Guest Matt
I have been on a real war movie thing latley. So, I was wondering, what are the best war movies in you opinion and why. If you can't post a why, don't post at all. :D Saving Private Ryan - A great mix of drama and action. It does an excellent job of realisticly telling a great story. Full Metal Jacket - It's by Stanley Kubrick, so already it gets a plus. It is the best vietnam film I have seen. Shows the troops thru boot camp(which most hardly do) to getting into the war. Glory - A great Civil War movie about the first african american regiment in the Union army. It is a heart wrenching story. I suggest it.

BlueGender
Recently I saw We Were Soldiers which is a very good movie. The movie was not one which made the Vietnamese seem evil like they have through out history they portrayed each side as equally bad in my oinion. You felt for those who died and felt as though you are a part of the movie as thoughyou are there.

But I just couldn't let it pass. Sorry. We Were Soldiers was about the beginning of the Vietnam War, the first major battle between American forces and the VCs. They were Vietnamese not Japanese. Gomen. :D
Fall
Pearl Harbour. Even though it was a blockbuster flop, it's one of the greatest war movies I've seen. The start of it; it starts like a love story. Pilots meeting up with ladies and all that stuff. But once it really gets into the movie, after about an hour, it gets real exciting. The photography is great, it gives you a real feel of what is happening....

And, BlueGender, it was teh veitnamese, not the japanese in We Were Soldiers. Which, in my opinoin, was a bad movie.
BlueGender
Sorry my mistake, I got confused between World War 2 and Vietnam. I thought We Were Soldiers was a good movie...but I expressed my opinion in my last post.
Omar Harris
I haven't seen a lot of the ones you guys are talking about but of the ones I did see I loved Glory best of all,. The acting in that was superb, even from Matthew Broderick, who has played in nothing but flops as of late.

Foredaddy
Im watching Saving Private as we speak or i guess in this case post. Its a pretty good movie. The only really good parts are in the beginning and at the end. Other than that its more like a 6 on a scale of ten. Vin Diesel or whatever his name is blows as an actor. Im glad he gets blown away first. Thats my only real gripe about that. Booyah
Lady Macaiodh
the best war movie ever is Full Metal Jacket, hands down. it blew my mind, & i generally hate war movies. saving private ryan was okay, but there was way too much violence.
Foredaddy
too much violence!? Thats how it was. I know. I was there...... the yell of "30 SECONDS!!" continues to reverberate through my mind every night as well as day. I was a private. I had served for two years stationed in Italy against the Facist bastards. I had been wounded previously. I had three bullets wounds to the leg. I was on the bench for a while. I back into action just 3 weeks before june 6th. The day I will never forget. Even with as much experience as I had you think I would be used to the battle scence, but nothing even compared. "10 SECONDS!" I vomited and Im not afraid to say it. more than once. Our Captain gave us one last instruction and told us "I'LL SEE YOU ON THE BEACH!". The doors dropped and we more instantly covered with shots fired. I climbed over the side. I went the under the water and sank like a friggin' rock. There was nothing I could do. I grabbed and reached for whatever I could. I felt something and I pulled and climbed until...AIR!! gasping and swimming I didnt realize until later that day that I was saved by another GI. I climbed on shore. Bonbs, guts and **** were all over the place. there was a constant shower of bullets and rocks all over. I saw my captain and ran to him ducking and crawling along the way. As I reached I grabbed his shoulder and turned him around to see that his face was gone one of his eyeballs was still dangling and flopped around. I threw up again. Right into the hole. I fell down and screamed. Everything seemed to slow down. And there was a loud explosion and I went black. The next thing I remeber was waking up in a med tent surrounded by moaning and screaming men. I looked to my left and saw a bandaged bloody mess. He wasnt screaming. He wasn't even breathing. I tryed to sit and realized I couldn't. I suddenly was more awake than I had ever been in my life. "I CAN'T FEEL MY LEGS!!! ARGHGH!!" and I passed out again. The rest is history. If you say that it was too violent well I say that it wasn't violent enough! IYA!

Tigervx
Well, this isnt really a movie, but a Band Of Brothers. It portrade all the heroic actions that the 101st airborne division. It was historicly correct to the dirt they used. It showed how they held the line at bastone. They jumped into D-day dispite the heavy triple A and flak everywhere. And how they never gave up, never surrendered, even with a 150% chance of death. They fought on. :bash:

Amphion
I think I can help with this. I love War movies. Not for the violence or anything like that. I am just of fan of the genre. I have composed a small video library of War movies and Documentaries and have seen quite a few. My all time favorite is Platoon. Enough said. Heres my War Movie Library: Good: BLACK HAWK DOWN (one of the all time best) SPR Platoon Enemy at the Gates Full Metal Jacket Sniper A Bridge too Far Patton U-571 Bad: We were Soldiers 13 days* Pearl Harbor Ugly: Thin Red Line The stars are ones that I am not sure if they are really classified as a "War Movie" This list is my opinion. But all are graded on Action, Realism, and Drama.
Foredaddy
Originally posted by Amphion Ugly: Thin Red Line
The thin red line was pretty good. It wasn't ugly, but it wasnt great. Now Pearl Habor was UGly with a capital UG. What a bore fest and then the battle wasnt even that good. Boo to Pearl Harbor.
NorykoAngelcry
Hmm. . favorites? We Were Soldiers Black Hawk Down Patriot Glory Full Metal Jackets Braveheart Saving Private Ryan Enemy at the Gates (thanks Amphion, almost forgot about this one) Starship Troopers (lol, love the storyline on that, even if it wasn't what anyone had in mind. I totally never caught it till I actually sat down and payed attention. . . just had to include it) Other notables for me would be: Pearl Harbor Midway (seen it so many times, I have to say something about it) Movies I would like to see, just because: Windtalkers ______? (the one with Bruce Willis in it? They are all POWs) The Thin Red Line (heard nothing but bad - still want to see it) Oh well, just my thoughts ^_^ Wether or not anyone agrees, I like these
