Keanu Reeves' acting

Now, I'm not going to bad-mouth the guy or spread ugly rumors, but Keanu Reeves' acting isn't exactly spectacular. In fact, it's pretty bad. It's not bad enough to distract you from the plot or anything, but ask any veteran actor and they'll tell you that he could be better.

Right about now, some of you are probably thinking back to his performance in The Matrix. Now, I'll admit by the time he made The Matrix, his acting ability had improved, but I want you to think back on some of his other movies. What did he look like? You might notice that he always has a look on his face like he's either in awe, confused, or both. I'm serious, watch "Speed." He was actually perfect for the part of Neo in "The Matrix" because throughout the movie, Neo was in awe and confused.

Now, before I get yelled at, I just want to say that I liked Speed and The Matrix and I can't wait for the next two Matrix movies. He isn't a terrible actor, he's just kinda bad. It's his lack of facial expression and vocal tones. His movies are good and I respect him for getting his. It's just that he should be so much better by now.

...or... maybe I just associate him with "Ted" too much.

I don't think much of anyone thinks Keanu is a good actor lol. Somehow he just got lucky, and a lot of people recognize him... so he sticks around.

I don't know how anyone would ever cast him as some super hacker like in the Matrix. I see him and all I think of is Bill and Ted. I can't help it. It almost seems as if he is that idiotic in real life.

I wonder how he got so far, and Alex Winter didn't

Hmmm, I think that he was also the director of the movie. Do any Matrix fans know if I'm correct or not?

I agree that Reeves is a horrible actor. I'm not going to suger-coat anything. He's just plain bad. I don't think of Ted when I see him, I think crap. But that's just me.

THe Wachowski brothers (who also wrote the entire trilogy) directed the Matrix and it's two sequels. I think Keanu Reeves is ok but that's only because I've only seen the Matrix and the 1st Bill and Ted movie in their entirety. Everything else I skipped over. He was perfect for Neo and Ted (cause of that whole surfer dude persona he has) but everythin else I can't judge.

I don't particularly mind Keanu Reeves acting, its nothing special though he has made some good films, like Speed and The Matrix, as was previously stated....

:mrt: Mr. T: Speed was the shiznit, but that foo matrix film was nothing but effects and crap, I outta run them foo directors over with the A Van!

The Matriz wasn't all effects. If you get past them it had a well-developed plot. I think most people didn't get it because they don't have enough of a Sci-Fi mind (Like mind) to get past the flashy effects. And am I the only one or does anyone else think that all the acting in the Matrix did seem a bit forced, like the actors had no idea what they were talking about (not dissing one of my fav movies, but even I can point out some flaws with a film).

Well, I've only seen Keanu Reeves in 'The Matrix,' hence, I don't find him all that bad of an actor. Since that movie is my favorite movie I've seen to date, he is, unfortunate to most here, one of my favorite actors. :)

I think he did great in 'The Matrix.' He played the confused part perfectly, as well as the hero at the end. True, he didn't have that many expressions to deal with here, but that's a perfect atmoshpere of the movie.

I will probably get a lot of criticism here for saying this, due to the amount of individuals that are basically saying that he sucks. But I say, bring it on. ;)

*whew!*
When I wrote this thread, I was afraid Keanu Reeves actually had fans on this board (ha!).

Anyway, it would be funny if the actors had no idea what The Matrix was about, even while they were filming it. That'd probably be why no one's saying anything about the sequels. ;)

I always have wondered why the guy who played Bill in "Bill & Ted" never got as famous as Keanu. It's not like Reeves was a better actor. I guess he really did just luck out.
