Driving

I recently got my Permit (like 2 months ago), and have since been learning to drive. At first I was REALLY SCARED and only drove out in the country, then as I got more in the hang of it I started driving in Traffic and have begun to get the handle of that as well. I've done some pretty stupid things since I started. Like I went the wrong way in a Drivethru, I felt SO stupid after I did it. Watching all those people stare at me. Then I was backing up, and my car wasn't started so I backed up into a pole at a gas station, that was pretty scary. My Mom got really mad at me after that. Those are about the only things I have messed up on. I'm still pretty scared to drive a little...but I guess i'll get over it. So have any of you any stories or anything about learning to drive?

Well, I got my permit last October and no one had time to take me driving until this summer, so I won't be getting my license until August.

I think I had only been driving in traffic for a week, when someone cut me off for the first time, another car jumped out in front of me, another car wouldn't let me changes lanes (I mean, they refused to look at my blinker) and I just got lost in a bunch of back-roads the other day.

Oh, and my family likes to give conflicting advice...

Grandfather says: "You're not skilled enough to go the speed limit, yet."
Father says: "If you don't speed up, they'll kill you!"

The key to good driving is to not be afraid of what's going on around you. If you're scared of driving, chances are you'll both hate it and be bad at it.

I was never scared of diving and I'm not afraid of heavy traffic...you just have to be aware of what's going on around you. Keep practicing, and if you drive assertive enough and stay alert, chances are you won't have any problems.

I have my license, but I don't think I've driven a car since I got it, lol. Mostly cause i don't have one... but it's not really that hard to drive as long as you pay attention to what's going on and make sure you know your signals and signs. That's about it. Just have to watch out for all those other idiots out on the road.

I have had my permit since Ifinished Dr. Ed. and it has been fun. The one thing that sucks about the driving is parents. Like take the other day for example. I just backing out of the driveway normally, next thing you know my mom yells, "WATCH OUT CAR'S BEHIND YOU". I had known this the entire time. Its really hard to drive when that happens so naturally I go, "Huh?". I miss the car by a few inches. I'm a good driver except when that happens and it has happen a record 80 times give or take a few. It happens every time. Does this ever happen to any of you? Because it bugs the heck out of me.

I'm only 13.... *sigh* three more years........... u.u
well anyway, I'm not so worried about driving....
Even though I've drove off road a couple o times with the golf carts..... ^_^'

well anyway, just relax, and try not to think about messing up. The more you worry, the more destracted you'll be when driving. Just be open-minded on the road and.... have fun! ^_^

I hate the fact that I'm a delayed driver. I didn't get my permit until I was 17 1/2 and now I'm 18 and still don't have my license. According to my state's law, I could've had my license in April.

I think one of the major hazards of driving is people who don't know how to cross the street. I'm getting tired of passing old people who are stuck in the middle of the road because they j-walked into heavy traffic.

Well, good 'ol massachusetts won't let you have your permit until you are 16, and won't let you have our license until you are 16 1/2. Even then, you have to wait until you are 17 to drive with people outside your immediate family. It is total bullplop. People do it anyways. I am turning 16 in August, so that's when I am getting my permit. Tho my grandpa has let me drive his assortment of tractors/machinery on the road before. I'm not scared of driving. Nor am I scared of other drivers. I think the other drivers should be scared of me.

I'm only 14, so still two more years, but my dad took me driving once on this empty road. He just stopped the car and said "see if you can drive". I drove down the road then panicked and let go of the steering wheel. The car was veering towards the curb and my dads yelling "grab on to the steering wheel!" and i'm going "ahh, i cant do this!":) Needless to say, my dad never took me drivin again!:D

I have officialy found I reason why I like living in Arkansas: They let you get your permit at fourteen. I'm thirteen, so... :D I'm borrowing a driver's course manual at the moment, and reading up so I can get mine as soon as possible because 1) My mom's a bad driver and 2) My dad is an even worse driver.

Well I really don't want to drive, kind of... All I really want is a dirt bike or a bike. Its much better then a car, plus I like them. But my dad won't let me get one because here in Florida, well where I live in Florida, there isn't much land to go out and use it. But if we lived somewhere else he woulda let me get one. I told him I could use it on the street, but I remembered that the tires that a dirt bike has is especially made for off road and it will wear out the tires quicker then on off road.. So I'm hoping I can get a bike. Not a motorcycle, I dont want to be stereotyped by those other people that have it, I don't want to be stereotyped as a Biker. So I'm definately not going to get that. But I'm only 14, and I would have to wiat a few years anyway to get a lincese to drive a dirt bike. I should get a Moped [is that the gas powered one? Or is the Goped that? I don't know, I confuse them a lot.]I really should...Hmm

And you, my friend, are the reason many are afraid to take to the road.

FOURTEEN?! A lot of kids my age (fourteen, finally!) wouldn't be able to see over the dashboard(luckily I'm tall for my age).

We cant get our learners permit till we're 16 and then we have our P plates for TWO years. It was only ONE year when my bro got his lisence, but they changed it. That is so annoying:mad:

Well...uh...while backing up and trying to avoid my great-grandmother's car, I kinda...uh...hit the house...

Anyhoo, I eventually got my license last week after Driver's Ed. (where I met a great geeky friend and a girl who I'll be dating once we can get past this 30 mile stretch of road between us), but my parents have put off putting me on the insurance until they can get every possible discount, so I'm kinda grounded for the moment.

Would you believe I was 19 before I took Driver's Ed? I used to have nightmares about crashing into people, other cars, etc, killing myself in the process. :twitch: My Ed teacher was nice, though (poor Cera!)--except for when he'd scream, "SLOW DOWN, SPEEDRACER!"
:twitch:
On my test day, I parallel parked perfectly, but nearly failed when I pulled a California stop. :bawl:
IMO, you can't see the other drivers the way the lousy stop signs are placed. In Ed, you MUST stop behind the sign...but then, like I said, how will you see the other drivers? Maybe it's just a Dallas problem--too much brush everywhere.

Anyways, I now thoroughly enjoy driving and the freedom (well, responsibilities, too, oy) driving brings.

The signs are so big that you can't see anything? Now I know why they say everything is big in Texas. You do live in texas, right?
If you were so scared of crashing and stuff then why did you go real fast? lol
