Immortality

No, No, No, this is a good question. Goku has talked many villains out of wishing for immortality by telling them that they would be bored after living for ever. Well the enemies could have rejected Goku's words at any time and just collect the dragonballs one more time to wish to be immortal again when ever that person was sick of living.

That was a very good question you picked up, I guess you just found a major plothole in DBZ, Congrats.

I think the main reason why no one (to the best of my knoledge) ever became immortal is because immortality doesn't mean all-powerful. Even if Vageta had gotten his wish and had become immortal, he still wouldn't have enough power to of beaten Freiza, so he'd have to put up with being knocked around by Freiza for the rest of eternity. Plus, immortality doesn't mean that you can't be hurt, it just means that you won't die.

If Vageta had wished to be immortal, and then had been sliced in half, he wouldn't die. No, he'd have to live with the pain for the rest of eternity.

The Dragon says so himself: Make your wish, but beware, for it will come true. Ths means that if someone with a naughty wish makes a wish, the Dragon is perfectly willing to screw around with it. Wishing to be all-powerful could have the Eternal Dragon end up with you becoming so powerful that you end up like the first Super Saiyin - a bunch of stardust. Wishing to have all the money in the world would give you that, but with all the money in the world belonging to you, everyone's gonna be after you. Wishing for a pet dragon could end up with you having a pet dragon who doesn't like you one bit and decides that he wants to eat you.

That's why you make a simple wish, or are realy, realy specific with your wish. Like, instead of saying 'I wish I was immortal!' You should say 'I wish I was immortal and impermiable and could feel no pain! Not let's get on to my other two wishes (assuming it's the Namekian Dagonballs)'. Or, something like "I wish that every time I was defeated I came back alive more powerful then I was in the last life! And with a new form, just for style". Actualy, Freiza once made that wish in a Digiparty I was part of. Only with the Shard, not the Dragonballs. But the effect was much the same.

Has anyone ever actualy succeaded in wishing to be immortal? If someone has, it doesn't make sense. Name the last Guardian you've met who could make someone immortal.

Yes. For them to be able to make them immortal they could obviously make them mortal.

And Darkened Skye it seems that in the sense that Toriyama was speaking it means enternal life and incredible power. Vejita knew Freeza-Sama was strong yet he still thought he would be able to beat him, Freeza-Sama himself even said so.

Well, I think Vageta had the idea that if he was immortal, he could eventualy wear Freiza down to the point where he was just so pooped that he could no longer fight.

What's the Japanese word for immortal? It might have several other translations, too, which included might be all-powerful and stuff.

I don't know. I wouldn't want to be immortal, unless I was an vampire. That's a whole differant story.

Or unless it was just to age and sickness. That'd be okay, too.

There are more than one, for different meanings.

fukyuu: everlasting, immortal, eternal, immortality, imperishible

fukyuunomeisaku: immortal work

fumetsu: immortal, undying, indestructible

The last characteristic of 'fumetsu' is the idea of immortality that the villians are inquiring about.

As for the question, I'd place my money on yes, but we don't know for sure.

Darkenedskye, the answer to your question is, yes. Garlic Jr. recieved immortality in movie special #1 dead zone. Unfortunately for Garlic Jr. he was locked in the Dead Zone for eternity, breaking out once, but ending up in there again, for eternity.

Acutally the wish has to be in the dragons power, maybe he can make you immortal but cannot make you mortal agian, mwahhahahahahahahaha. Like when Krillin asked to make the androids human, the dragon responded (deep dragon voice) THAT IS NOT WITHIN MY POWERS (back to normal) so it just depends on the dragon and the extent of his powers.

Well as of right now there is really no way to tell if the Eternal Dragon (Shenlong) could grant that wish. But as for the whole, vegeta could get cut in half and be forced to live like that forever thing, well I used to think that too. I thougt Freiza could judt kick Vegeta's *** repeatedly until he could get the dragonballs and become immortal. But in one episode, I heard something that changed my mind. When Krillen was healed by Dende during the fight with Freiza, Freiza said he thought that they may have wished for immortalty because he returned healthy. That got me thinking maybe being immortal is like having a healing factor. You could activate that when your really beat down, Garlic JR. was beaten down a whole lot by Piccilo in the Garlic JR saga. Remember Gohan plowed a hole through him and, he just healed himself. Just a theory!

ok now your question makes sense! yeah i guess so, i mean if your immortal why not? You will have plenty of time to find the dragon balls and no one call kill you on the way whats the harm?
i have a question now, now that you have me thinking..
if a bad guy were to wish for immortality, could you find dragonballs and wish for him to be mortal? If it was in the dragons power of course? Since an immortal can wish to be mortal?

Well, Vegeta Rocker, I guess the answer to your question would be yes. You probably can wish things for or on to other people. Like, you can wish someone else back from the dead and it doesn't have to be them wishing themselves back. Oh wait, they can't wish themselves back. Bad example :whoops:. But hopefully you get what I'm saying. :)

:D I always thought that immortal meant that you couldn't die of old age, if you wanted to be unkillable I would think you would wish to be indestructable, but immortal seems to have been used in a different sense in DBZ. As for whether the dragon could make someone mortal again, my guess is that the Namek dragon could do it.:D

Garlic Jr. Actualy suceaded? Cool. Okay, then...um...

Well, the Universe still has ways of screwing around with you. Garlic may be immortal, but because of that he's stuck in the Dead Zone for the rest of eternity. It's kind of like how changing the past is impossible, because Time will always find a way to stop you from doing it.

Huh.

Hey, when Kami dies, and the dragonballs disapear, does that mean that -

A) the go on to the afterlife with him;

B) They remain as inert, useless stones;

-or-

c) they phase out until Kami comes back?

That is the way it works with all dragonballs. When the creator dies, the dragonballs lose there power and then become stones. It happened on namek when the elder namek died, happened when kami died, and will happen if dende dies.

I was just wondering (its on a similar topic) but how do you create the dragon balls? can anyone do it? Because if Goku did it then the dragon balls would be incredibally powerful.
Only a Namek can create DragonBalls. If Gokou could do it, there would have been no need to travel to the planet Namek and face Furiza. Also, Gokou wouldn't have traveled to the new Planet Namek via "instant transmission" to find a new gaurdian for Earth.

lol, Heck, if anyone could do it, Bulma wouldn't have gone on her crazy adventures with chibi Gokou in order to wish for the perfect boyfriend.

I'm still confused as to actual power the Eternal Dragon has. Can he only grant a wish equal in power to the power of the Namekian when the Namekian made them, or equal to the Namekian's current power?

I think only those Namekians within Kami's bloodline can create Dragonballs. Otherwise, every Namekian would have their own set, and the Namekians would rule the universe by now, 'specialy evil ones like Lord Slug (Or Lord Slug look Namekian, anyway...knowing my luck he's a shapechanger)
