American DBZ

I disagree over a lot of the things that people have against FUNImation, and American DBZ in general. I think a lot of it is based on bias, and a lot of people follow the "funi is evil" thing blinded by a desire to fit into the community. Anyway, what are your opinions? Also, any word on new episodes on Cartoon Network? :P

I don't hate American DBZ...I hate all DBZ. Anyway, I still post in this forum...because I'm an idiot. I still think Funi butchered what little there is to the series, and I thought that before I knew everyone hated it.

I hate the Funi DBZ. The only thing I have to thank it for is introdcuing me to DBZ. Now I only watch the subs. So yes..Funi is evil in my mind, in a certain way that is. :D

I don't think we are biased at all. Maybe a small percentage are close minded and think dear god! Funi brought DBZ to the masses, where will i bask in my superior anime knowledge?

But for the most part, alot of us dislike it because of what it did to DBZ and not because of some agenda against them. I'm assuming you are a fan of DBZ so i will also assume you have seen subtitles of DBZ.( If you haven't you should) Anyway, which did you find better? If some people ARE lying about hating Funi than thats their problem if they are too insecure about their own opinions. No one would bash them for their views, except for the ocassional spamer. I myself actually liked Funi but than after seeing the subs was given a distaste for the dubbing job.
As for new episodes, i don't know but my sister says they have shown some more of the Buu saga.

I don't hate the Funimation cuts of DBZ, but when you watch a subbed episode, you see how much Funimation have edited out or changed. Sometimes they have edited out 6-7 minutes of an episode and I've heard that some episodes are being missed out.

FUNi may hack up DBZ eps so they can air them on CN, but that's all I've got, so I'll live with it.

Also, the new eps are supposed to begin airing on Sept. 3 with Evil Lives On, but they may change the date, seeing as how they would be two thirds through the Frieza Saga at that point.

I know alot of memebers have watched the subbed episodes and movies of DBZ but what I want to know is how? The only way ive been able to watch the subbed episodes and movies is by downloading them. Now I know this is illegal but I know of no other way to see the episodes and movies. I would be very grateful however if someone could tell me of an online store in the uk that sells subbed episodes and movies . thx Oh and the subbed episodes are alot better than the american ones. Plus all the tacky humour that is added in, in the american episodes really dumbs the show down. The japanese originals are how the show was meant to be aired and since Ive seen some of them ive not been able to go back to the dubbed ones. Also the episode times of DBZ in England is awful they often dont make 20 minutes (even with the adverts) and I suspect this is due to cutting by FUNi.

I don't hate funimation at all. Some people don't like it because it is dubbed. They say it leaves ot the good stuff. Which I have no offense on it. But I don't hate it. They sell they movies, and episoes I want. I don't hate 'em. Then again it's just my opinion.

Yes, I'm so biased because I like to see something ORIGINAL, and not torn up and throw back at me.

I just have a problem with the complete changes they do. It's ok to change a few things here and there, but when you go overboard and change the whole dislogue, no.... WHy can't DBZ be like Gundam Wing or Outlaw Star where changes were at a minimum. But no, they had to be like Sailor Moon and Pokemon and change the whole f-ing story around. (although DBZ isn't NEAR as bad as those two)

I fail to see your point in this topic. What do you disagree about? That the FUNImation episodes are actually decent? Watch the original, and then come back and tell me the same. The whole thing is like this. What if you were a music star and you wrote lyrics and made a song in english. And then some other country decided to dub their language in your music, but they changed the whole lyrics. How would that make you feel? The whole meaning of your song is lost. All you have left is the music, and DBZ doesn't even have THAT!

DBZ is not the greatest series in the world, but I still like it. Yes, FUNimation did a lot of changes to the show and no, I don't like a lot of them. But doesn't FUNimation subtitle the episodes on DVD, too? This is a serious question, I'm not throwing any harsh opinions on you. Do they put unedited subtitles on the DVDs?

Maybe it's me, but at some point, I actually got over it! Honestly, they're almost through with the series. All the complaining isn't going to make them backtrack and re-dub the entire series all over again. Besides which, I think the edits are funnier than they are annoying. I mean, did any of you actually believe Goku, Yamcha, Tienshinhan, and Choa-zu really went to another dimension? Of course not! Now, laugh with me!

Yes, I know I just wrote "t-i-e-n-s-h-i-n-h-a-n." I was referring to the dub name of Tenshinhan. FUNimation actually left in his full name in one episode. Funny, huh?

Yes they put subbed Japanese episodes on the DVDs. But they are translated by Funimation staff and still subbed with slight changes int he dialogue. However, fan subs do this as well. Probably more so.

No, and I don't want them to re-dub the series. I have no problemw ith the fact they dub it or the fact people watch it. The problem I have is that people come to boards like this or make their own sites and base their nowledge totally off of the dubs they've seen. And then their info is totally incorrect and they spread this fake knowledge and everyone becomes corrupt with something that isn't true. Thats the problem I have with it. I mean, people still think DBAF is real. 90% of those people are dubbies. Because they don't realize the show has been over for years and that Toriyama has beeter things to do with his life. Like take care of his kids. Or do other manga/games.

Fan Subs have changed a lot of the dialogue as well, I saw an official subbed episode and then a fan sub, comparing them I noticed that the fun sub translations were simply wrong...

Transtic makes a good point here, try downloading a subbed episode or buy one, then watch the same episode dubbed and cut by Funimation, notice the differences, I promise you'll see them.
