Avril Levign

She's okay. She has a different kind of sound than the stupid Britney Spears crap they play excessivly on radio. (BS is coming to concert here and it's like the local radio station has turned into a BS marathon...)

She has a nice mellow sound, and she's very pretty, but I'd say that was about it. I don't think she'll being going far. Of course, I'm not into pop, so no worries...

No. I do not enjoy her music. This one girl I know tried to convince me that she's punk by sending me some songs. I did give each song a chance and listened to them hoping at least one of them would be interesting, but nay, they were not. And like amibasuki said, I believe she's just going to be a fad... Like most things..

Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so I won't complain if anyone doesn't like her.

I think she's ok. "Complicated" is pretty catchy, but I'm afraid she's not going to go any farther than this unless her next single is 10 times better.

Hey look at me, I'm Avril Levign, I'm going to make fun of a guy who is going preppy by writing a POP SONG! I know there is supposed to be a deeper meaning to this song, but even the "deeper meaning" is shallow and pointless.

I think the rest of her songs are poppy garbage. She is just capitalizing off of the success of my fixation (more like infatuation), Michelle Branch (so hot....want to touch the hiney). Anti-Britney Spears Chic Rockers are the trend right now, unfortunately it is as bad a trend as boy bands are.

how anyone could think her music is anywhere near punk is beyond me.

yeah, I've noticed the anti-typical pop star trend thing too. once everybody's tired of it, record companies are gonna start signing performers who are totally extra poppy to make up for lost time.

oy....

At least she looks good... lol.
The funny (yet sad and annoying) thing is that she tries to dress punk by wearing preppie clothes. She's really trying too hard to be "punk" it's funny. She's like a conversation peace. Making fun of her is so easy. She's all "I'm gonna wear tight faded jeans and a striped shirt so I'll be punk! I'll get them at Old Navy too!" It's like, just wear some plaid, flannel pants and a generic tank top and try to stick with darker colors so you can at least look somewhat punk. But then we'll just call her a poser... hehe.

lol. AHHHH you guys are mean. I've only seen her once in Maxim Magazine (magazine of the Gods, or just us lonely men) but i only saw her face and she looked pretty good. Her song sounds like a younger Alanis Morisette song but without as much rage.

Yup, that's us.

When did anyone say she was ugly? All we said was that she was trying to hard to be "punk-ish".

What kind of crack was the writer on? She couldn't compare that wannabe to Alantis Morisette. Alantis' rage was what made her songs great. They had meaning, unlike the "don't be preppy, yet I am!" message that Levine gives.

Avril cannot be even closely compared to Alanis Morissette.

and while some of her old stuff might be somewhat angsty, she didn't write it or sing it just because it was 'the thing' at the time. and anyone who has listened to more than her singles on the radio would know that she's not all about 'fck the world' or whatever. even for the ppl who have only heard the singles, Head Over Feet doesn't sound angsty or violent, does it?

not trying to badmouth anyone, just for the record. just got a liiiittle ticked that a poppish performer like Avril was compared to Alanis Morissette... >.<'

Has Avril ever actually said she was punk? It seems like you're taking her reference to "preppy clothes" to mean "I'm punk" just because one person thought she was. Punk rock and Avril Lavign never crossed my mind in the same sentence and I don't know anyone who thinks she's punk. I always said she was "pop rock."

I like her song. It's very catchy. Like Endymion mentioned, I don't think she's trying to be punk at all. I wouldn't run out and buy her album, unless I like her other songs. She seems talented, but I'd like to hear how good she sings live on stage.

she is pop! and my sister lovesssss her. Look, she yells she dresses like you but better! How come you don't look that cool?
At least you guys agree that she is not remotely punk, her clothes...maaaaaaaaaybe, her sound? nooooooooooooooo
What makes her punk? I thought punk was about not caring about what people think or whats cool or trendy. Im tired of hearing why don't you dress like her she looks like you but nicer.
and where you think she bought her clothes? Old Navy, or some mall. I shop at Target (clearance rack Yippeeee!), thrift stores, and only at hot topic if they are having a big sale, their stuff is too expensive. What happened to making your own clothes? that rocks too, i just have no tolerance for posers. At my school they totally have the wrong idea, the skaters run around making fun of the other freaks and they hang out with the jocks! They're worse than the preppies. When they wear Blink or Sum 41 shirst i just want to strangle them!

Not only does she try to have an alternative look to it, but just take a look inside her biography section thing, the few sentences are this: "Anything but ordinary. That's putting it mildly when describing Avril Lavigne. A skater-punk, a dynamic spirit, a true wild child."

So I'm not just saying she's trying to be punk just because of her clothes. She's not even a "skater-punk", nor can she even look like one.

.. It's too bad her site doesn't have a guest book of any sort. It would amuse me to flame the hell out of her and watch her take offense to it.

That's why I phrased my statement the way I did. I asked whether or not she called herself punk and said it "seems" like you're jumping to conclusions. I wasn't quite sure (and didn't feel like looking for her website or anything) so I just took a guess at it. I wouldn't ask a question like that in sarcasm, and if I didn't, I'd have used a smiley with rolling eyes.
