The ideal anime

No, you don't name what you think is the best anime. In this topic, I want you to tell me what you think the ideal anime movie/show/comic would have. You can refferance other animes, though.

In my opinion...

The ideal anime has action. Full out, intense fighting action, like durring a DBZ battle. A REAL DBZ battle, where they're all working hard and one doesn't clearly had an advantage. Like...like durring the Trunks/Goten battle durring the World Martial Arts tournement. But not nearly as fast.

The ideal anime has magik. What is anime without magik? It's less then nothing. And I mean, real magik, not 'call out your attack name' magik. I mean "chant words from your Grimore and summon a dragon" magik. "Say 'malaneth khusa alik' three times and you can cause a massive explosion" style magik. Not "FIREBALL!" magik. Anime magik should also be flowing and organic, with a lot of shimmering (except when the spell takes effect - then it can do any number of things)

The ideal anime has no modern technology, or if it does, it's a scarce commodity. A gun or cannon should only be present if the protaginist - and only him or her - has come from the future. The rest of the time, it should be swords, bows, spears, and the like. Crossbows should only be seen from time to time. Air ships should only be placed in an anime with extreme magik in it, where magik isn't as rare as some would like.

The ideal anime has a wide range of characters to pull from. The protaginist should be thrown into a situation which he or she has no control over, and he or she should not have wanted to be there - like Van from Zoids: Chaotic Century. He didn't WANT to go find Zoid Eve, it just sort of happened. The ideal protaginest male has no skill with magik, but is fairly skilled with a blade. He has a cute female side-kick, prefferably of the same or younger age - the same if both are fairly young, younger if the guy is fairly high in age-dom (twenty-five to thirty, in which case, the girl will be around fifteen, sixteen or seventeen). For female protaginests, they should be skilled in the arts magika, and not have another human as a sidekick - prefferably, they should have some small, nonhuman companion, like a small gargoyle or talking cat with fairy wings, or better still a fairy. It should never be a normal animal, however. The female protaginest shoudl DEFINATELY be young - age eighteen max, or at leasy appearing age eighteen max (Remember that elves - which should be in the ideal anime - live to be very old, so an elf which looks eighteen in human years could actualy be somewhere in his or her nineties. As long as we're on that subject, the female character should be an elf, or at least have an elfin build - fluid and liquidy, with muscles which aren't as well defined, and of course pointed ears)

The ideal anime has a third character that comes in somewhere, the "glass is half empty" guy, if the protaginest isn't like that already. Yes, guy - it looks better on them, and though I'm sure a gal could carry it off, it's easier to do with a guy. The guy has to only be with the protaginest - at least at first - because he or she can give them something or other that the guy wants. This works out best if the lead character is a female, so the two end up countering each other.

If the protaginest is already negative, then the third character instead becomes a cheery girl - once again, females carry this off better then males, it's not a sexist thing - that ends up tagging along for no known reason, she just kind of ends up with them. She is prefferably of a young age, perhaps fourteen to sixteen, and prefferably has some skill in the arts magika if the lead character doesn't already. If the lead character is a magus, then she could be some kind of theif or rogue - but a happy one! The glass is damn near full for her. This balances out with a male lead character.

The ideal bad guy (I'm using male terms, but 'he' could just as easaly be a 'she') is a powerful, evil lord named Necrosis or something along those lines. He is cold and calculating, and he does not think twice about killing people. The ideal bad guy has legions of servents ready to die for him simply because they're either A) stupid or B) summoned up evils. He has gray, white, or very pale Caucasian skin and black hair. The ideal bad guy, by the way, is a strong fighter, but a skilled magus as well. he idealy has armor that looks like it's made from bones or lizard skin, and his sword has a blade that's halfway to being an axe*. He mostly never actualy engages the lead characters directly, because he either A) considers them merely a nuisance or B) knows of some prophecy that says he'll die if he engages them - a la the Overlords from Neo Destined in both cases.

