GhostofSalvtore
Not sure how many WWE fans are at this board but I would like to find out, has anyone been anticipating the arrival of the next installment to the Smackdown series, Smackdown 4 Shut Your Mouth(The Rock's cathphrases are getting kinda dull) but I would hope it has somethin that would separate it from the other Smackdown games, even though I know it will still retain its arcade style and won't ever go to simulation, but I would hope that they would sell their moves just a lil bit better, I don't want to have to put someone threw the cage in HIAC and they would just jump back up immediatly, but we'll just have to wait and seee. What would you hope they changed from the previous smackdowns and maybe somethin that they would add.
Charles
I'm happy that there's another wrestling fan on the Sony board. :toothy: Wrestling games have been the bane of my existence lately, lol. WWF No Mercy was such a high point for the genre, with it's engaging gameplay and front end. Meanwhile, WWF SmackDown on the PSX was looking to be a promising series. When SmackDown 3 arrived on the PS2, I was extremely disappointed. Features such as interactive commentators were omitted, while new additions that actually made it (crowd fighting) were disappointing. Even the visuals showed a clear lack of effort, with the overall package looking eerily familiar to the PSX versions before it, complete with washed out colors. To give credit where credit is due, the animations were better and the game ran smoother (60fps), but we all know that Yukes could have and should have done better. What I've seen of SmackDown 4, has given me mixed feelings. The character models have double the poly count and the women finally resemble their counterparts. Also, like Wrestlemania X8 for the GameCube, the roster is fairly up to date (even with Austin being removed and HBK being included). Crowd fighting should be much improved as well. No longer will the surrounding fans in the front rows be a bunch of horrible, two dimensional, bit mapped sprites. I know that the models won't look stellar, but compared to SD3, they'll be gold, pure gold. As you mentioned, the core engine will remain modeled in the arcade style. Thus, the selling of moves is still off. Recent videos clearly show wrestlers jumping straight up again. This leads me to ask what the use of weapons are. Yukes has gone out of their way to hype up the new weapons moves. But if they don't hurt, is there really any point in doing them? Is there any point to knocking someone off the Titan Tron, only for them to jump right up, unscathed? My overall opinion, is that the game shows promise. Yukes should just take the time to tweak the gameply a bit. The CAW feature from SD3 was a high point of the game and will be even better in SD4. If THQ doesn't deliver with this one, I'll only be renting it though.
GhostofSalvtore
Well for one they took out crowd fighting I hear. And I do know that Austin is out, but he was a big part of story mode almost all of it, and the CAW for me was almost to in depth they looked a lil funny when I made myself in it. They also have said that they were going to keep it the way it is,but make it more user-friendly(for people like me) and I like the Smackdown's and it would be perfect, in my mind if they would sell their moves and if you were able to defend your titles in exhibition. If any wrestling game would do that then it would be good for me, because Wrestlemania X8 had the selling of moves but didn't have a good CAW and you couldn't defend your title againt the CPU, but I am sure the next installment of that will be the best because out of RAW,SD3,and WMX8, WMX8 was the best IMO Also I would like to make a recap or a little review of RAW and SMACKDOWN so I think I will put that in the TV,Music, etc board
Charles
So, crowd fighting is gone now? I'm not surprised, lol. When talking to my friend, who is also a big wrestling fan, I always joke around that Yukes removes at least thirty percent of what they originally promise.
and the CAW for me was almost to in depth they looked a lil funny when I made myself in it
I love the depth involved because it is much more organized than SD2's. With it, I created perfect clones of RVD, Hogan, Nash, DDP, Goldust, Hurricane Helms, Scott Steiner and Hall. My favorite CAW was No Mercy's though. Although it wasn't as deep as SD3's, it was really easy to put out a quick, respectable version of my favorite wrestlers. The selling of moves in wrestling games really is lacking as of late; I'll agree with you there. RAW for the Xbox had some horrible timing. Often times, I would pin my opponent and they would get up before me. :worried: I would really like to see Shut your Mouth's style become more sim oriented, but Yukes seems to thick to change their ways. Wrestlemania was even worse than SD3. The number of possible front grapples was really thin and the control scheme was frustrating. Hopefully, SD4, Raw 2, and Wrestlemania X9 will iron out the issues plaguing them.
GhostofSalvtore
Yeah well you have to point out all of those were 1st generation games if yuo have seen the improvements from RAW to RAW2 you would see a great change because RAW had no gameplay options and the new RAW will have all new matches, but I do hope that THQ won't get our hopes up too high like they did with SD3.
Yeah, I'm very lenient with the Raw series. Anchor had the task of designing an new engine from the ground up, complete with detailed character models, animations and what have you. Thus, they had an excuse regarding slim options. SmackDown 3 on the other hand, used the same basic gameplay as it's PSX counterparts with little innovation. I know that THQ can deliver. Let's hope that they start with the fourth game in the SmackDown series. :)
GhostofSalvtore
Yeah, but if they are going to keep the same engine that's based on arcade rather than simulation, then I don't think they will ever deliver the game seems to be more of a multiplayer free-for-all, I think that the Wrestlemania series has the most promising future of all the titles because the wrestlers actually do sell their moves and thats what the WWE is all about. Is there any other WWE fans out there.
Sephiroth
I am a WWF fan, I refuse to call it WWE, lol.... The only game I have liked in the Smackdown series was the second one, released on the PSOne, it had everything a wrestling fan could want, excellent neverending storymode and great multiplayer modes.... Unfortunately the story mode in SD3 absolutely sucked, it ends in like, 5 minutes from starting it.... I hope SD4 is gonna have a good storymode this time, otherwise I could end up chucking numerous stuffed toys at the screen....

I hear that they will make smackdown 4 better they also said they will add new things:)
GhostofSalvtore
Smackdown 4 is like a more enhanced version of Smackdown 2, there is now a season mode which spans 2 years, and there is a variety of matches and the CAW is more user friendly. Also supposedly its graphically better than RAW from people's opinions but I do think its getting there. Remember that double posting is against our rules.
