Mitch
Yesterday I went to the grocery store. Anyways, my main point is that I saw some Shiitake Mushrooms, which reminded me of when I once mispronounced the word, and asked my parents what it was (I'll leave the way I said it for you to imagine, like you don't already know anyways) Anyways, I was wondering if you've ever pronounced a word in a funny way that brought a laugh.
BabyGirl
On time my friend was talking about someone being the epitome of something, and she pronounced it "EP-eh-tome" instead of "ah-PIH-toe-me" and I just looked at her and started cracking up. It was a funny moment ^_^

Sara
heh, yeah, epitome. I like saying words strangely... My family's used to it by now. :whoops:
Kinetic
I don't do it very much, but I used to slightly whistle whenever I said something with an "s" in it, it really annoyed me, but I cured myself. Anyway, my grandmother used to pronounce "pillow" as "piddle", and I thought that was funny :blulaugh:
Ryo
My friend from Europe came here for a vacation. He can speak english very well but when he can't pronounce words he says them slowly. One day he was looking at a map and he found the state Idaho. He couldn't pronounce it so he said it like this "I-da-ho" started to crack up. He still didn't get it. It took him a couple of minutes to get it but when he did he started to crack up too.

It gets on my last nerve.
Okay, so I'm not the only person that does that, lol. One of my friends and I always find ways to either mispronounce, or over-pronounce words. We mostly look at so-called "swear" words. Our favorites are "hell" and "damn" (not really swear words though). We feel that there is a reason that there are two 'l's in the word "hell" so we over pronounce it more like "hail" with heavy pronunciation on the 'L' but not really dragging in on like "helllllll". Then when it comes to the word "damn", we gave it two syllables by pronouncing it "day-um".... a bunch of losers we are. :whoops:
Sandy
Idaho, huh? Didn't get it... THE most hardest english word for me is SUGGESTION. It tends to come out as "sutchetchion" or something like that, and it REally annoys me, since I think I'm pretty good at pronouncing foreign languages. To mock at english-speaking people a little ;) , I just HATE the way they pronounce "é". It's not "ei"("ay")! So no Renei (Renée), Soirei (soirée) or anything else like that! But to be equal, we Finns are approximately HORRIBLE at pronouncing things! It's because our language is so hard-sounded, that it's hard for us to make things "smooth", like the "th"-sound or the english "r". But these things aren't meant to be taken seriously: we must just be humorous about the way we pronounce other languages, not to be offended, if somebody notes about it!:D

I'm assuming you speak French as a first language? I LOVE French, I love everything about it, I love speaking it and the French culture and the country and so on...:babble: But, like yourself, I hate it when people don't pronounce the é correctly...or when they don't pronounce anything French correctly. Annoying >_<
PiroMunkie
Ahhh, good ol' French. I'm only a first year student, but I know the basics well enough. I also get a little irritated when I hear it used wrong. I was watching this one Disney Channel original movie thingy (there was nothing else to do) and this one lady was at this fancy (and I'm guessing French) restaurant. She said something to the waiter, but addressed him as "garçon". So not only is that improper, but she also pronounced it "garsen". I wanted to reach in the screen and slap her silly. On a more humorous note, I used to work with this one guy who couldn't pronounce certificate. He an older guy, too, lol. In his twenties somewhere. He just couldn't pronouce it. He would always say "cerfiticate". A minor case a dyslexia maybe..
Corey
Thois guy I know cannot, for the life of him, pronounce asterisk correctly. When he says it it sounds like 'axerick'. I really have trounble pronounceing synonym. It comes out like symonim...
Genkai
well, where i live, here are some VERY commonly mispronounced words: Ask: "ax" Water: Wooter Appreciate: Ah-PRISH-ee-ate" Saw: "Saaaawl"(shudder) anyway, i ive in delaware county in PA, and for some reason everyone but a few exceptions say a least one of those incorrectly. Manic Webb
It took me a long time to figure I was pronouncing "ask" wrong. I used to say "ax." I still can't say "asks" (plural)! I used to say "azz" but now it comes out "askiss" I remember the first time I read "Antigone" (the name of a Greek play). It's pronounced "an-ti-gon-ee" but I used to say "an-ti-gon" For fun, I like to say "dangerous" with a short "g" so it sounds like "dan-gir-us" I don't know about you all, but I'm tired of people saying "scurred" instead of "scared." Sara
Asperagus~ ASP err ah guess Humidity~ HOO mid ih tee [Okay, I don't do ths, but people I know do and it BUGS me.] Hello~ HAY low [Halo] [I've also been known to greet people with 'Jell-o,' 'yellow,' and 'cello.'] Oatmeal~ oat MEAL [from an Abbot and Costello sketch..and only when I'm feeling really goofy] Milk~ It's MILK, okay?!?! Not 'MELK.' There's no E!!! And as for dialect... 'Pop' is an onomatopoeic word. I don't drink it, and it is not how I address my father! I get the strangest look when I'm out of town and ask people where the 'bubbler' is. Apparently it's a Milwaukee-area thing. So, where's the ah....drinking fountain? Cellar or Basement? Tap or Faucet? Dinner or Supper? [Dinner's a big midday meal, Lunch is a small one, Supper's in the evening....'sfar as I'm concerned. ;)] ::wanders off::

Pop and soda are interchangeable, and while soda does make more sense, it is going to take me more than a little while to start saying that after I move to California. Sara
:p Heh, actually, I'm a little strange about that... If it's in a glass bottle, I call it pop. I don't know why... That just the way I work, I guess. :whoops:
Amber_star
around here if you asked for a soda we wouldn't have any idea what you were talking 'bout. we call it pop:p and i think supper and dinner is the meal at night. and lunch is the meal at noon(course that's just me). Sere Tuscumbia
Er. I can't say "statistic". My t's just won't come out, so it sounds like sa-sis-tic. I've had 20 people so far try to correct me. I also can't say "purple", or "cinnamon". Gah. X_X;; Sere

Roxie Faye
The only word I say weirdly, is, when I'm counting fast, I'll say fity instead of "fifty". So It'll be Fity-one, fity-two, fity-three, etc. Piro, I do the same thing with my swear words. But, to me, they sound like they've got a Texan accent. Sage was talking about Finnish, he lives in Finland(and watches Digimon in German, but that's another story). I live in Jersey, so no one like our accents. When someone who's not from out area comes over here, they can't tell the diff. in the accent between someone who's from Jersey City, Paterson, and NYC. It's all the same to them. We say things weirdly, like our is "r". It's r's! (heheh) I think "Bahston" accents are funny. My aunt lives in MA, and her accent is so funny! "Did you pahk the cah?" Also, when I was at camp, most, if not all, the counselors were from other countries. A lot of them were from Australia, and one said they didn't like our American accents. She said we were strange on some of the pronunciations. I'm sure F_F, Liamc, James, and anyone else form Australia can tell me that they say "herb" with the "H" on it, while we say it as "erb". The counselor that said that to me told me: "There's an 'H'. Use it!" Although, I think the best accents are English and Scottish. Sean Biggerstaff's accent is so sexy!