The ideal bad guy also has a second-in-command. The second-in-command could be of all kinds of backgrounds or genders (well, actualy only one of two genders), but these two work out best: he or she is either a formerly loyal servant who plots to overthrow the ideal bad guy and then rule the bad guy's empire, or he or she is someone who was enslaved and is forced to do what the ideal bad guy says via powerful magiks. In the former case, the second-in-command is killed by the ideal bad guy, in the latter, the second-in-command is either killed by the good guys or freed.

Note how I said empire. The ideal bad guy has something which they rule, weather the empire be an actual land, a guild of assassins, or something. 'empire' does not necisaraly imply that he's an Emperor, though it certainly helps.

Anything else? What do you think is the ideal anime?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*In the case of a female evil person, they should prefferably have dark to night-black skin with silver or shite hair, and dress scantaly. She should have a sword, but rather then a massive, slow blade it should be a thinner, faster blade, and she should be more skilled with magik then with sword, and she shows more emotion then the male evil person. Prefferably, she's an elf, too - and if the lead character is an elf, then they could even be related! 'Course, in the end, she'll have to die.

well, i think the ideal anime has action, fantasy, mysterious and well developed chars, and no target audience(risky, but it couldn't be ideal without this).

also, everyone knows it has to be original. but my idea is about the same as yours, but magic isn't a "must have" for me. i love chobits, no magic there!

usually as long as it has a rather large portion of drama and gets in-depth with the characters, I'm fine with it. it either has to be either really dramatic, or really funny, but both of them together would be great, too. romance is good too, though it's not a must. if there were gonna be any weapons, guns and things of the like would be my choice. the ideal anime is mostly like what darkened skye said except i think it has to have have guns and some mechanical means of transportation.

also, the female protagonist must be a skilled warrior. whether it be by her fighting ability, her magic, or both.

one of the male good guys has to have either a very involved, complicated background, or deep dark secret that is revealed near the end.

i definitely agree about the magic. an anime has to have magic, but not that stupid waving wands and flying around on broomsticks crap.

The ideal anime has a blend of three ingrediants. The perfect blend of drama, action, and plot. In order to be consider an anime classic most of these animes have the best stories, drama, and action. For example Akira would be considered an anime classic since it has those three elements. DBZ would not be considered a classic and more like a cult favorite since it lacks in story and plot but is popular with the people who are just being introduced into the world of anime.

Thats my two sense on this topic though! ;)

If it is all going to have just action, like Darkened Skye is saying, no it wouldn't be that good. A good anime has to actually have more than just plain action. I think a good mix of everything, without to many Cliche's would work out good. Like: action, deep plot, great characters, great artwork, great voice actors, great presentation...and so on. That is what I think makes a good anime good.

In my opinion, the ideal anime would have to have mystery and supense, these two elements always get me into the story that much more, whether I am watching a film, or even reading a book.

Unfortunately, many animes of today concentrate solely on action and romance. Sure, anything can be good with those two elements, they just have to be used right. ;)

i think the ideal is an anime that can tell an amazing story while still impressing you with the visual aspects as well.
classic story, original charactors, and a quality presentation of the art itself.
all of that should blend to make a good program.

Well, what can I say that hasn't already been said? Nothing so I'll just give my own elaboration.

To me the ideal anime is like the ideal Sci-Fi movie. It has to have a good, no, great plot. The story must not be something that has been too cliched (traveling back in time to rewrite history, turning into a costumed superhero to fight monsters etc.) If it is cliche it must add some sort of spin that will keep fans riveted and willing to keep watching. If the plot is supossed to be comedic, then let it be comedic, if serious it should be serious. It should not keep shifting back and forth with no true direction. Serious plots should be peppered with some comic relief, and comedic series should have at least some seriousness, but both should remain true to form.

