Anime Why do you think Anime is so expensive

[color=red]Yeh, I mean a single tape with 3 Episodes costs usually 20+ dollars, and a whole series set usually costs 160+ dollars. So I was wondering what your thoughts on why anime is so expensive?

I know Anime is a special thing, but I'm not made of money. I'd see maybe 15 dollars for 3 episodes or something...20 is just a little to high for me. I'm not saying I'm not buying Anime because it's to high, it just makes it less accessable to me because it costs so much. When I get a job finally I am going on an Anime Binge all the way![/color]

Probably because it's still basically a niche thing, and the companies want to make their money back.

You'll notice stuff like DBZ isn't generally expensive like a lot of other less popular animes.

That's my guess, I don't know the true reason.

It doesn't really depend on the "popularity" of a certain anime for it to be expensive. It usually is on how new the anime is, in terms of when it was released.

Most animes are quite old, and were originally released on VHS, so once they are transfered across to DVD, they become new, thus why they are so expensive. :)

Because they can. Anime isn't like soap, where there are many different brands that all must compete, thus causing low prices. With anime there are few companies, and thus they can charge unreasonable prices because they have few competitors.

i think most things are pretty overpriced these days, but since anime is still has growing and growing fan base, the bigger it is, the more they can price it, but since it's not nearly catching up to everything else on dvd and videos, the audience wants all they can get, another overpricing oppurtunity.

you're correct though, ive yet to see an anime DVD that was less than $25 except at a certain site i love!!!! but at least one place has them ove $25.

VHS also has probs, though they can be cheaper. but i got a CCS VHS that was more expensive than the DVD(before we got a DVD player*shudders at the thought*:wigout:

because life is unfair. And it also depends where you buy it, if you buy it on the net you might get a better price than a store. But i think it all comes down to popularity and demand. If you had a choice between a dbz and a ghost in the shell tape, which one do you think would cost more? The GITS would probably cost more, but then again,(contradiction is sweet) dbz might cost more because its better known. My opinion? The demand is low charge more. Thats why God gave us those beautiful recording machines that we call vcr's. And oh yeah, burning 'em on dvd isnt bad either. (no illegal implications) :)

Yeah the suggested retail on some things can be downright nutty...

Thankfully lots of places dont sell anime at the retail price :D

I usually buy my Anime from BestBuy and alot of there stuff is down right affordable. Take the Eva perfect collection for example.

I just bought it at bestbuy for 110$ even though it has a Retail price of around 170$

Even though im not rolling in it i think MOST the prices for anime is fair...Hopefully as time goes on the price will go down...

dude u ought to check out [url]www.ebay.com[/url] if your payin that much, i get anime vids for like £3.50(which is about $5) i would never pay over £10 for any anime vid, i aint got no money and i gotta buy strings for my guitar and with that i aint got owt(i dread having to replace my strings on my bass)

I dunno ive grown quite untrusting of alot of online sources...Missing discs,Defective discs, And a variety of other problems...Ill pay alittle bit more Just to have that peace of mind :devil:
