I'm not a big fan of this topic, lol.

You're basically rehasing the same exact topic in all of the gaming forums.

In any case, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and allow this to stay since it's not breaking any real rule. Neil's topic was the closest to this and it's pretty old and was far more broad.....

This topic reminds me, I really havn't gotten a new PlayStation 2 game in a while.

I am deffinitly due, which can be handled smoothly due to the fact that my birthday is next month. I'm planning to just ask for money, but it wouldn't be the same if I didn't get at least one system title.

Anyway, I'm deciding between either Devil May Cry (man, I wish I had discovered it sooner) or Madden 2003. Probably Madden '03, since it would be my first Madden game, it was 'Game of the Month' in Electronic Gaming Monthly, and because I'm expecting the price to go down a lot on Devil May Cry.

Ah, well, I still have a month and a half left to deide. No rush at all. :)

:blah:

Wow your first Madden game what NFL games have you played before this then, cuz there really isn't anything better than Madden,
The same goes for me I have't had a PS2 games since GTA3 so I al long long overdue but the games I have now have such good replay value that I still play them.

Hasn't Soul Reaver 2 been out quite a while now? Maybe I'm mistaken. I loved the original, but I played a demo of the the sequel and wasn't impressed. It was just a little too similiar.

I plan on getting Kingdom Hearts and Disaster Report (http://www.gamers.com/news/1210205). I also NEED Suikoden 3, which is probably my most anticipated PS2 game.

Other than those... really all I buy anymore are old PSX games. I just picked up Threads of Fate and Front Mission 3. I still can't find Legend of Mana .

Nope, you're not mistaken, lol. Neil has only just purchased a PS2, so I guess that he has some catching up to do with games.

Moving on, I'm a bit strapped for cash lately, so I will probably limit myself to picking up games that are reliable and that I've been looking forward to.

So....I'll probably just sit on the bench with Madden 2003, beause quite frankly last year's version will do, since I very rarely play that even.

Dragon's Lair 3D and Run Like Hell look promising, but I might just have to settle for Tekken 4 or Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus. Then again, Star Fox Adventures for GameCube releases around that time, so I'll probably have a tough decision to make, heh. Above all, Grandia Xtreme is a must own for me though. I'm not saying that it's superior to any of the aforementioned titles; I'm just a Grandia mark. :)

One thing is for sure....the Holiday season is going to be killer with three consoles duking it out....

I don't think this warrants it's own thread, soo...

I just picked up this game called Sky Gunners. I had no idea what it was about, but I've loved everything Atlus has bothered to publish in America so far (Tail Concerto, Tactics Ogre, Ogre Battle, Persona, etc). It had this cute anime look to it, so I thought why not.

The game turned out to be one of the coolest aircraft shooters I've ever played. It's really disorientating at first... The camera is just weird, and at times your plane is driving towards the screen. Once you get used to this though, I think the camera was done in this way for the best.

The controls are incredibly sensitive as well. I got used to them fairly quickly, but one of the training levels drove me nuts because the plane would turn heavily with the slightest touch.

The graphics are nice though, everything is bright and colorful. The explosions are top notch, the frame rate if perfect and the draw distance is incredibly far. Best of all the sound is great. The music is wonderfully orchestrated, and the game lets you pick between Japanese and English vocals (one of the reasons I love Atlus).

Anyway, take everything about crazy 2D shooter games and push them into 3D and you might get something like this. I recommend people at least rent it :).

And this isn't Sony related... But Atlus is also releasing Animal Leader in the US as Cubivore. The rumor was true :D. Can't wait.

SOCOM is my next game. Absolutely must have it.
Aside from SOCOM, I want to get Mario Sunshine this month.
But SOCOM will take up a huge chunk of my gaming time.

Hmmm, on the IGN review, they claimed that the frame rate was actually an issue in the game, even with the 30fps mode. Is this problem noticable at all during more intense sequences?

I definitely like the look of the game. From the pictures you've posted, the Japanese style appears to resemble Sony's Jumping Flash.

Well... I don't know why I wrote perfect ::whoops::. It should be not perfect lol. I still am trying to figure out why I wrote that with the rest of that sentence... I must have been really out of it, especially considering I made it seem like the frame rate was something positive, when it simply isn't in this game. There are times when it is running smoothly, and then there are times when slowdown is tremendous.

It's not like stuttery, like in Perfect Dark for example. Your cursor won't like jump around suddenly... But when you are running straight at a huge enemy ship the game plays like it is in slow motion. For some reason, it doesn't annoy me all that much though... it winds up letting you plan your moves better sometimes. But it does really pull you out of the action, and is annoying and disappointing. Especially considering the somewhat simplistic cartoonish visuals, despite the amount of action.

I never have noticed the slowdown when you are fighting tons of little ships... It only really happens with the big ones, and the huge amount of fire power at your disposal (especially the firework bombs pictured above) slows it all down even more.

I still think the game is worth trying. You might like it, and thankfully it has a lot of replay value. There are 3 characters to play as, who each do something different in each mission (as well as having different riding skills and special move). There are also bonus modes to unlock. The game itself has a lot of charm (especially with Japanese voices...the English acting is worse than I thought it would be), and I enjoyed the story (wasn't amazing, but it was quite good for this type of game).

I meant to edit that post tonight, but you beat me to it :).
