Manic Webb
If you got the Dr. Seuss pun in the title, good for you ;) I want to talk about the strange thing going on with pop music these days. I don't know if you noticed, but pop stars are trying to blend their music with hip-hop. It's not so much every pop star is doing it, but when Britney Spears starts getting beats from The Neptunes and the lead singer of N SYNC sings on Nelly's album... I get confused. If I remember correctly, hip-hop was dissing pop with extreme prejudice a year or two ago. I know I couldn't stand Britney for the longest time. Then, the funniest thing happened. The Neptunes, currently hip-hop's most popular music producers, made a song for Britney Spears' new album; "I'm A Slave For You." If that weren't weird enough, The Neptune struck again when they made the music to "girlfriend" by N SYNC, leading rapper Nelly to appear on the song's remix. Then the lead singer of N SYNC made an appearance on Nelly's new album. It's right about now I want to know what everyone thinks. Is hip-hop getting watered down? Is pop music showing growth? Has the world of music finally lightened up and everyone actually respects eachother? Is something else going on? What's your opinion?
Mist
I believe that hip-hop was already watered down to begin with. I actually think that this is a decline in pop, if they must mix with other genres to be interesting. I can't stand anything from those two genres, so I don't waste my time worrying about it. Just thought I'd add my two cence. :D
Fall
I think this is doing a world of good for both the genres. For instance, some one might not like N*SYNC, or any of their albums, though because Nelly Furtardo appeared on one, they might buy it. It all really depends..... wether they're doing it for money -it's probably going the right way. Though on the other hand, I can't think of any other reason why they'd be doing this. look at Briteny Spear's "Slave 4 U".....that song had changed in nearly everything I can think of comparing it to her previous songs. Though you see, that could ave done a world of good for her -there could have been more sales. Though there also could have been a big drop in sales bcause of this..... personally I think it's because of the money. Either that, or one band wants to be more popular than they already are or some stupid reason like that.
wrist cutter
I'm really disappointed with the pop music scene. It seems like almost everyone is either hip-hop or punk or something, and the few people who remain pop (mostly boy bands, and the female soloists) aren't very good at it. Avalon
I really don't like it very much...I think the genres of music should stay separate...I mean, it's ok, if you like it. But I really don't...
Manic Webb
Okay, time to give my opinion... Personally, I like the blend. One of the things I didn't like about pop songs was the way the beats were arranged and the bassline was almost absent. Pop songs with hip-hop music makes pop songs sound better. On the other hand, pop stars in hip-hop songs sound weird. I remember when Blaque released the single "Bring It All To Me" with that guy from N SYNC in it. I think I went a full month thinking the guy in that song was black... On the OTHER other hand (you know, the third hand), some pop stars don't really sound like they should be singing pop music. There's a few out there with voices meant for neo-soul music or R&B. Yet they ruin their talent with the instrumental sound pop music has to offer. (the music itself is my main gripe with pop music) I think I laughed out loud the first time I actually sat down and noticed that the styles were mixing. I had this one funny daydream about Britney Spears insulting Eminem on her next album with hip-hop music in the background
No-Name
I don't really care much becuz I havent heard a song i like from EITHER group in about 5 months. Wait a minute.....that sort of makes sense. Anywho, I'm going to keep listening to my old songs and some techno until they figure out how they're gonna sing.
Juu
*sigh* I also think Pop's starting to start to fade away.... Just like how classic faded... sorta. I don't know anyone born after the 70's that like classic.... BTW... no-name, how'd ya get the text in your sig go so fast?
Manic Webb
You mean like Classical music? My cousin (she's 19) used to study listening to a Classical music station. She owns a Beethoven (or however it's spelled) symphany on CD and told me who Yo-Yo Ma was. Plus her little brother likes Vanessa Mae. (if you know who any of these people are, good for you) Anyway, maybe pop music will fade out (take that, N SYNC's song!). It'll probably fade into 2 different directions: toward rock and toward hip-hop.
