No-Name
well I see a paintball thread and to my surprise we have some paintball vets here who know what theyre talking about. I'm currently trying to decide if I should get into Airsoft (Paintball is less fun than it used to be) and this is what I know so far: -The guns are modeled after real guns, down to the very fine details -If not wearing proper protection it hurts worse than paintballs -Almost all states allow it -Guns ranges from $300-$900. -Some paintball fields will allow you to airsoft while others wont Anybody else know anything that could help me out? Fall
Well I know it's fun! :excited: .....actually, it's fun until you get hit. I was lucky enough to win a holiday trip (off a show called "The Footy Show" here), and on it we got a free game of airsoft at a paintball course. All the gear we had to rent out though, so that was the down part of it. Though if you like paintball, I think you'll like airsoft just aswell. Corey
At the risk of sounding dumb, imagine that :naughty:, what exatly is airsoft?
No-Name
Airsoft is, as we have partially described like paintball in the fact that there are two teams and there is normally an objective (capture the flag, elimination, etc.). The difference is that these are BB guns modeled after REAL guns. You can get an M4, MP5, Uzi, etc. They hurt more than paintballs if you aren't wearing the right protection and sometimes people won't go out because unlike paintball, they don't leave a mark. I'm still trying to gather the facts, but so far it looks like a fun sport/hobby.
Wolf Maximas13
i have an airsoft pistol and they do hurt. i'm not a real gun person but i do believe it's modeled after a 45. the only down side to it is i have to coak it to shot each time, but it looks cool it even has a clip. MarkM
well Mabye i should try this airsoft thing...
Corey
I would try it but I have better things to spend my money on than a 300 dollar fake gun. Maybe when I get a full time job...
No-Name
You have to understand that M4's, MP5's, AK's and all other automatic weapons are banned from ownership or sale in the United States. So these "fake" guns are as close as anyone who doesn't sign up for the army or their local SWAT team will ever come to trying the real thing out. And if you give it a shot, tell me how it is, becuz I'm still trying to figure out if it's worth the money...Gotta cash my paycheck, that'll be a quick $
Juu
so...it's a fake..gun?? O.o o.O and you're supposed to do what? .....sigh...people these days....
Mitch
Why are people so captivated with guns and violence? Give me a good, keeping reason?
No-Name
alright, how about this, both of you seem to be girls (correct me if I'm wrong). Girls absolutely (not all, bot most) hate violence while guys can't get enough of it. Why do you think action movies are made? For the good plot? No, for action. It's in the human genome...males are prone to violence and most don't mind it. If you think it's wrong, then good for you, but over 1 billion other individuals think differently. Mitch
I'm correcting you--I am MALE. I see your point of view....I guess I am just "Different" than your average guy. I like it that way to.
No-Name
at least you're honest and don't try to turn things around. Besides, there's nothing wrong with being different.
Smoke
I have an Airsoft pistol. Its modeled after a Berreta 9. Their fairly cool, but I think I will stick with paintball for now.

Genkai
er...remind be the fun of running around w/ a fake gun, shooting around, and getting hurt? hmm......don't really get why you would spend all that money, etc, for THAT! i mean, what's so great about violence and the simulation of a shootout? Genkai
there are other ways of getting an "adrenaline rush". period.
No-Name
I'm a computer geek too, and I thought paintball would hurt too, but after you get hit 5 or 6 times, it just stings after a second. I suspect getting hit with a BB would hurt more, but it's something i could get used to. As for the adrenaline rush, yes there are other things you can do. Like skydive, bungee-jump, or use drugs. Whatever floats your boat ;)
RicoTranzrig
As for the gear...well, if you're going paintballing, the gun could range from 35-1000 dollars depending on your range preference. Helmets are usually provided...other than that, everything else is pretty optional (vest, padding...etc) depending on how much pain you're willing to take. Normally it's just a bruise if you're wearing a shirt but if the ball breaks on open skin, it might bleed. About Airsoft...it would be more difficult to be put off the field since you can't really tell until there's rips in your clothing...and there is that deal about point-blank shots that could be really dangerous if you're using BB ammo instead of paintballs.
vegeta rocker
paintball hurts and i learned the hard way it dents cars. 'nough said, im turning im my gun.
Red
I know someone with an SG-1 sniper rifle airsoft.. It's quite powerful but still supposedly less painful than being shot with a paintball gun, but I haven't been shot with the SG-1 yet, unlike The One :D I want to get a FN p90 for general shooting, (airsoft) you can get them for around £250 over here, which is about $300.
No-Name
yup. the P90 is a wicked gun. With the right modifications (i saw a tut on a site) you can get a laser site right under the barrel. I'm personally looking into either an MP5-K ( pic ) for $225 or the Special K (pic )(variant of an AK47) for $575. For some cool videos, go here: http://www.airsoftextreme.com/store.html
Red
Getting shot with paintballs doesn't really hurt, even when you get shot for the first time. The more you build up about it hurting, the less it hurts when you actually get shot. I was worrying about it when I went paintballing and I got shot in the first round, (d'oh) by the time I had walked off the field it had stopped hurting. However, Rico is right, if the paintball hits open skin or it doesn't explode it will probably leave a nasty mark. My friend got hit by a paintball that didn't explode and the bruise hasn't healed for 4 months.
No-Name
The last time i went paintballing i was trying to snipe from the prone position (lying down) and another sniper from 40 feet away leaned out and hit me in the hand. The shell broke on contact and i got a nasty cut around my finger. Still, it's not like i started rolling around crying, I just muttered some swears and walked off.
