saber battle quests" to live up to it.

Star Wars game have had good times, and bad times. Many of the better ones have been released on the PC, and these turn out to be the least popular ones. Lucas Arts need to think this series through, to learn from their mistakes, if they combined the good points of one Star Wars title to the good points of another, then they might be able to revolutionise the series, revolutionise the genre for that matter.

Exactly ProudClod.

LucasArts is essentially milking the franchise and releasing an over abundance of mostly average or substandard games.

Star Wars Jedi Starfighter, Star Wars Racer Revenge, Star Wars Super Bombad Racing and Star Wars: Starfighter, ranged from good to poor.

In all honesty, most of those titles weren't really worth my money. Star Wars: Star Fighter was enjoyable, but it's sequel didn't really impress me much.

Rouge Leader for the GameCube and Jedi Outcast for the PC were probably the most notable highlights in LucasArts' recent releases.

Conversely, let's not even attempt listing the problems that plagued Obi-Wan.

Anyway, I guess I'll take this opportunity to mention two other games that I'm looking forward to, but forgot to list previously.

Both Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus look to be coming along nicely and seem to be promising, titles. I've made threads on them, in case anyone's interested or hasn't noticed, lol. ;)

Hopefully, they'll be able to pull a Moses and part the sea of sequels to find some success. :therock:

From what I hear (not confirmed) is that PS2 RF2 will indeed have multiplayer. That's the word on the gaming streets.

Yes, RF's Geo-Mod... How I love that... Except for one thing. You blow a hole in the wall. You move over two inches, and blast the wall. This time, it only scratches the wall. Ugh. Hopefully, that little bit will be cleared up.

Reign of Fire is going to be based off of a movie that'll open over here in about a month, I guess...Look here for more info.

And I'll be looking forward to: Jurassic Park: Project Genesis, James Bond 007 in Phoenix Rising, Red Faction 2, Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, Tekken 4, and GTA4 whenever it comes out.

What I won't be looking forward to: Everything else.

Because GamePro only did a selected few articles on a certain few games. Simple as that.

In any case, Blade II might intrest me, but from what I've heard, I shouldn't waste my money. Then again, I still have to actually GET a PS2...:shifty:

I can see some very promising titles here, especially in the sequels section.

I forsee Devil May Cry 2 being something similar to the likes of its succesor, DMC. I guess I'll rent it out and complete it then, lol :toothy:

Tenchu 3: Wrath of Heaven looks as if it could make it up there with the likes of MGS2, and Deus Ex. If the dialogue is improved then I guess I'm in.

Tekken 4 is no problem, since I'll be getting it tomorrow with a Japenese ps2. Hopefully the UK version will have the occasional glitch problem solved.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance looks as if it can revolutionise all Mortal Kombat games, it may even be able to influence Thrill Kill, and Wu-Tang.

Sports games dont really interest me that much, so I'll skip that one.

Final Fantasy XI comes as such a great dissapointment to me, especially the fact that you can only battle against monsters and not against other players.

I really cant wait for Kingdom Hearts to be released. If I only i could speak Japenese.......that'd be the day....

Devil May Cry 2, Sonic, Red Faction 2, Armored Core 3, Robotech, Megaman X7, Zone of the Enders 2, Socom, MGS2: Substance, Xenosaga, and FFXI. Thats basicly it from what I can remember off the top of my head. Of course I have other games on others systems too, its just that it really sucks we have to wait to at least Fall to play these games. :(

I'm with you, I seriously doubt that anything that major in SEGA's corporation would be produced for any system other than GameCube. However, no more adventures will be made. If you have not already heard, SEGA plans to take Sonic back to old school. Does this mean it will be an advanced 2 dimensional system? That is not yet known.

I am mostly looking forward to all of the promosing sequals.

Devil May Cry 2 is a must buy, considering I have recently played the first and the gameplay is astounding, not to mention the story and visuals.

I have heard great things from Onimusha and I don't deny that the sequal is going to be a killer. I have yet to play it, but now that the prequal has gone down in price, I just might buy it.

Red Fraction 2 looks like an even better version than the first, of which I can't wait to play. This is yet nother sequal to a game I have yet to play but have heard great things.

I have Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit, so this is, like, Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit 2? Weird. Anyway, I loved the game beause of the fast movements with your car, and I hope that, in addition to an upgrade with visuals, that there are more cars and tracks to play with, as well as the option to be a cop. It's been way too long since this developer produced a title from this series.

I have played Midnight Club, and I must say, a quite inducing title. Can't wait for that sequal, which will be even better.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2? Give me a break! I already have it on my dreamcast and it is said that the two systems have the same graphic bit.

Tekken 4 is going to be great! I have Tekken 3 and I'm sure it's worth it to get the next title with all the sharp visuals and cool extras. Besides, it's been way too long since I've played a Tekken, and that arcade verion of the 4th last winter got me geared up.

Although I have every other game in the series, I am sure that I want to get Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 because of the major differences hat it promises. Ahh, free skate in a world not unlike GTA3.

Eww, Final Fantasy XI. The whole online buisness, in my opinion, will ruin what ha made Final Fantasy last so long. It may be an over-all good game, but it does not deserve it's title.

Mortal Combat: Deadly Alliance looks good, but only since it's been ages since I've played a Mortal Combat game. LOL, it has one blind character named "Blind Gi."

That Lara Croft sequal will ruin it's title by going under a new genre. But that's not always a bad thing...

Oooh, The Mark of Kri is supposed to be a good game. In fact, game of the month in EGM!

Thank you for reminding us of such great titles that we can look forward to. No one can get tired of that.

Yea, you just about said it for me.
But does anyone know if the Sonic game will feature Chao raising? My friend has a GC and I am hooked on raising Chao.
I really hope so!!
Also, what is up with being able to skateboard in MGS2: Substance? Sounds kinda stupid to me, some of the screenshots looked OK though.

Believe me, Tekken 4 isn't all that great!!! I own it along side a Japenese PS2.

I guess the main problem would have to be the games technical disfunctions, for example, Tekken 4 has by far too many glitches, which are caused by the "enclosed" environment, causing attacks to hit a person, but inflict no damage.

But on the games more positive side, it has a great storyline, the family feud continues! there are also a great range of characters, each with their own unique moves.

Well, since that Choa raising is a part of the mini-games in Sonic, and tend to give more feel to gamers, the answer would most likely be yes.

I'm sorry if I sounded over enthusiastic about the idea, but it's just that it has been too long since a true Tekken title. I've played the arcade version, and the graphics are really good, and the game play is...well, it's as always. But even so, I still like my Virtua Fighter better. :)

Tekken 4 hasn't impressed me as of yet. But then again I have always preferred 2D fighters and VF.

As for Sonic... Well Sonic Adventure 3 obviously wasn't announced at the Sega show. But GC is getting the orginal Sonic Adventure and Sonic Mega Collection (which has nearly every Sonic game other than Spinball, Sonic Fighters and some Game Gear versions). Don't see why Sega would release nearly every single Sonic game created on GC and then turn around and putt he next one on PS2. But whatever.

Red Faction 2 could be good. The problem with the first one, was that other than a few early areas, the whole Geo-Mod thing was next to useless. It could be cool if done right, espeically multiplayer. I would like to shoot the ceiling above my friend and kill him that way haha.

And personally, I think Max Payne was the most overrated game of last year. So I couldn't care less about a sequel lol.
