Sensei-San
I just recently purchased a copy of Golgo 13 on DVD, and I was very impressed. The character animation is amazing, it's exposed in a very trendy manner, where it represents both style and action. The amount of detail is by far the most impressing thing about this movie, the way every single weapon has its indents and safety triggers. It was not only the characters, the fact that the vehicle models were taken from existing companies increased the very positive attitude of Golgo 13's nature. There are many occasions where the "morale" dies down to a certain extent, from a high kicking battle scene to one slow business meeting. None the less, it can be very effective if used appropriately. Sadly, Golgo 13 does suffer a predictable fate, if you know what I mean. There are certain scenes which have no feeling of suspense at all, where you can tell what is going to happen. I rate this anime mainly for its exceptional acting, it is by far superior to any other anime movie. There are very uncalled for situations in Golgo 13, for example, getting a mission briefing whilst making out with a woman. Anyway, what did you think of this movie, good or bad? and what exactly did you like/dislike about it?
Semjaza
While I respect your opinion, I'd NEVER call Golgo 13 superior to all other anime movies. Golgo 13 is a really good movie, and I did enjoy it. It compares really well to most live action movies like it. There were some really memorable moments (for example, when he aims through two buildings, you'll know what I mean if you saw it). Golgo himself is likable for some reason, despite him talking so little. In terms of maturity, you basically have to know one thing: He kills every single man in the movie, and sleeps with every single girl. And all of it is rather explicit. The game on NES was also pretty good, I'm glad they bothered to release it here :).
Sensei-San
The only reason I am quoting Golgo 13 as superior, is because it has a great storyline, it's not too farfetch'd, yet not too realistic. I really enjoyed every single moment of Golgo 13, especially the "one day only" shot between two buildings, heheh, those goons would have never expected it...... The part where the whole story takes a big twist at the end develops a sense of a more confusing attitude, ie- the part where you find out why Robert was shot down by Golgo 13, it is all part of a scheme to get the viewer more into the story. Golgo 13 (aka Duke) receives a mission briefing in person while "making love" to a woman, I guess that this helps viewers notice what kind of man he is at the beginning. Semjaza....what was the game like? I never got the chance to play it, maybe because i wasn't so much of an anime fan back then. Was it as good as the movie? I'm intrigued, please tell me! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ By the way, I've noticed some spoilers in this thread, so I'm going to mark the thread's title with a Spoilers tag. :)
Twinzam v
I would say that golgo 13 isn't that good. I hate lots of things about it the characters, the story line, that mental guy, the dialoge and many more The film isn't good in my opinion:mrt:

Yeah, he was quite freaky, but I don't understand how he can have such power like that, this really ruined Golgo 13's reputation in a way, how such an almost perfect movie was ruined. Semjaza
I think Snake was explained by someone once as being able to basically dislocate parts of his body when he wishes, which could somewhat explain his power. I always found it weird how they just introduce these pretty much useless evil characters for Golgo to fight... like Gold and Silver, and Snake to an extent. I wasn't too big on Snake's role in the movie (at least his actions towards the widow). I did love how the end to Golgo's job totally turns the story around. The first time I saw it, I never expected that. The game... well it's pretty good, because it follows the movie storyline. Golgo runs through a city area, and has to stop in buildings to get more information on his job... The end of the first level has you using a sniper rifle to kill a guy in a tower. It's nothing amazing now, but it was quite cool to me at the time. They even put in the parts where Golgo sleeps with all the girls haha. My only real complaint is that the A and B buttons are reversed compared to all other NES games.
Sensei-San
The end was a smooth finish. It's almost as if Golgo 13 has gotten use to a life of killing. The way he just walks off after being shot at from behind. Regarding Snake, Gold and Silver were a real shame in my opinion. Both of them were introduced right in the towards the end, which is useless, since no one has gotten the chance to see what they're capable of, you just have to judge them by their attire. This can be a good thing in some points, but definitely not in Golgo 13's case. The game sounds like one of a kind in its era, don't know why I never thought about trying it :o . However, it seems highly unoriginal to base a game on its predecessor, it would be way too predictable. :)
Mnemolth
Okay, so I take it no one recalls the total failure of fusion of digital and traditional cell animation in the movie? Remember? With the hellicopters and the building? That looked just awful. But hey, its kinda cute now, much like the way Doctor Who sets are cute in that silly amateurish way. ;)
Semjaza
The helicopter part was horrible, but considering that the rest of the movie makes up for it... I never thought it was that big of a deal. That, and back when the anime was made, that was actually considered decent . Don't know why the bothered, they could have animated that considering the crazy gunfights they did in the rest of the film. There are two Golgo games... one that is seemingly based on the first anime, and another one. I believe it was called "The Mafat Conspiracy." I never got into that one as much for some reason. One of the reasons I love the first so much is that I got it sealed at a K-Mart for $5 less than 2 years ago :). Has anyone seen the sequel, Queen Bee? Sensei-San
To be quite frank, I didn't see anything wrong with the "helicopter part" at all. It all seemed the same to me, in the film, and out. To a certain extent, there are many scenes with crusty animation, and some which are supposed to look like they mean good. Take the car chase for example. With all due respect, it was one of the best car chase scenes I had ever seen, regarding the fact that it was from an anime, but some of the effect put into it really put me off of it, like the "disco light" background, with all the colours of the rainbow in it, lol. Queen Bee wasn't as expected, it could've been a whole lot more better. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to see it subbed without any sound at all. There were many improvements however, like the animation, although the character detail remained the same. The whole plot was rather too extreme as well, it seems like your average every day Hollywood action movie, which never really is a good thing in anime. Compared to Golgo 13: The Professional, Queen Bee doesn't live up to its standards.