The art must be superb but that's not a stretch for most animation artist. I like anime but I sometimes I don't like serious shows with exxagerated art (sweatdrops, running noses, etc.) That type of stuff is more for the "kids" shows. It must have realistic artwork (Cowboy Bepop comes to mind) that conveys the mood of the series and have realistic character appearences, more of an American influence rather than the colorful hair and exxagerated eye sizes although I do love that stuff. I want art that can truly "wow" me in all forms of the phrase.

The characters must be well-developed. Something along hte lines of Final Fantasty characters come to mind. They must have reasons for being the way they are and all of them must be relateable and easy to get to know, not one-dimensional and unchangeable. If there is a lost soul, I want to feel his/her pain. If there is a jerk, I want to hate him/her and then love him/her as he/she is further presented. And if it has to have a villain, the villain must be a friggin genius. Evil laughs, black clothing, etc., do not a villain make. That's just a consolation prize. I want someone who is bad to the bone, revels in villainy, and can give any of the protagonist a run for their money. He/she should be someone who the fans love to hate and can't get enough of (i.e. Sephiroth).

The ideal anime should be something like "The Sopranos". It should be inticing and able to catch a hug fanbase from the beginning and should be able to not only keep, but maybe even double that fanbase to the bitter end, and leave all those who watch it salavating for more. If it gives them more, that second helping should be just as good and/or better than the first.

I like anime that has a love story and very attractive male characters and beautiful and elegant looking female characters. I'm falling more and more in love with manga lately because the artwork is always so much more detailed and graceful looking. Especially anything by CLAMP.

I also like drawn out and in depth storylines that always leave you hanging and begging for more, with an element of everything in them. And if you want to know what type of show I hate, it's DBZ. That's about the stupidest show I've ever seen in my freaking life...

I love romance stories.....I'm just a sucker for them. ^-^ I'm with Queen Asuka on the gorgeous guys and pretty females. If there's no romance, then it has to have a really good plot. Something that's not too slow, because that will turn me off the series. I also like interesting characters that aren't too obnoxious. And one more thing.....I like some focus on the main characters. Once thing that turned me off of Ranma 1/2 was the fact that so many characters kept coming in and trying to break up Akane and Ranma. I just got tired of the main characters NEVER getting their light.

Now, I liked Ranma for the reason that they were trying to break up Ranma and Akane. I just couldn't stand Akane and I thought that him and Shampoo should have gotten together. ^_~ Anywho, I also like SOMETIMES, ONLY SOMETIMES, relationships that are male/male, like Nuriko and Hotohori could have been...but only if both anime guys are REALLY hot...

I agree with pretty much all that you said. I think the ideal anime would consist of such things, but even if you threw all that stuff into it it still could end up being soemwhat crappy. So what you need is highest quality of all those parts and put them all together. It's just like think of all the anime's you have seen (and really enjoyed) and take all the aspects and things that made them great in your mind. Now create an entirely new anime (new story, new plot, new characters, ect, ect) and add all those parts and things of the sort into this new creation. The end result would be in creating one hell of an anime. Unless you got crappy voice actors or really cheesy animators

I think something like Inuyasha, but different. Action, Humor and romance all in one.

The hero would proclaim his love from the start, as would the heroin. I think that I'd have them work for some sort of an organization which requires them to be in constant danger, thus the action. Humor would come on the down time or when he cheated on her. I'd also like to have a Little sex in there as well. Like it would be a new thing, but showing more... thus granting the M +18 rateing. I so dirty...
I have almost completed this actually..... In my head. Maybe I should put pen to paper. I don't have enough time to type everything out on my internet connection. Too bad.

The ideal anime...:

1. Has multi-dimensional characters that you can either love (if they're a protagonist) or love-to-hate (if they're an antagonist)
2. Has an original plot, or an original angle on pre-existing plot
3. Has stylistic, detailed artwork
4. Can carry both comedy and drama equally well
5. Keeps you excited and wanting to see more
6. Doesn't become too repetitive and has a proper ending

Cowboy Bebop fits all of the criteria.
