Guest Fly-T
Originally posted by Sensei-San Now take a look at Snake's adventure, on the Tanker, it is full of action, stealth, and has the right amount of codec calls, not too long, not too short. Also, the fact that Snake can access very few weapons in his adventure makes it very challenging for the player. This obviously gathers enough points to sink Raiden in the MGS series, and to put Snake right back on top.
And, don't forget the cool music. It makes it seem like you're really in a "sneaking" mission. I wasn't feeling the music of the "Plant" mission

Apparently MGS2 Substance will actually have quite a few new additions -- including quite a few extras within the main game itself. By being able to play as Snake all the time, there will be a lot more dialogue and some new gameplay sequences. I've read that there will actually be quite a few new additions. This is partly why I haven't yet bought MGS2. I might buy Substance instead.
SephirothNIN
Spoiler Alert further down. I personally couldn't stand Raiden. Why would anyone send in someone so wimpy ANYwhere? He's so clueless, he sees a guard and it's "Colonel, there's a guard there, what do I do?!" And then if he sees one patrolling or....sleeping it's time to call the colonel again. Also I don't see how if Solidus was made from the strongest parts that Snake was made from, and how Solidus beat the crap out of anything, how a bozo like Raiden could best him, and in swordfighting too! Ugh not to mention the whole last half hour of the game's story with the "beings that came into existence" and crap, was pretty stupid. Before that tho the game was awesome, if only the story was better. Seems like the largest chunk of the game was diffusing the stupid pointless bombs. >=\

However, one must understand that the character himself is very capable. Honestly, if we were to go as far as to compare ourselves to Raiden, very few real people would be capable of doing his job. Especially with his other half constantly contacting him over personal problems. Personally, my problems with the Raiden character are associated with the aforementioned constant interruptions and romantic involvement. I'm not against romance in games, but the subject matter surrounding this game's atmosphere doesn't call for it. Romance in Final Fantasy X? I'm all for it. Romance on a covert mission, possibly involving nuclear weaponry? No way. It's been a while since I played the game, but if I recall correctly, the President of the United States was being held hostage. If that is the case, why on Earth would Raiden's superiors allow someone even remotely emotionally close to him be involved in the mission? The mystery surrounding Raiden is one of his positive aspects. Once we learned of personal matters that we shouldn't even been subjected to, this mystery wavered. When the game was finished, I felt that I knew more about Raiden than I did Snake himself, lol. Konami should have introduced us to the character and allowed fans of the series to become acquainted with Raiden before basing an entire game on him. At least Metal Gear Substance will allow us to interchange characters; a feature that should have been present in MGS2: Sons of Liberty. GhostofSalvtore
Yes, also the character Raiden may have had more combat experience then Snake, with all the things he did when he was a child. But still I didn't have a problem with the character Raiden but I have only played MGS for the PS adn maybe for the people that played all the MGS games have a more appreciation towards Snake then I do.
