Chrono Cross

They say it's a sequel to the original Chrono Trigger, but in certain elements only, not the story...which was kind of a downer, unless something happened in the unreleased Radical Dreamers that changed a lot of things. I didn't really like having all those characters to choose from in the game, let alone acquire all of them. Otherwise, the game was great...the battle system where you build up your power level each time you successfully attack. Particularly, I love the music in the game, complimentary to the environments. There are multiple endings as in the first one...but not as many...

As I've said before, the battle system was fantastic in this title. Since most role-playing games feature battles as a prominant chunk in the gameplay formula, it's very important that this area of the game delivers. An element field in the upper left hand corner of the screen, that shifts momentum really adds another dimension to the enjoyment during particularly tense battle sequences. Plus, the sheer configuration of magic spells and abilities is fantastic.

Another impressive aspect was the generous number of well-developed playable characters. Although there aren't any famliar faces, most of the individuals you join forces with are fun to play as and feature cool situations when you run into their (sometimes vastly different) counterpart in the opposite dimension.

Perhaps most exciting of all, is that the game actually proves more interesting once completed. Similarly to Chrono Trigger, a plethora of new endings, items and bosses await once you finish once through.

So yeah, I'm a fan of the game. ^^;;

Excellent game, and an excellent story. This was one of the few Square made RPGs that I totally got into on the PSX. I played it near non-stop til I completed it. There is an overabundance of characters, but you won't get them all your first time through. There are a lot of choices you can make to get different characters on your team or go different directions story wise.

They nearly messed all this up with a final battle that BLAH BLAH I edited it ;).

My favorite thing about the game was all the references to Chrono Trigger though. Made it a lot more enjoyable. Oh! And the translation. God, after all the crap I've read in RPGs... this was wonderful. One of the best translations I've EVER come across. Definately worth the 20 bucks.

Hmm yes another topic on a great game that I asked about, he he.

(By the way Semjaza Azazel, please note that it said no spoilers at the very beginning.)

Anyway, I was quite surprised to see the amount of Commonwealth slang which was in it, but in a good way. The emotions that were implied were simply brilliant, well sometimes it moed me, heh, and the characters' reactions were very realistic. Also, graphics were very good in an attept at surroundings and animation which isfantastic. So to anyone who is a newbie to Square, get this game!;)

I am a die hard ChronoTrigger fan (it was my first and favorite RPG, with FF7 and FF10 taking a close 2nd). To me, ChronoCross was a bit disappointing. Mostly for the way CC twisted the CT storyline, probably. It depressed me.
*hugs Pip* Now THAT little guy makes for a fun chara!

The battle system threw me at first--quite odd. And I could never beat the final boss, blehh, because I couldn't *mumble mumble stops before spoiling spoilers*

Nobody mentioned the New Game Plus, that IS in there!!! ^_^

FMVs are GORGEOUS!!! And the music is still among my fabs to this day. There were too many charas for me, and then, just when I thought I had the PERFECT team, the game kinda took care of that, too...*stops again, growls, but holds back spoilers*

Well I'll always be a bigger CT fan but this game makes it onto my favorite console rpg's list. No it doesn't have a lot to do with CT but there's enough references to CT to keep it interesting. If you don't even think of CT while playing most people will find this to stand on its own as a good rpg because of the battle system and myriad of characters.

i love the Chrono Trigger series period. Linx is an awesome villain, just like my all-time favorite character, Magus. I love the element system, but its tough having all those elements and not a lot of slots to put them in. The battle system is great, with no turn-base stuff like in the pass. The one flaw I found is that the game just seems too easy to me. When I fought Magus in CT I couldn't beat him no matter how many times I attacked. I borrowed the game during Christmas break, didn't play it again until I got it for PSone, and finally kicked his butt. However, I was disappointed by how easily I beat Linx.

It actually does take place after CT, 10 years if I recall. And it has a lot of elements from CT like a few cameos, which I won't reveal, and other bits of story. It is a sequel in the true since, unlike the FF games, but like FF it is also almost completely different from CT where you don't have to play CT to get what is going on most of the time. It's a great game, although I wish there were more individual spells for characters like the CT gang had.

I love the CT series. Though, like most of you, I was a bit disappointed with CC. I think the fact that you only level up after beating a boss made the game easy, and I wanted more of a challenge. I LOVED the music to the game and always took the time to watch the opening scene before you play the game. The battle system took some time to get used to, but I thought it was pretty good. And even now, I still can't beat the final boss! I knew it was gonna be hard, but I didn't think it would start to frustrate me! Anyways, my fave character is a tie between Glenn and Guile. Those two are the coolest.
