Question

Here's a question...how come if Saiyans can't breathe in space, then how was Vegeta able to destroy the planet Arlia, and why did he attempt to blow up Earth? If he would have destroyed Earth like he planned, wouldn't that have killed him too? He also flew from one planet to another in the Garlic Jr. Saga when he was searching for Goku.

Royal blood... lol.

My way of explaining it to myself was just that he was still inside the atmosphere of the planet. Or perhaps their Saiya-jin pods hold a small atmosphere of their own, in which they could come out of it a little bit without being affected.

Either that.. or it is just another plot hole...

or possible its just a matter that none of them need to breathe for that little period they are in space. if you think about it, the z fighters went to the outter reaches of the atmospere to fight the robot/genious in "the worlds strongest"
i think they just cant stay in outter space for long.

It's a plot hole created by Toei with their filler. Nappa and Vejita never stopped on "Arlia" and I'm sure Vejita never went searching for Son Gokuu. I'm not sure on that. And when he was planning on destroying Earth he probably would have had enough time to call his ship by remote control.

Zenkai, when you try to sound smart, make sure your facts are in order.

When Vegita and Nappa stopped so Vegita could destroy Arlia, the where just on the edge of the planet's atmosphere. When the Z Fighters were battling Dr. Willow, they were just above the clouds. There are still a few good MILES before they atmosphere even begins to deteriorates.

When Vegita is searching for Kakarot in the Garlic, Jr. Saga, he has a SHIP. You may remember Vegita 'asking' Dr. Briefs for a ship, and that's how he got from planet to planet looking for Kakarot.

If Vegita blew up Earth like he originally planned, the atmosphere would take a good hour or so to completely disappear.

After finding my Garlick Jr. Saga episodes I thought I burned I watched the episode when Vejita thought he saw Son Gokuu. He flew from the planet he was on, to the other planet(seemingly a moon.) No space ship or anything. It was clearly through space. He shouldn't be able to do such a thing. I think this is the part where I say you should make sure your facts are in order. :smirk:

I won't argue about the 'Arlia' inccident, because I don't think I have the episode lying around anywhere. I missed it on the international channel and I never got the Ocean dub of it. And I don't remember much of it. In Movie 2 it was apparent they were in the upper atmosphere and I have no problem with that.

In that case one could theorize that that planet and it's "moon" are within each other's atmosphere.. Or at least close enough that you could right out of one and right into the other.

I don't recall that episode all too clearly, but I don't think we ever saw him actually land or even arrive at the next planet/"moon" thing. So it would be possible that after that scene cut out, he called the ship by remote control or something like that.

The possibilities are endless..

Let me break it down for you.
1. While traveling to Namek, Goku wore a spacesuit whenever he went outside for any reason (fix the hull, blow up that star he was heading for whatever). If he could survive in space for any period of time, even limited, he could accomplish his task at whatever time limit and get back inside without the suit whatsoever.
2. Frieza(Furiza) taunted Goku by mentioning that unlike himself, Saiyans can't survive in space.
3. When Kaiosama called Bulma, he mentioned that Porunga transports the resurrected back to the planet where they died. Bulma realized that if they wished the presumed dead Goku and Krillen back to live the two would be taken back to Namek and since Namek was longer in existance they would die immediately from the lack of air, making the wish for the duo's resurrection pointless.

This clearly shows that Goku can't survive in space. So if even he needs to breathe the same amount of air we humans receive, none of the Z Fighters can survive in space for even a limited period without air. The theory that the Z Fighters have the strength to do this is therefore a moot point in this discussion. But I have one more point

4. In all of Vegeta's space scenes, he is talking whether it is to Nappa or to himself. We see his mouth move and words come out. Have you ever seen the tag phrase for the movie Alien, with Sigourney Weaver. The phrase is "In Space no one can hear you scream." Well that's true since there is no air to go through your larynx (or whatever, I'm not an anatomy expert) to enable vocal communication. The only way Vegeta could be shown talking in space or of course
1. A plot hole
2. The fact that this is an animated series and the writers can do whatever they want so long as it fits their story
3. He was in some sort of atmosphere whenever he was in space.

Don't forget when Namek blew up how was Goku able to breathe in space? He was alive, but how did he breathe. Whenever something inters space like if you throw a human in space sucks the air out of you even with holding your breathe in sucks it threw your skin. So how did Goku get away from Namek alive in space? Anyone know?

If they blew up a planet, just as SS said, it would take a good hour or so for the atmosphere to 'disappear'. Since they can fly, They should be able to get on their ships and leave before they can't breathe anymore and die.
