Has 9/11 made us too paranoid?

Boy, I am going to get flamed for this one...

Does anyone else get the feeling that this whole 9/11 attack has made us a little too paranoid? Everyone is accusing everyone and their mom of using the attacks as a scheme to make money.

Here's what made me think of this. For quite some time, 80's toons have been back in the "cool cliques". Nearly a year after the attacks, Cartoon Network brings back G.I. Joe, presumably keeping with the 80's resurgance. However, I have heard lots of people claiming that this is just another attempt to prey on peoples reborn "thirst" for patriotism.

This is just ridiculous. I agree, this was, and still is, a tragedy, but accusing everyone of trying to make money off of it is just as annoying as the people who really are. Is this my beef to keep G.I. Joe on the air(which I'm sure I will be accused of at some point...)? No...G.I. Joe is an average 80's toon that CN brought back to get some ratings. I do believe if they were using it to get ratings off of patriotism, than they surely would have put it on at a better time than 1:00AM.

The bottom line is this: everyone needs to just chill out. What happened, happened, and accusing everyone is going to make people feel any better. All we can do now is trudge on, with our spirits high, and show them that they can't better us. But bickering amongst ourselves over who's trying to get rich off of tragedy really isn't helping.

I don't know how I feel about it.

On the one hand, I think some are too paranoid and unrealistic about it.

On the other, America was always behind the 8 ball when it came to internal security. So at the very, very least, security is now being taken a lot more seriously.

Yes, but, is security being taken so far that it sacrifices the ideals that America was founded upon. That, I think, is the issue.

And in certain respects, those ideals were out-of-date, anyway. However, I think many will be upset by some things that will arise security-wise.

It's kind of questionable the way some people see it.

Some say, it may not happen again due to tighter security and feel no need for all the extras.

Others, feel that the security is not enough and that the terrorists will slip though their fingers, and another large attack will occur, devastating us even more.

It's hard to tell which side the ball will roll.

theres no sure fire way to prevent terrorism and people are getting too paranoid with the whole thing. I also think people are quick to accuse is because, well look at everyone! They go out and buy flags and red white and blue things whats up with that? I can understand being patriotic but, they are just trying to out do each other sometimes. They think they should be more patriotic than their neighbor. Think of all the war movies that have come out lately, or are in progress, would most of you consider those a scheme to make money? I think the movie business is trying to avoid it, look at spiderman and how much it was edited. But at the same time are putting out war movies so....

Like Justin said, there's no way to prevent terrorist attacks 100% of the time, so all the things that our government is doing right now are pretty stupid. The ever tightening immagration laws are making it harder for honest immagrants to come here, and that's stupid. If I remember correctly, Flash had a problem coming stateside just to see his father, probably due to effects from 9/11. It's all very stupid and uncalled for.

There is a way to prevent terrorism 100%.
Every county in the world has to agree to be in a kind of 'Commonwealth' society. Each and every nation in the wolrd will be unified and will share information, materials, scietific finds and anything else.
But since thats not going to happen due to religious, ancient, or fear fueds we are stuck with the parinoid world we live in. 9/11 making people parinoid? Nah, it's always been there.

But DOK, even then, there'd still be some people who don't agree with what's going on, and the'll make every attempt to mess things up.

In fact, that's exactly what 9/11 was all about.

Actually, the only real 100% failsafe terrorism cure is to blow up the planet... But that would be an act of terrorism in itself, huh? ;)

I Think you Americans are a little too paranoid, but over here it's the same. You can't even take a nail file on board a Jet Aircraft anymore, but they'll give you a knif to eat your meal with. o.O

We're living in a very paranoid, over protective, post 9/11 era. As long as stupid Osama's are allowed to run around screaming Jihad jihad! there will be no peace >.<

Yes, Americans', especially in airports, are going way too far with this. I mean it isn't like I want another attack because I don't. Whenever I was on a plain with 4 seats on each side and 5 seats in the middle (Big Plain) there were about 4 men that looked like they had come from the Middle-East that were sitting in the close front. Whenever they came onboard the pilot and the ladies that walk down the isle were eyeing them suspiciously. One of my friends had to sit next to one for a 4 hour flight. Of course my friend was scared. But back to the point, pilots shouldn't be making faces etc. at people that happen to be the same color. They also would let us take our food onboard unless we wanted to deal with throwing the untensils away then getting some on the plain and then the ladies making sure you gave them all back. So, yes America has gone paranoid over this. Also Security hasn't really gotten better because there was something on the news about a person from the government that tried to walk onto a flight with a knife in his bag. After that if they didn't see it then he would tell them and make sure their security got better. Well he got behind a guy who was the same color as the terrorists. The person that was checking the bags under the scanner thing was paying to much attention to the man and his bag she didn't even look at his bag and he succesfully got onboard. They didn't give out the name of the airport but isn't that a little scary?? America has gotten very paranoid which is very bad because this is what the terrorist wanted.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that, yes some of the actions might be a lil overboard...

As many have said already, there's no way to possibly prevent terrorist attacks.

As long as humanity walks the earth, there will never be peace.....

Still talking about this... I see... Bah

Well, for security of course they've tighten security on somethings... Like when my grandfather came back from Italy, he was on a plane [obviously...] and he had one solider in the front of the plane with an M16 fully loaded and one in the back... I DON'T think they will do something when they've got some firepower like that...

True.. but um.. you're forgetting that other countries have nuclear bombs/atomic bombs too.. Another thing, they're protecting the airports..uh..yeah... they've already used planes for an attack once, what makes you think they'd be stupid enough to do it again? The 9/11 plan was obviously well-planned, unless they wouldn't have got through security. If they were that smart, they'd try something else, something we wouldn't expect...

I agree. I for one don't think therir is going too be another attack anytime soon. Alot of countries should be smart enough not too attack us after what we did to Japan in WW2.
Its quite different from then to now... Other countries DO have nuclear warheads operational and ready for launch...

Am I paranoid about 9/11? No. Are other people around me paranoid? Yes.

For one, my mom. She's convinced that terrorists were gonna attack during the Super Bowl (Which was held here last), and that didn't happen. She swore that an assult would be made on the 4th of July. Yet there was none.

The whole time I said nothing would happen. And I'm sure that nothing else will happen.

If they're out of the USA, my mom doesn't really worry too much. Not truthfully, anyway. She has this need to call me in the room to watch news when there's a suicide bombing or whatever, and her voice is full of pity, but her face is as emotionless as I am.

Ugh. I hate parents.

OK, I think I've expressed my views on this whole 9/11 thing, but I'll go again..

This "protection" from similar airborne attacks is anti aircraft guns set up on important buildings, I mean, if anything similar to 9/11 happens, 240 innocent passengers will be sacrificed to prevent more people dieing on the ground. If a plane was to target a building, it would be shot down by anti aircraft guns, this has been said by the American army etc.

I don't G.I Joe being shown on CN again is any form of trying to feed off peoples patriotism, it's just been re-released on video/DVD along with Transformers, it's probably a hope to boost sales.

I'll tell you one thing that made me sick w/ the whole thing about ppl trying to make money off of 9/11. I was shopping around looking for some manga and whatnot and I see a comic/manga (didn't bother finding out which) with the title '9/11'. if that isn't making money off of it, nothing is.

I think there will be another attack on the U.S., but I don't think we'll have to worry about it anytime soon. it'll probably be at least a couple more years before something as bad as the WTC bombing happens. it wouldn't be too smart of them to try something so soon after 9/11, unless they had a really good plan or something (God forbid)...
