Guest brace
The Network Adapter for the ps2 is released the 27th of August. The adapter supports both broadband and dial up connections. It's also supposed to come w/ a Twisted Metal Black: Online game or coupon for a copy of the game. Or so I've heard. Also, the adapter, that btw supports any ISP in the nation, will come with a start up disc which makes it easy to connect and if you have no ISP, it has popular ISP software for you to choose from. Sony is bringing online multiplayer FPS gaming to the ps2 this August. The game is called SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs and is playable in first and third person views, features realistic bullet physics and damage (although i'm not sure just how realistic compared to the Half Life mods and Rainbow 6 games, since I haven't played those myself), 16 person multiplayer online gaming, clan support and raking ladders, voice recognition via headset included w/ the game, and good graphics. Only broadband connections are supported by this game, so dial up users will be left out, unfortunately. but it was decided because the advantage of the broadband users over dial up users would be too great. dial up players would be easy prey. Anyway, SOCOM is exactly what I've been waiting for! :wigout: Anyone else looking forward to this game?
GhostofSalvtore
Yeah me too sadly I have dial-up because I live in a small town not supported by any broadband, but I will still enjoy the game sinse its seems to dela with more stealth than just a gun-fest. I have already preordered mine so it should be here on the day. Can't wait!!!!

Subversive
I thought dial-up would NOT be supported
GhostofSalvtore
For this game it isn't so thats why I can't go online with it but I can still play the single player missions which I am sure will be great.
No-Name
for SOCOM - Only Cable and higher connections will be supported. They realize it will take away a large portion of possible buyers, but they don't want gameply to be affected by crappy connections. What makes SOCOM great: -It has the option for 3PV or 1PV -Up to 16 players online -Different environments (snow, jungle, etc) -Comes with headset for communications online -16 completely different maps for single player -Clan database will be added (I know my GO and AA clan will branch to this for sure)
Semjaza
I have a USB DSL modem, so I wonder if that would work instead... Does anyone know if it still comes with an online version of Frequency? They announced that a while ago, but never mentioned it again. That's still the best PS2 game out, in my opinion.
Charles
I'm not sure if the game comes bundled with Frequency, but I doubt it. This game further solidifies the Playstation 2 as the system to own for shooter fans. Although the texture work isn't exactly the greatest (especially in the outdoor environments), the artificial intelligence and mission objectives seem rather accomplished. To be honest, I didn't expect high resolution textures or high polygon counts to begin with. I'll take fluid animation over sharp textures any day. One cool feature is the ability to use the weapons from fallen enemies. I just loved how Halo was realistic, in that you couldn't carry a large assortment of guns with you at one time. Swapping guns with downed enemies, made the experience seem more resourceful. I just hope that no one purchases this game with the intention of mindlessly shooting people. Like Rogue Leader, this is definitely a more methodically paced game.
Guest brace
An online version of Frequency is going to be on the Start Up disc of the Network Adapter, not on the SOCOM game disc. What will be on the SOCOM disc is a special behind the scenes documentary titled 'what's it like to be a navy seal?' and will feature footage from interviews with real Navy SEALs and also SEALs in action. And as far as single player mode on SOCOM goes, it sounds like it's neglected to be mentioned, but it is going to be good. the AI in the game are smarter than average and come up with plots to ambush you and can track you based on different clues such as footprints, blood trails, and so on, i'm sure. But the reason why it's not mentioned often is that the truly exciting part of SOCOM is the online gameplay on the PS2~!
ZeroBlade
Got the cash, got the system, got DSL, only got one thing to say: WHOOO-HOOOOO!!!!!!!
GhostofSalvtore
But the game is also an offline multiplayer from an article I read so that should also be very cool, I will just have to wait to get cable or DSL out here.
ZeroBlade
I just heard something really cool about this game. Now it hasn't been confirm yet but there are reports that aside from 'talking' to your own team members (in single player that is) there'll be times where you have to scream orders to the enemies too. For example when you raid a house full of terrorists, you may have to bring them in alive and you have to scream things like 'Put'em down' or 'Put your weapons down!' Again, I don't know if its true or not but the possibility IS there. I mean, you can talk to your own men, why not the other way around? Besides there are still things they aren't saying about the game anyway. Oh and I got this info from IGN.
GhostofSalvtore
Well the game sounds really really great, I like that you can have some stealth in there, and you can't carry agagillion weapons, and the headset sounds great as well. I also like the offline multiplayer and I think there is a co-op so that will be really great as well.
No-Name
offline multiplayer? thats a good oxymoron. I think the word you're looking for is "single player" or maybe it's just me...

Guest brace
Yeah, It will be possible to shout orders out to enemies every once and again, I read in EGM back in the June issue that went into detail on SOCOM in it's big feature. Zero pretty much hit the nail on the head. It'll be possible to shout commands to your captured enemies to get them to drop their weapons and whatnot. What's not mentioned much is the crafty A.I. that SOCOM will have. They'll actually plan out ambushes and hide in shadows and bushes to get you in a trap. Very cool. It just adds on to how great the single player mode will be. So you don't necessarily need the online gaming to enjoy this game, although it's needed for the full SOCOM gaming experience. I SERIOUSLY can't wait.
